Agree, Bears gotta do what they do well. And what they do well is play aggressively and mix things up. Tampa-2 is fine, but it's not really aggressive at times. They can't let the Patriots catch the ball and then go tackle them. If so, you'll get the SB vs. the Colts all over again. The Bears DBs actually have a size advantage. I'd like to see them disrupt NEs timing as much as they can.

you're right in that they can't play the safeties deep, absolutely cannot. brady will murder the soft spots on either sideline. i'm not afraid of being beaten deep like i was with the eagles, the new england receivers are small and slow and great route runners, but great route running can be minimalized in the tampa-2 zone coverage. you have to shrink the zone and ballhawk the hell out those weak spots, you have to bait them and hope you can take the ball away a few times.

as far as the offense, martz is going to have to come out in max protect and try to get jay into a 7-step drop so he can stretch and spread the field and match our speed guys up against their inferior defensive backfield, try to create one-on-one matchups. apart from that, we shouldn't get too cute with how we prepare for the game. just try to do what we've been doing and if they beat us, they beat us.

make this game about players and individual matchups rather than allowing their scheming and synergy to dictate the game.

i think we play well against the 3-4, so we got that going for us.

What they can't do is blitz. Brady will slice them up if they keep wasting defenders on anything but the fewest amount of blitzes necessary.

Suh was fined $15k by the NFL for his hit on Cutler.

Here's an article talking about possible snow for Sunday, yet they completely ignored the part of the forecast that has temperatures plummeting as the day goes on thanks to 40+ mph arctic winds out of the north, producing sub-zero wind chills.

Yeah...the winds are going to be interesting.

IF Prisco's predictions for this weeks games are true, it would be a disasterous weekend.

Bears lose to Pats 28-21

Packers beat Lions 33-20

Giants beat Vikings 27-23

Bucs over Redskins 26-17

Saints over Rams 27-21

Eagles over Cowboys 30-28

The sad thing is, that's what would happen if all the favorites beat the underdogs. Hopefully it doesn't goto like that, as the race would really bunch up on the Bears.

or says espn, so it must be true

It's pretty much the storyline that most are going with. The Tribune called the penalty the turning point of the game. Humor sites like deadspin and KSK are casually referring to the refs screwing over the Lions again.

I think the penalty was pretty much a must call as it happened in real time. If you have the benefit of replay you can decide not to. But you can't do what he did and expect not to get called.

Maybe it's because some of these same writers keep picking the Lions to surprise year after year and it never happens

Suh is the guy who is getting a bad reputation quickly. After the Delhomme play, I wouldn't doubt that the refs are watching him closely and will throw a flag before giving him the benefit of the doubt. It goes for James Harrison too, although Harrison is obviously a little dirtier.

Things look a bit more favorable the following week though. Giants and Eagles play each other, the Packers go to New England, and the Saints go to Baltimore. Of course the Bears have what is far from an easy game in the Metrodome. I would like our chances of winning a lot more if it wasn't MNF. See: 2009 Week 16.

it'd be really nice if the vikings could do us a favor and beat the giants (they wont) and then have the giants turn right around the week after and beat the packers (this also wont happen)

i'm extraordinarily nervous about a playoff spot for a team thats 9-3 and sitting with the 2 seed right now, but its not unwarranted. things could get very dicey even if we finish with an 11-5 record.

the mentioning of Prisco's picks had me looking up his accuracy: he's 46% hahah, literally worse than flipping a coin. (though i dunno if he picks against the spread or not)

I think people (sportswriters) are just in disbelief in general over the Bears. Everyone wants to make Cutler to be the cry-baby (the whole McDaniels/Jeff George bit), the Bears use retreads for coaches, and the like.

I laugh at the whole "McDaniels is the next Belichek" spiel I read lately. Yea, Denver just wasn't ready for change. ok. The fact of the matter is Belichek failed mightily in Cleveland and persevered though it, as the franchise was going through extremely turbulent waters. Meanwhile, McDaniels has pissing all over his players and eventually sent the ones he truly needed packing. Matt Cassell has done fine, but for cripes sake TIM TEBOW?

I guess McDaniels could rebound, but I dont know.

McDaniels will do just fine. He actually did a decent job with the offense, which is what he does. He royally screwed up with personnel, defense, and pissing some people off. If he learns from his mistakes and controls the arrogance, he'll do OK. He's still very young.

I still don't get why Cutler gets most of the blame for his falling out in Denver. A new hotshot offensive coach showed up and the first order of business was to try and replace the franchise QB who had already been to a pro bowl. What QB would not be upset with that? What QB would trust a guy like that?`

so with the win on Monday the NE Pats are god's gift to the NFL. I love the Browns, but come on they aren't the cream of the NFL and they beat the Pats like a narc at a bikers rally. What did they do to stomp this fiercesome Pats team?

Bears sign guard Herman Johnson to the 53-man from the Arizona practice squad and waive DE Barry Turner.

Johnson is 6'7" 360 lbs.

Nicknamed “The House,” Johnson weighed 15 pounds and 14 ounces at birth, making him the largest baby ever born in the state of Louisiana.

Geez.

I hope for the mom's sake she had a c-section. And for the dad's sake too!

The Browns defense has been solid all year, and this was when McCoy was starting and had them playing very well. I'm also sure the Pats were caught sleeping too.
