Some would-be shovelers are giving up on being part of the snow-clearing crew at the University of Minnesota stadium that may be the site of Monday night's Bears-Vikings game.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports hundreds of people showed up as early as 6 a.m. Thursday to help clear snow at TCF Bank Stadium. Shovelers are being paid for the work. But some recruits turned away when the line was slow to move.

Meanwhile, the Star Tribune reported that the Bears might file a protest with the NFL about the prospect of having to play on a frozen field.

Tavaris Jackson put on IR.

And with that the Tarvaris Jackson era has come to an unceremonious end. We're going to enter the offseason with Joe Webb as the only QB on the roster.

They already signed Patrick Ramsey. And there's some thought he might start.

Whether or not he does, it's unlikely he will enter the offseason as a Viking.

Brad Biggs made it sounds this morning as though there is serious doubt that the game will be at TCF. Apparently, there's no heating coils under the field like there is in most NFL stadiums, so once they get the snow clear, there's a layer of ice underneath. Field condition is a major concern.

The Vikings really want to have it in Minny because of they're 50 year celebration or whatever, but he suspects the NFL will make a final announcement today on where the game will be held. He said that Atlanta is a possibility for a couple reasons. One, it doesn't give the Bears a "home field" advantage like Det, STL or Indy could. And two, the Monday night game next week is in Atlanta, so ESPN could just leave their equipment there over the Christmas week.

I've been to Atlanta a few teams and it was loaded with transplanted Chicagoans.

Yeah...Chicago fans are gonna be there whereever they end up. But I understand the thought process.

They can play the game at Jerryworld!

Ha...I'm in the consolation bracket...just missed the playoffs, but I just went and snagged Webb, just in case. That'd be amusing.

NFL going full bore with TCF. If this game ends up being moved they have handled this so freaking poorly.

Yeah, just read that. It's so irritating because it's such an important game for the Bears.

The only thing I can add is an interview this morning where Jaworski said he & the 300-ish MNF staff were all flying to Minny with the full understanding that this game is going to be played at TCF.

I'm not sure why they don't just roll some giant heaters out onto the field to melt the snow and make the water flow into their drainage system. That would solve the problem of the turf being frozen (for now anyway) as well.

This really could turn into a comedy of errors and make the people in charge of the decision look really, really dumb.

I'm just going to assume this will all work out one way or another.

The NFL are a group of big boys, being paid good money, to do a job.

Figure it out. That game Monday night? It needs to be an NFL game played at a decently-prepped venue. The goal is pretty clear.

I think most likely that would turn the field into a swamp that would then freeze and be worse than Soldier Field and Heinz Field turf.

They gonna keep the heaters on until Monday? It's not getting above freezing between now and game time, and it could be snowing during the game.

Not if you keep the heaters on the field until after the game. My god man, do I have to think of everything?

Hester could do that "cooling off his feet" thing and it would be for real.

What a clusterpuck

The Minnesota Vikings are turning Monday night's game at TCF Bank Stadium into a "first-come, first-served event" for ticket holders, but alcohol will not be served, the team announced today.

I wonder how many refund demands they've received today

Wow I cant imagine how unruly the group that bought tickets to the game, bundled up to survive the temps, came down to the game, and stood in line for a long time is going to be when they get turned away at the door.

It says they expect it to be well attended, but if you could get your money back to an end of season game in a lost season lots of people have to consider it.
