I hate to go all Wilson on you guys but is there any possibility Cutler, despite being concussed, was acting like an ass to prove a point?

I'm looking through some of the game, because I'm a masochist, but some of those plays where he held the ball SO damn long were just inexcusable. Even when Martz called a 3 step drop he never threw the ball on rhythm. That ball needs to be out as soon as your back foot hits on the 3rd step.

Of course everyone had a bad game but there is plenty of game to go around here.

Doesn't make sense for these reasons:

1) By all accounts Cutler is a fierce competitor who wants to win above all else. I doubt he purposely plays bad in a completely winnable game

2) Cutler is smart enough to know that the O-line is not going to get better in season barring a miraculous trade for a quality guy. There's really no point to prove that can be fixed this season. He just has to roll with it I guess.

3) It's very possible that he was concussed earlier in the half and tried to play through it. I'm thinking the concussion was somewhat minor because if it was a decent concussion, he's not staying in the game.

Well I agree with all of that.

But when you run a quick slant on a 3 step drop...and you don't throw it. I just don't know what's going on there. That's a 1 read play.

I guess Jim Miller said Cutler got the concussion on the first play of the second half. What exactly happened on that play?

CSN broke down the 9 first half sacks to determine who was the blocker that allowed each sack.

Manumaleuna - 2

Garza - 1

Olsen - 1

Omiyale - 1

Louis - 1

Shaffer - 1

Kreutz - 1

Cutler running out of bounds - 1

Thats the play Dungy was talking about Bennett being open and Cutler holding the ball too long. Dlineman for Giants had about a 10 yard full head of steam from behind to just level Cutler.

I agree it's fishy, and that was my first thought until I learned about the concussion. I'd imagine that the brain isn't running too quickly when your concussed like that. He shouldnt have been in there. Blah.

I can't see Cutler trying to make a point that way when he'd be risking injury.

It's time like these I wish we had some clown of a head coach who would go off on a hilarious rant in the post game press conference.

NBC showing slow motion shots of Lovie standing on the sidelines looking like a sad clown is maybe 40% as good.

1. Look at 2-3 times Cutler was close to getting sacked and ended up getting sacked. He pretty much gave up. He just sat down. Maybe he did that because he wanted to soften any injury he could have received, but there were 2-3 times where he didn't even try to escape. I don't think he purposely played bad, he just didn't try to play good. He was just trying to make it out alive.

2. Your point is rational, but by possibly giving up, he is telling someone that what happened was not acceptable. It is not going to change anything most likely, but he is sending a message. I am not sure that when a person is sacked 10 times you try to act as rational as possible. You are just flat out mad.

3. Agreed.

You guys are cracked. There's no way Cutler was trying to make a point by playing poorly.

He just didnt try to play good? Really? Wow that may be the absolute most ignorant thing Ive ever read on this site. Ever.

You think sitting down and not even trying to fight a guy trying to bring you down is playing well or not? It is perfectly clear to me that Cutler got flustered by the pressure and pretty much gave up.

I don't think anyone said that. I said he wasn't trying to win. He was just trying to make it out alive. And playing like that sends a message.

Laurence Holmes is raising the point that Cutler could have had a concussion earlier in the game which really screwed with his abilit to make decision in the pocket.

A QB going rogue on the play calling isn't unheard of.

I don't think he was TRYING to play poorly...but you don't think there was something flat out weird about some of those strips after he'd been hammered the entire first half?

When the guys are wrapping him up and there are more than 1 doing it, fighting them is not going to do much. He was flustered, and for all we know, his head was seeing stars, but to think he gave up is absurd.

The plays I am talking about was when there was only one guy trying to wrap him up.

Yea I think his brain was in shambles at the point and shouldnt even have been in the game, but Cutler was trying to fight thru it to help his team win. Then at halftime the staff could tell something was wrong with him and his actions, had him checked out, and the medical staff determined he had signs of a concussion. Sounds a hell of alot more plausible than him just giving up.

Whatever. You think he quit, gave up, whatever and you arent going to change your mind and Im not going to change my mind that its a completely ignorant position to take regarding Cutler so.
