Gvilles hate for Dempster is far more bizarre and unwarranted.

At the time it was. Dempster has gotten progressively worse the last three years, a trend that looks well on its way to continuing this year. Still a solid pitcher, but not even close to being a #1 like the management would probably claim.

That's an...interesting way of putting it.

Some people don't like xFIP, but here are his previous four years' xFIP:

2008: 3.69

2009: 3.76

2010: 3.74

2011: 3.43

His peripherals have been kind of all over the place since 2008, some have gotten worse for a year or two and then gotten better and some have improved and then dropped off. His ERA has consistently gotten worse each year since 2008, but ERA isn't one of the better tools for measuring a pitcher's success. His WAR has dropped consistently since 2008 as well, however.

How about Chris Hahn from the Sox? He's supposedly the go-to guy stat guy behind Williams, and I'm sure he's had enough of Ozzieball to last a lifetime. That whole FO is probably gonna be dynamited in October anyhow.

If not him, let's at least start bouncing around names. Ricketts is sensitive to fan pressure; maybe if we can come to a consensus on a replacement BCB will pick it up and we can trumpet our collective wisdom.

If that's the case, why not just Kenny Williams?

Because Kenny Williams is a crappy GM who lucked into a WS.

He wouldn't be my first choice, but I'd hardly call him crappy. He's kept the White Sox competitive pretty much every year, and he's good at identifying under-utilized players from other organizations.

I can't imagine what train of thought leads someone to "Ken Williams replaces Jim Hendry". They have pretty much the same problems, except Williams hasn't ever had much of a farm system and is a blowhard to boot.

Man, talk about lowered expectations.

Crappy GM? Wow, get a clue.

Awesome first post.

Never question a poster named Captain Serious. It can only end badly for you.

Kenny Williams has pretty much gone the Hendry rout and thrown out big money teams in a weak, small market laden division. Hes made a few good moves in picking up Carlos Quentin and signing Alexei Ramirez, and did a good job selling high on Freddy Garcia for Gavin Floyd, but hes made just as many bad moves, and has pretty much gone in record as saying that all prospects are essentially currency. When you have that expensive of a team in the worst division in baseball, you should be in the playoffs every year, and once the Indians and Royals kids grow up, we'll see how good Kenny Williams and his aging, expensive team are doing. I can answer that right now: about as good as Jim Hendry and his aging, expensive team.

It would be entirely different if his name were Captain Mostly Kidding.

Some potential candidates long have been working behind the scenes to try to grab Hendry's office. The Cubs easily could wind up with one of them or another happy-to-be-there GM with Kenney involved in the process. But could they get around his negative image to raid the Red Sox's talent pool for Allard Baird or Ben Cherington or find a way to finesse Ned Colletti away from the Dodgers?

Please let this not happen.

Yeah, that would actually be a big step down.

Who is Allard Baird? Raiding the Red Sox seems like a very solid idea, unless this guy has bad history elsewhere that I can't remember......

I think this year could be the end of Hendry, mainly because the season looks to be more of a trainwreck than what it should have been. I expected 75ish wins and we'll probably be lucky to get 65.

I could have seen a situation where Hendry went to Ricketts immediately after buying the team and saying"Hey, we've operated one way, because of the Trib, but I really want to operate this way instead." He could have laid out a rebuild plan where you're building thru the system(saving Ricketts money, along the way) and convincing him to keep him around thru all of this. But, I think public pressure will most likely end Hendry's tenure here by the end of the season, unless something crazy happens.
