League offices are closed all next week, right? Meaning no deals whatsoever, right?

I thought in 04 we dealt for Lee around Xmas. Maybe it was before Xmas week.

I believe we traded Doug Glanville for Mickey Morandini on like Christmas Eve.

So basically stocking stuffers.

Keith law is reporting Dave Sappelt and Ronald Torreyes along with Wood. Sorry, can't get the link to Twitter on my phone.

FRIDAY: The Cubs will received Wood, Dave Sappelt, and Ronald Torreyes from the Reds for Marshall, reports ESPN's Keith Law (on Twitter). The trade will be announced later today.

Sappelt, a 24-year-old right-hander, hit .243/.289/.318 in 118 plate appearances for Cincinnati last year, his big league debut. He produced a .313/.377/.458 batting line in 336 plate appearances for their Triple-A affiliate in 2011. Torreyes, a 19-year-old infielder, hit .356/.398/.457 in 306 plate appearances at the Low Class-A level this past season. Baseball America ranked Sappelt and Torreyes as the Reds' 20th and 22nd best prospects, respectively, in last year's Prospect Handbook.

Hmmm more outfielders.

It's amazing that Morandini put up 3.6 WAR that year. His next highest season was 1.8 in 1995. He also followed up that 3.6WAR season with 3 straight negative WAR seasons.

Sappelt is a 24 year old outfielder in AAA who debuted last season. Not sure why we need him though. Torreyes seems very intriguing. A middle infielder who is ust 19 and has a .935 OPS over two seasons in the minors.

Sappelt actually makes the Reed Johnson signing more confusing and pointless. I'd rather just give Sappelt a chance as the 4th/5th OF this season than waste it on Reed.

Yeah, agreed. Unless we're flipping him somewhere else as part of another deal.

So Sappelt is essential Tony Campana, but a year younger and with more power. Ronald Torreyes is a 2b. He looks like he's got a good eye and a solid glove, overall it looks like a solid return for Marshall.

Holy [expletive]. Torreyes is damn near a top 100 guy. Go over to that Reds board now, if you want a gauge on how they feel about this deal now. Torreyes is like Jose Altuve. And Sappelt is a very solid guy too. Absolute steal now, as far as the deal goes. Didn't think there was a chance of getting Torreyes. He's probably going to slot in after Brett, Baez, and Szczur. Either right ahead or right behind McNutt on our prospect lists.

And here we go. Thanks, Redszone.com

Dave Sappelt and Ronald Torreyes are the other two players according to Mo Egger retweet from Keith Law. Serious overpay. Not Happy

Very very surprised that Sappelt and Torreyes are being moved! Wow!

Board explosion in 1-2-3. Awful overpay is my initial reaction. Hopefully this is not accurate.

Okay, NOW I don't like the deal. At ALL. Sappelt & Torreyes?!?!?! Good lord. And I was a supporter of the trade earlier. Not now. Wow. We got fleeced.

Speechless

Shocking if those two guys are included.

Very difficult to believe. Really no reason to explain why the Reds should give up that much for any reliever for 1 year. I really went on the assumption that Wood was THE peice. All 3 of those guys have some value.

I'm currently hoping for failed physicals at this point.

Someone posted earlier in the thread that Toreyes has one of the best hit tools in the minors, so I'll happily take it, although we do already have 2 young high ceiling MI in Amaya and Hernandez. Sappelt, who had a brief stint in the big leagues last year to the turn of .243/.607 is just a body for the Iowa roster considering that our system is completely devoid of corner outfielders. Hey, a potential mid rotation starter and a high ceiling 19 year old for 1 year of a set up man. I'll take it.

He's more than just AAA filler.

Back home, he is compared to Dustin Pedroia, the similar-in-size Boston Red Sox All-Star second baseman — and nobody laughs. In fact, scouts do not think Torreyes’s stature will hinder his rise to the major leagues and, incredibly, nobody with a trained eye seems to put it past him to make a name for himself at the highest level.

I would definitely take that. As much as I hated to see Marshall go, I love this trade in our favor.
