Yeah it was partially a joke. I mean I could see the Bears deciding what Philly did...if Cutler is out and no one is going to be able to stay upright with our o-line lets bring in Vick/Juice.

The issue is that Juice does not have the arm accuracy to be successful in the NFL IMO. He's fast, but how many "fast" college QBs can be a successful run/pass threat in the NFL? Hell even Vick is like 75/25 Pass/run these days.

Juice isn't even Vick fast though is he?

Not even close. Juice isn't even that fast. Think McNabb's prime speed

That's about what I thought. So, yeah, he would get killed to behind this OL. Vick is really really elite speed wise.

Sounds like good news, but who knows with "lovie talk".

Bears coach Lovie Smith indicated Monday that Jay Cutler (concussion) is not in danger of missing Week 5.

"He seemed like he's in pretty good shape right now," said Smith. "There's no visual signs, that I can tell. He seems like he's OK today. I'm hoping we have all three guys (quarterbacks) available for practice Wednesday." Backup Todd Collins also suffered a stinger against the Giants, but is expected to be fine to practice. Cutler has an easier matchup at Carolina in Week 5.

That's kind of a weird comment, isn't it.

Because with concussions I'm pretty sure everyone is going almost solely off what the doctors say, not what coaches obervations are. And Lovie doesn't mention the doctors at all in that quote.

So if it's just Lovie saying "There's no visual signs, that I can tell" then no disrespect to him -- but what he sees doesn't really matter. What does the doctor say? That's what pretty much everyone is going to want to know.

Great news. Not even in danger of missing next game? If Lovie expects him to play 6 days from now, then the concussion has to be mild, right?

More than anything I'm worried that we won't see the same QB we saw in the first three games. But if Cutler plays and we beat Carolina, we'll be 4-1 and this game will be mostly forgotten. The O-Line is bad, but they've already proved that they can be good enough to win games.

Or maybe Cutler didn't have a concussion at all and he was just pouting in the locker room!!! /wilson

He wasn't so much pouting as he was taking himself out of the game so that he wasn't absolutely killed in the second half which could have endangered his entire season. :D

OK I admit Cutler was concussed. I think.

Did anyone else read that apparently after one of his many sacks last night, Jay started walking towards the wrong sideline?

Yep...it was in David Haugh's column this morning. He's the only one that apparently noticed though.

Others are saying that his teammates on the sideline noticed he wasn't acting like himself in the second quarter. They thought something was up.

Collins had this look on his face that I didn't know what to make of.

Kind of like he wasn't really sure he wanted to be running any plays....at all....under those circumstances. A real "I've been playing NFL football for 15 years and I know a death trap when I see one"......sort of look.

Collins got into the mix what..halfway through training camp? And Martz gives the backups no time with the first team at all during the week. They only run the scout team. And he didn't know he as going to be starting the second half until he was on the sideline. I really can't blame the guy.

I'm just criticising to criticise at this point, but if teammates noticed him acting strange on the sidelines, he walked to the wrong sideline for a play, and on several plays he was for some reason unable to get the ball out of his hands while staring at an open target, why did it take until halftime to put 2+2 together and get him out of the game? Not that having Collins in earlier would have done anything but still.

Maybe they thought he was just seeing stars after a hit and would get over it. Maybe they thought he was just missing the underneath routes as QBs sometimes do. The game was so crazy with so many weird things happening maybe no one bothered to say anything. David Haugh, according to what I heard, was the only guy who saw Cutler supposedly walking to the wrong sideline.

Denial. They looked at Collins and Hanie and went "nah, Jay's OK. He's got to be...."

The best thing to come out of that game was the dude who tased himself after a sack. That's the first time in a long time I actually laughed at a celebration.

Peter King now thinks that the Broncos got the better of the Cutler/Orton trade. Denver was so confident in it that they used a first round draft pick on another QB the year after.

They were saying those things last year too at this point in the year. Also weird the timing of his comparison. I could have told you that at the time of the trade Kyle Orton was a really solid qb. His numbers in 2008 pre ankle injury were pretty solid. The difference between him and Cutler is that Cutler is a statistically more accurate passer and gives you a definite added dimension. But it comes with added risk.

Put orton and cutler in a vacuum and cutler has better numbers.

Posted
Yep. Cutler has more mobility and a better arm. I think Orton has better leadership abilities and might be a little bit better of a decision maker. Cutler is the better QB, but I don't know by how much. If Cutler had Denver's line, he would be lighting things up. The Bears aren't 3-1 with this team and Kyle Orton. I am pretty sure Orton will fizzle down the stretch, but he is still playing better than I thought.
