I pretty much agree with your post jersey but I wanted to point out that the Jets did beat the Pats earlier this year.

They also lost to them, which technically means they lost to every good team they played this year. ;)

They have that one good win, and a decent one against Miami. Chicago has 2 plus Miami. I just never got the idea that the Jets were the top team in the league, not with that QB and offense. Certainly a quality team that can win lots of games. But they aren't great. New England has beaten more good teams, and decent teams. Same with Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Green Bay and Atlanta.

Found ESPNs new power rankings. Not much to discuss. Bears get jumped by GB and fall to 8th, which is reasonable given the results of the games last weekend. Jets drop from 3 to 6. I would think losing by 42 points would give you a larger drop but nope.

Essentially Jets get no negative points for needing back to back OT and desperation pass wins, or getting spanked.

I certainly wasn't expecting last night's outcome, but the Jets offense being crap is not a surprise. This is a team that whose hype is based on lucking into the playoffs thanks to facing a team taking a self imposed bye, then advancing in the playoffs because opposing FG kickers couldn't kick. They've lost to every good team they faced this year. Needed OT and desperation passes to beat three straight mediocre opponents and has generally looked like garbage on numerous occasions. Their QB is barely a 50% passer and their best receiver can't catch the ball. That is a team the Bears should beat at home later this season. But I still think Chicago can beat the Patriots, and I'd rather not make that Jets game a must win.

The passing game is going to give the Bears trouble. I just hope they limit the big plays and tackle, because the Jets sure as hell didn't even try. When they blitz, they have to be more effective, preferrably coming off the edge rather than bunching up in the middle and running right into the chest of blockers. Despite holding the Jets to 3 points, that defense can get soft.

I only saw replays, but what I did see were a whole lotta missed tackles. It was epidemic on the Jets D, actually.

When you talk about Mark Sanchez, you talk about a winner. All this guy has done for the past two seasons is win. Is he flashy? No. But when you need a big play, you expect Sanchez to make that play.

Agreed. Winners just win. It's just like in baseball. You would obviously much prefer a pitcher that's 20-10 with a 5.67 ERA over a pitcher who is 6-19 with a 1.21 ERA because the first pitcher makes the pitches needed to get wins games for his team.

Exactly. A guy who wins 20 games is consistently consistent.

Bears ranked 3rd on the latest CBS power rankings.

I'm pretty sure Prisco was drunk when he put those together. Tennessee up 2 this week after losing their 5th straight and looking awful, and Minnesota down 5 after their most dominating performance of the year.

So you put GB above the Falcons? The Falcons just beat them a week and a half ago.

At home, by 3. Basically a toss-up game, and Green Bay looked better than Atlanta last week.

Yeah, it's not crazy at all to rank GB higher. They maybe should have won that game, and I think they are better on a neutral field.

Well I would hope so...GB played a 4-8 team, while Atlanta had to contend with a team that is trying to get a wild card spot in the playoffs. I don't think that's comparing apples to apples.

It's never comparing apples to apples. That is why it's a subjective process. I think Green Bay is better on a neutral field.

EDIT: As far as real justification: the Packers have just 3 wins by 7 or fewer points, and have not lost a game by more than 3. The Falcons have just 3 wins by more than 7 points (and 2 against the NFC West...that hardly counts), and lost to Philly by 14.

All four of our losses have come on the opponent's final play of the game.

So you guys know how to pull defeats from the jaws of victory, eh? :)

Seriously though, losing close still counts as a loss. I don't think you get bonus points for losing close. "Finishing" a game is an important part of being a good team, imo. Most games in the NFL are close. (Last nights example notwithstanding.)

I'm not saying GB is a bad team by any stretch of the imagination...in fact I think that last game of the year is gonna be a doozy for the division title...but personally, right now, I'd put the Falcons above the Pack.

It doesn't count in the standings but in rankings it absolutely should. Winning big is a sign of a good team, and they do it often. Losing by small margins on the few times you do lose is meaningful, just like getting blown out is bad.
