Using the info as one data point in the decision is clearly what Theo does and what many people here are excited to have. Your posts suggested something stronger than that, again, based in part on your reputation. I don't much care how you feel about your reputation either. But it's there so it's going to color the way people read your posts.

My post didn't suggest something stronger than that. The only thing implied by my post is that the sabermetrics (which come out of -- you guessed it -- a computer model) indicate Ramirez is not going to be worth his next contract. Further, Theo appears to be basing his decision not to retain Ramirez primarily on that analysis.

If you inferred anything beyond that, you were mistaken. Now you're trying to justify your error by attacking me over my reputation. Regardless, your hostile tone is unwarranted and certainly unhelpful. My suggestion is that you apologize, so we can all move on.

I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I guess this is the default what to do about third base thread, so I'll put this here:

A name that pops up regarding the Rockies' third base situation is Chase Headley of the Padres. The Rockies tried to acquire him last summer but the Padres weren't interested in moving him. San Diego remains uninterested in dealing the 27-year-old.

They may not remain uninterested if a good offer comes along, but this is disappointing (though unsurprising) news.

This is what I was arguing earlier. SD has no reason whatsoever to trade Headley. I'm quite certain that Stewart is going to be much cheaper to acquire and may even be non-tendered.

Is that report based on what Byrnes intends to do, or is that based on the line of thinking that Hoyer had when he was there a month ago?

If Hoyer wouldn't trade him, then Hoyer obviously values him and might try to pry him away, yeah?

That's what I was wondering. Hoyer stated that Headley should be one of the guys the Padres build around for the future, but Hoyer is now in Chicago. While not likely, it's possible Byrnes isn't as sold on Headley. The article didn't indicate whether what I bolded was Byrnes or Hoyer's thinking, though.

@ESPNChiCubs: Aramis Ramirez agent: we will not talk to the cubs . That ship has sailed

Also, judging from tweets from Bruce Miles, Ramirez's agent(Paul Kinzer) is throwing a hissy fit over some comments that Brenly made about Ramirez at some point.

More importantly, Kinzer is Castro's agent, and he said Castro will be in Chicago on Friday to meet with Theo. Not sure if that means a longer term deal is a possibility or if it's a meet and greet sort of thing. Whoops, looks like Bruce read my mind.

@Bruce Miles2112 Agent Kinzer says he will talk about "Geo and Marmol and Castro" with Theo on Friday. #Cubs

This is where "best interests of the team" conflicts with my irrational fan side. It's not in the best interest of the Cubs to bring back Aramis, but it makes me sad that we won't.

i sure hope brenly and the rest of the meatheads enjoy watching aramis' replacement really hustle out groundballs next season while he's hitting .230. it's amazing to me how some people can hold jobs in baseball for decades and decades.

Already filled by Cory Provus, actually.

The prerequisite for holding a job in baseball for decades is to already have a job in baseball for a decade.

While this will probably never get back to Aramis unless he reads NSB, I want to thank him for a lot of great memories. The grand slam off Willis in game 4 of the 2003 NLCS, the walk-off homer against the White Sox at Wrigley, the grand slam off Chad Durbin to send Wrigley into a frenzy in 2008 and most of all, for being our best 3B of my lifetime as a Cubs fan.

Best of luck to you, Aramis (except against us). You'll be missed.

Oh, A-Rams agent rips Brenly.

"They don't give Silver Slugger awards to Punch and Judy hitters," Paul Kinzer said, reacting to Bob Brenly's conclusion that the Cubs would be better off without Aramis Ramirez.

"For a broadcaster to say that was very low class," he said. "We didn't come out and say that, but it bothered Aramis, it bothered me. If he had something to say, he could have just said it to his face. You can talk to Jim Hendry, Lou Piniella, Dusty Baker … none of those guys had a problem with Aramis. They never said he wasn't clutch."

I love Aramis and will miss him quite a bit, but I don't see the upside to what his agent is doing in ripping Brenly. If he had to comment I would simply say, "Aramis' record speaks for itself. He's been as productive as any 3B in the NL over the last 10 years."

The national perception of Ramirez is based upon the ignorant rants of local media. He's choosing to combat that perception.
