Wow, I just tuned in. Really poor lineup, Lou. They just had a freaking off day. At least put Colvin in if you insist on sitting Soriano. I really don't get Theriot hitting lead-off and Baker at 3B instead of Fontenot. Soto hitting behind both Nady and Baker. That's like five stupid things in one lineup. oof.

i love that someone pointed out to lou that theriot has been horrendous for pretty much all of may, and lou continues to bat him at the top of the order. it's almost like lou is trying to lose games.

Lou's comments after today's game:

I don't know. I don't know, I... I don't know. I really don't know, I'm gonna be honest with you. I wish I had some answers... umm... but I just, uhh... you would think sooner or later this offense would wake up and start scoring sufficient number of runs to win a baseball game. I mean, the last three games we've won we've shut out the opposition, so, I mean, I don't know. I wish I knew fellas, I wish I knew.

I guess he doesn't know.

I love that Bruce Miles has been asking him about Theriot's lack of walks, and all of a sudden Lou finally figured out that he wasn't playing well.

Tonights lineup. And no its not September yet, this is actually a lineup on June 1.

Fukudome

Castro

Nady

Colvin

Soriano

Fontenot

Baker

Hill

Lilly

Yup thats right, Nady is 3rd, Baker is playing vs a RH pitcher, and Soto is getting ANOTHER day off.

I get annoyed every time I see Hill in the lineup too, but here's a question: How many games is optimal for Soto?

Let's just skip to the post game where Lou throws up his hands when the offense can't score again. "What can I do? Put players in situations where they are more likely to succeed? Play my drastically superior catcher? You tell me." There, I just saved everyone about three hours.

Yadier Molina is gonna play around 160. I would imagine Geo could handle over 140.

130, with a few starts at DH

That's about what he's on pace for right now, which surprised me.

That's a perfectly reasonable question, but Geo sat or had off days on May 24, 26 (1PA), 29, today and will have another day off Thursday. Resting him more than a typical position player is fine, but this is a little much.

For what it's worth, he played in 141 games in 2008.

I would think 140-145 should be doable. I mean 3 off days over the past 9 days with 2 more off days coming in the next 6 days, plus a day game after night game situation in Houston sure does seem like A LOT of rest for your starting catcher who is head and shoulders better than your backup.

I really dont think Lou looks ahead at the schedule to see when off days or day games after night games are coming up. He just wakes up and says [expletive] it, Hill is starting today.

Why 11 less starts than he had in 08?

I don't know if he actually started 141, just played. Some of those may have been simply p/h appearances. I didn't go thru and check the game logs.

He only had 134 starts in '08, not sure how many of those were at DH.

131 starts at catcher in '08

I don't know, but this looks like the 14th Hill start, which would put him on pace for a good 40-42 starts, which would leave Soto with only 120. Koyie is getting 25% of the PA at catcher, which is too much for a terrible hitter, and leaves Soto with relatively few for a good hitting catcher forced to bat at the bottom of a bad lineup.
