Sorry to inturrupt.

I like that the Pats blew out the Jets tonight. For one it exposed the Jets a little bit. For another, people are going to jump on the Pats bandwagon this weekend. As we discussed there is a definite opportunity for a letdown on a short week for the Pats. Also, I expect basically every person in the media to pick the Pats this weekend. The Bears tend to play better when they think they are being disrespected.

The Pats are a damn good team, but there are a lot of factors that are going in the Bears favor so far. Maybe we'll get a snow storm on Sunday. Who would that benefit more?

Considering the Pats destroyed the Titans 59-0 last year in the midst of a blizzard, I'm going to go with them. Oh and they also won the tuck rule game in heavy snow, but that was awhile ago.

When's the last time the Bears played in a snowstorm? It was snowing toward the end of the NFCCG against New Orleans, but that was hardly a storm.

since we aren't really a cold weather team, i hope not. i remember the steelers pushing us around like we were on sleds in 2005, though.

welp that certainly was some sort of game tonight. looks like new england is def the real deal again, so we got our hands full.

good news is that we basically only need to win one of these match ups vs. the afc teams in the last few weeks, and the jets are looking much more vulnerable. would be nice if the patriots showed more kinks in their armor, oh well. gonna definitely have to put up some points to keep up with them, our defense or not. they will move the ball.

another nice thing, at least to some degree (it could be heartbreaking in another) is that the last week is almost certainly going to mean a playoff spot for someone and its very possible it could lead to a rematch in the first round of the playoffs too. would hate to see us battle for our playoff lives up in lambeau vs. what i'm pretty sure is a superior team, but hey, at least every game would mean something this season.

i'd have to drink a lot though if it came to that.

Snow won't help us. The Pats are fine with it.

The Pats do well with a short range passing attack, which happens to be something we struggle to stop.

They exposed the Jets last night, I think they'll expose us next week.

I'm happy with what our Bears have accomplished so far, but hold no illusions that this team is a cream-of-the-crop powerhouse.

Maybe we can make it a close game by playing the bend-but-don't-break game. But I definitely think this is a loss, and I'm OK with that.

Both the upcoming Jets and Vikings games are winnable for us, and that should be good enough.

Before last night's game:

I think rooting for the Jets is a much better option as far as the Bears are concerned.

After the game:

I like that the Pats blew out the Jets tonight.

Makes sense.

We are going to get killed on Sunday. But, that's okay. They need to be mad for the last 3 games.

I can't chalk this up as a loss just yet. Again we have a lot going for us: home game, short week for them, emotional Monday night win. Pats are a great team but according to the rankings so are the Packers and Eagles and wr found a way to beat them.

Your concerns about the short passing game are legit. Martz is gonna have to mix it up a bit. The offensive line cannot have a game like last weeks. It must be at least average to protect cutler enough to connect on some intermediate passes. As good as these Pats are, they found a way to get blown out by a mediocre Cleveland team. They can be beaten but it has to be a combo of catching them off guard, good game planning, and good execution.

Well yeah I didn't expect either team to blow out the other. And as I noted in the OP there were benefits to either team winning. There were just more benefits in my mind to the Jets winning.

As much as I'll hate hearing it, I hope the media overhypes the crap out of the Pats all week long. Get them wayyyy overconfident going into this game.

The Pats never lose 2 in a row. I'd much rather face them coming off a big win than a loss in a hugely important nationally televised game.

That's not really all that meaningful for this year's team.

Yeah...that was mostly Bettis doing the pushing...the Pats don't have anybody like that.

It's not like this defense is radically different from that one... the main difference is that guys are older and our elite player on the line is now on the edges instead of at the 3 technique. But it's built pretty much the same.

I do agree that stuff that happened five years ago (against a completely different opponent - no less) isn't all that relevant today, though.

Anyway, my point is that yea, the way our defense and overall team is built and reliant on speed, it might struggle in the poorest of field/weather conditions, but it has nothing to do with Bettis knocking Urlacher on his ass five years ago.

I don't think this defense is anywhere close to as reliant on speed as the 2005/2006 defense. That defense was a bunch of 24 year olds flying around. That isn't the case anymore.

Speaking of the weather....the forecasted temps for Sunday are a high of 23, low of 0 with snow showers and wind. Given that the game is a late afternoon game and the sun will be setting, I'd expect temps to some somewhere in the high to mid teens.

Last night's game pushed NE up to #2 in Sagarin predictors (behind GB), and dropped the Jets down to #9 (below the Giants).

I certainly wasn't expecting last night's outcome, but the Jets offense being crap is not a surprise. This is a team that whose hype is based on lucking into the playoffs thanks to facing a team taking a self imposed bye, then advancing in the playoffs because opposing FG kickers couldn't kick. They've lost to every good team they faced this year. Needed OT and desperation passes to beat three straight mediocre opponents and has generally looked like garbage on numerous occasions. Their QB is barely a 50% passer and their best receiver can't catch the ball. That is a team the Bears should beat at home later this season. But I still think Chicago can beat the Patriots, and I'd rather not make that Jets game a must win.

The passing game is going to give the Bears trouble. I just hope they limit the big plays and tackle, because the Jets sure as hell didn't even try. When they blitz, they have to be more effective, preferrably coming off the edge rather than bunching up in the middle and running right into the chest of blockers. Despite holding the Jets to 3 points, that defense can get soft.
