VolCub,

DeAnthony Arnett is apparently announcing his decision tomorrow night. I've heard he's likely to commit to Tennessee, but do you have any info on which way he's leaning?

Two people I know have both heard Vols. One troll I know of says State, causing me to believe even more that he's a Vol. Tennessee is done at WR if this is true.

ESPN.com and the NY Times need to run an update to their Cam Newton story regarding John Bond. Both of these media outlets evidently considered Bond to be a reputable source, and they both reported that John Bond himself was contacted by agent-runner Kenny Rogers. Since Rogers has publicly denied speaking with Bond since they played ball together 20 years ago, Bond's attorney has now stated that Bond never had contact with Kenny Rogers. Bond heard through the 'gravevine' that Rogers contacted another MSU booster regarding Newton's LOI being for sale.

You guys probably don't care about this story, but there has been some really shitty reporting in all of this. I encourage you to read this article by Gregg Doyel at cbssports.com.

Thanks.

Being done at WR with Arnett makes sense. That'll give us Da'Rick, Z Rogers, Justin Hunter and Arnett as our top receivers, plus Milton if he doesn't move to TE. That's some solid top-end talent at WR.

Looks like Arnett is having some fun the night before he announces his commitment:

Arnett makes fun of the Tennessee QB for about 2 minutes straight in the Tennessee "commitment" video and calls Lane Kiffin "The greatest coach ever" in the USC video. His brother who's working the camera also calls Rich Rod "Dick Rod". This kid seems like a dick. He's probably headed to MSU. He'll fit right in.

Yeah, these videos are making me think he's a Spartan (only team with a legit shot he's not lampooned yet), and making me think he's a prima donna. He is beginning to remind me an awful lot of Markeith Ambles, who used a live stream video chat every night leading up to NSD to jerk fans around about where he was signing.

At the end of the day, I don't get very tied up in the decisions of an 18 year old boy, but if this kid chooses UT, I hope he leaves this crap at home and comes ready to work. If he wants to be a youtube sensation, I sincerely hope he signs with Sparty.

The Cam Newton story continues:

Two sources who recruit for Mississippi State said that Cecil Newton and his son, quarterback Cam Newton, admitted in separate phone conversations to a pay-for-play plan while Newton was being recruited late last year.

Mississippi State compliance officials relayed the alleged conversations to Southeastern Conference compliance officials in January, according to two other sources close to the football program.

Prior to Newton's commitment to Auburn, one of the recruiters said Cecil Newton told him it would take "more than a scholarship" to bring his son to Mississippi State, a request the source said the school would not meet. Cecil Newton also referred the recruiter to a third person that would provide more specifics, the source said.

After Newton committed to Auburn, another source said an emotional Cam Newton phoned another recruiter to express regret that he wouldn't be going to Mississippi State, stating that his father Cecil had chosen Auburn for him because "the money was too much."

The NCAA is investigating allegations surrounding the Newtons in regards to the recruiting process. Cam Newton, who is having a Heisman-caliber season for No. 2 Auburn, declined comment.

SEC compliance officials knew about this last January, so AU officials had to know about it around the same time. AU has already indicated that in their due dilligence they didn't find anything to validate these claims, and they chose to play Cameron Newton this season. They had the opportunity to remedy a potential problem before the player ever stepped on the field. Short of proof, I'm not going to believe hearsay. Who are the sources in this article, btw? Regardless of whether the accusations are being made erroneously or all/some of it is true, the story further tarnishes the SEC's reputation as it pertains to athletics. Either way the story ultimately leads, it's ugly and sad.

Why are MSU boosters, 'recruiters', etc. speaking to the press about this now instead of months ago?

I can agree with much of what you have said. As to your last question, Cam wouldn't have been as big a story months ago. Now that Auburn is undefeated, atop the BCS, and Cam is in Heisman discussions, the story has legs.

The Dallas Football Classic will now be called the TicketCity Bowl.

Why is this [expletive] on New Year's Day?

I have no idea but if either Texas or Michigan are in it I will be going.

Why is somebody complaining about more football on New Years? I love watching football all freaking day long and would happily watch more.

I think its been along time since New Years day was some sort of sacred college FB day. Why not have another game.

ESPN Radio in Dallas is saying the NCAA is going to suspend Cameron Newton in the next few hours.

This is being denied now, just turned on the radio and they were laughing about how something he said was taken out of context and caused a lot of talk on twitter.

I thought the NCAA cannot suspend an individual player.

Coach Chizik also denied this 'rumor'. It's very frustrating to me that everyone already believes Cam, his father, and/or Auburn Univeristy are guilty of wrong-doing that will require suspensions, vacating wins, etc. I believe AU wouldn't have allowed Cam to play this season if anything was going to result from the so far baseless accusations. they had a long time to review this prior to the season beginning.

It was picked up by some rather reputable blogger and others on Twitter.

I'll indulge you. Let's say AU thought they could get away with it and payed for Newton's LOI...I would hope that AU administrators would have cut their losses and reported a violation after finding out that MSU had reported a similar shakedown if there were any merit to it.
