I think we get housed. Patriots 38-21. I think Brady is going to pick the defense apart with the underneath stuff and they won't be able to get off the field on 3rd down. I really hope I'm wrong.

That would be, far and away, the most points given up by the Bears all season. Most up until now is 26 to Philly in a win.

New England is also the highest scoring offense they've faced and Chicago matches up better with what Philly tries to do than what New England does.

I was just about to post that NE has only scored fewer than 26 twice. Something definitely has to give.

Or they could score 26.

Wow....FO has the Pats offense as number 1 in the league by a significant margin. The 2nd place team (Houston) has a DVOA of 29.6%. The Pats DVOA is 48.2%. The Bears BTW, remain 30th at -13.8%.

Makes sense why the Patriots are #1 overall despite having the #26th defense.

All true, but FO makes this point on ESPN today...

Despite its 9-3 record, Chicago ranks just 18th overall in the Football Outsiders DVOA ratings. However, that rating is influenced heavily by the two games played without Jay Cutler under center. Remove those two weeks, and the Bears' ranking would go from 30th to 21st on offense, and from 18th to ninth overall. Add in home-field advantage, and our numbers say the Bears can be reasonably competitive against the hottest team in the league. Even without considering the Todd Collins disaster, the Bears' passing game has improved significantly in recent weeks. Remove Weeks 4 and 5, and the Cutler-led Bears still rank 24th in pass DVOA through their Week 8 bye. Measure teams from Week 9 onward, and the Bears rank sixth. The young Patriots pass defense also has improved in recent weeks, but to nowhere near the same extent: In the past four weeks, it has gone from awful to average.

i think the bears defense is a good matchup for the new england offense. if they're going to get a bunch of yards, might as well make them run a ton of plays and risk a bunch of turnovers to do it.

But that is exactly how New England operates their offense. The Bears won't be "making them" do anything.

well, then, they'll play right into our hands.

Looks like, among experts, almost everyone is taking the Pats, except Simmons, who thinks the combination of short week, talking up the Pats, poor field conditions, bad matchup, and potential letdown week are enough to swing to the Bears.

good. i don't feel comfortable going into a week expecting to win, it's never good.

This. The three games I've felt the most anxiety going into were the Carolina game, Buffalo game, and the Detroit game last weekend. What do all those games have in common? They're all games against vastly inferior opponents in which losing could potentially derail the rest of the season. The Washington and Seattle games were like this to a lesser extent, but since those teams are more mediocre than they are bad, I guess it didn't have the same feeling of potential disaster.

I won't have that hard of a time losing to the Pats on Sunday as long as we don't give the game away or anything.

It would be completely awesome if we could win on Sunday, and while it would definitely hurt our playoff chances if we lose, it wouldn't be devistating. That takes a bit of the pressure off.

I am without any feeling regarding this game. I can't make myself hopeful, but I can't make myself feel like we'll be completely demolished. Especially with the weather situation rolling in, I have absolutely no idea what to expect.

Other than that the Pats wont score 38 points. I really don't see that happening, not necessarily because of our defense (they very easily could be torn apart) but I doubt the conditions and the very nature of their game (long drives that eat up clock that would likely not be broken for big plays against us) would allow them to score so many points. There just isn't enough time in the game.

Stat of the day:

Tommie Harris has a grand total of 9 tackles all year

Yeah he hasn't been good. However, his tipping of Vick's pass that led to an interception and a 14-point swing might have won us that Eagles game. So I'm willing to let him by for now. He's not a starter anymore anyway.

I want as much wind as possible. Tip the scales to the running game. Though we may not be the best running team in the league, I have full confidence in our defense to stop their running attack.

But the Pats throw short passes so I don't know what the wind would really do to that part of their game.

Thankfully the Bears also throw mostly short passes, so the wind shouldn't be too much of a factor.

This defense is due for some takeaways and although the Pats are very good at protecting the ball, crazy things can happen with a snowy, wet, rock hard football.

If anyone can figure out how to make the ball slip out of their hands, while making it stick to ours, please contact Halas Hall immediately.
