I believed every year that he was coming back after training camp. But now I don't know. He's been terrible. He's much more banged up than he has been in past years. He's leaving games left and right. I think it's for real this time. I can't imagine why a team would want him anymore.

I agree. I think mentally he's done right now more than he ever has been. The lockout could change things though and really you just have to look at this list of free agents. There are never really any good free agent QB's because if you're worth anything you're re-signed but this is ugly.

Troy Smith, 49ers

Trent Edwards, TBA

JT O'Sullivan, CIN

Seneca Wallace, CLE

Shaun Hill, DET

Brodie Croyle, KC

Chad Pennington, MIA

Tyler Thigpen, MIA

Tarvaris Jackson, MIN

Jim Sorgi, NYG

Kellen Clemens, NYJ

Bruce Gradkowski, OAK

Michael Vick, PHI

Dennis Dixon, PIT

Billy Volek, SD

Kerry Collins, TEN

Chris Simms, TEN

Rex Grossman, WAS

Say the Vikings get lucky and get a Newton or Mallett but because of the lack of offseason activity, they know that they will not be ready for 2011. It's pretty tempting to roll the dice that you can recapture half of the magic he had last year instead of settling for one of those hacks.

I think it's much more tempting to remember how much he sucked at 41 and that he will now be 42. Also, that list does not include cap casualties, and given the success of younger QBs like Bradford and Freeman copy cats are going to want to roll the dice on young guns rather than pay Favre the type of money he will require to lure himself out of retirement. If you do draft a first round QB, you aren't also going to pay Favre after giving the signing bonus to the kid.

He also sucked at age 36 and 37 and people thought he was done, only to come back and have probably 2 of his top 5 seasons at ages 38 and 40.

Brett Favre and his career go far beyond any predictable patterns.

But it made perfect sense for him to come back after those years. He wasn't yet 40, he was healthy enough to play every game. And his services were in high demand. There were actually bidding wars and then a team bidding against themselves to keep him playing. He got a ton of cash to do it. They will be back to a salary cap next year and who the hell is going to pay Favre what it will take to bring him back in that scenario?

So what's everyone's order of QBs you want to face on Monday, based strictly on the Bears best chance of winning?

Personally I'd go...

1. Webb

2. FA QB (I'm hearing Ramsey and Bouman, and that if signed they could start)

3. Favre

4. Jackson

Favre and Jackson could go either way for me. Favre is not close to healthy, but I kind of want to avoid facing him for other reasons (last home game as a Viking, last MNF game, etc.).

Thankfully none of those four choices are very good ones.

I don't know if we can for sure say TCF Stadium is going to host this game.

Again, Vikings are trying to have game at TCF Bank Stadium but have yet to announce it as the site. Many logistical hurdles yet to clear.

The are asking volunteers to come and shovel the snow out of the stadium for free. They said they would need volunteer shovelers between now and Sunday to have the stadium ready.

Here is an article about some of the hurdles needed go get past for the game to take place:

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/21124/questions-remain-on-tcf-readiness

Note: The article says the Vikings would pay $10 an hour for shoveler's but that has since been refuted by Kevin Seifert, who says they would be unpaid volunteers.

Saw pictures of TCF in it's current state this morning on ESPN. Needless to say they are going to have to work non-stop between now and the weekend to get it ready. I assume Ford Field and Edward Jones would be plans C and D, respectively.

They also say Irsay volunteered Lucas Oil Stadium for the game. That would be a nice 3 hour drive for Bears fans.

Yes please, but there's no way that happens. 85-90% of the attendence would be Bears fans due to the large contingency that were in Indy before the Colts arrived. Needless to say there would be tons of Bears fans in Detroit or St. Louis as well.

After begrudgingly bumping the Bears up to number 8 two weeks ago because of the victory over Philly, Don Banks couldn't wait to push them back down to 11 this week on the heals of the Patriots game. Once again they are the lowest ranked team at their record. Philly, meanwhile, jumped from 9 to 6. It's tiresome to worry about this stuff, but Don Banks has been the biggest idiot on this subject all year. He's the guy who had the Jets #1 before training camp, then bumped them to 5 before any games were played. Chicago was 26 pre camp and 29 going into the season.

John Clayton just said there's a 50-50 chance the game Monday is played at Lucas Oil stadium.

Wow this is just unreal, and Clayton is a guy I pretty much take to the bank. If he says there's a chance, there probably is.

It would probably seal Favre not playing as well. I could see him wanting to give the home crowd one last hurrah, but I doubt he'll push his shoulder for what would virtually be a road game.

I actually don't put a lot of stock into Clayton's comments about 50-50. He's just making that part up, and he does that sort of thing a lot. His schtick has always been to provide as many "gee whiz" headlines as possible instead of actually going in depth on any stories. That said, why is Indy more of a possibility than Detroit this time?

If they do the same thing they did for the Ford Field game, I'm taking Monday off and driving to Indy Monday morning before the sun comes up and getting some tickets.

One way or another they need to decide where the game is being played almost immediately so both teams know what to prepare for and so the Bears can make the right travel plans. Waiting until the weekend to see if TCF can be prepared is not sufficient time.

Any doubt whatsoever needs to be resolved in the Bears' favor since the Vikings have responsibility for their field. They must bear (pun not intended) the entire inconvenience of their field being unplayable.

I don't know, maybe the Vikings would prefer a game slightly closer to Minneapolis (if it even is). I know Lucas Oil was in the running for last week's game before it went to Ford Field. Keep in mind that they are probably putting on this game and losing money on it, or at best making a small profit. All the staff that has to come to the game on short notice, and everything else that goes into putting on an NFL game, I'd think Ford Field officials would rather it go to someone else this time.

That's just my guess anyways, I don't really know for sure why but I know Irsay has been vocal about allowing them to play at Lucas Oil Stadium.

I'm not so sure what you mean by the second sentence but yes, there is no justication for this decision not already being set in stone.

Maybe they should just forefit the game. That would be the break to end all breaks.

They could use the White Sox forfeiting a game when (old) Comiskey Park was unplayable following Disco Demolition Night as precedence to argue for a forfeit due to an unplayable field. :D

OK, back to reality.

The only reason I can think of as to why Indy instead of Detroit is that Detroit is on the road this week while Indy plays at home. So, the stadium is already set for football this week, while other events may have been scheduled at Ford Field this week.

The second sentence was basically an awkward way of saying that it isn't fair to keep the Bears in limbo because of the Vikings' stadium problems.
