The notion that this season is over is laughable.

Some may be complacent because of a [expletive] hockey team, some may be dumbstruck by years of disappointment. The bottom line is this - despite all that has happened, we are a week or two of solid baseball from being back in legitimate contention. This is not the AL East.

The preservation of Lou's pride or some [expletive] Hendry code of honor is not worth throwing yet another year away. Heads should be rolling.

Hendry and Lou getting the boot isn't likely to suddenly make them start playing solid baseball. This is a poorly constructed team even with Lou's crazy lineups. I'd have no problem seeing both fired today, but I'd be stunned if the team ended up playing much better than .500.

It isn't a poorly constructed team. The contracts are horrible. I'll give you that. But, this team is good enough on paper to win more games than they lose. They won't because there are people in charge that don't care and that attitude rubbed off on the players.

Finger pointing. Benching guys who don't deserve it. Giving playing time over better alternatives. This team is an absolute mess with Lou at the helm. At the very least, remove him. If his replacement can't turn it around, it was probably too late to do it in the first place.

Most managers don't have a hitter with Soto's patience and power in the 8 spot. Most 8 hitters suck, so they're put in the spot where they'll get the least amount of PAs. For Soto, there's no incentive to pitch to him, so he walks all the time. Everyone else seems to see this but Lou.

Actually, Soto walks more when he's NOT hitting 8th...........

That doesn't mean much. It could easily mean they end up something like 82-80.

They won't because there are people in charge that don't care and that attitude rubbed off on the players.

That's a stretch.

While I can certainly see how people think Lou is playing out the string here, I'm not sure I agree with that assessment honestly. He's done TONS of stuff. None of it has worked though.

He moved Z to the pen, he benched Theriot kind of, he switches the damn batting order every day. He's played flip-flop with everyone's role in the bullpen multiple times, other than Marmol. He's getting Colvin more time, he's gotten Hill more time. He (and Hendry obviously) brought up Castro and Cashner. I'm not saying, by any stretch of the imagination, that I agree with his in-game management, or quite a few of these decisions, of which he's responsible for, but he's been active anyway.......

In the end, I still see this team as an 80ish win team, short of injuries or a modest firesale(which I AM hoping for) of getting rid of what guys it's actually possible to move.

That makes it poorly constructed. It's not that they put a team of football players out there. It's just not good. They've got no studs, they've got multiple weak spots, they are fairly old in many spots and count on many guys with significant injury issues. It's basically the same team that won just 83 last year despite an an enormous payroll. That's poorly constructed. Winning a game or two more than you lose is not an accomplishment.

And just who the [expletive] is responsible for this?

This is the way Hill so aptly described the sequence of events:

"It was a perfect situation for the Brewers. They had a guy at the plate who … practices those situations (and) … he got the bunt down on the right side of the field.

"They had the perfect guy (Gomez) on first base who is one of the fastest guys in the league and they had one of the worst fundamental teams in the field."

One of the "worst fundamental teams" put it all together in one real stinker of a game.

"… Dropping fly balls, covering the wrong base, throwing to wrong base," Hill said. "Not just today, just in general."

I think Hill is trying to play his way out of Lou's favor by throwing him under the bus, for the good of the team. I respect that.

After 2006 changes were made to win in the short term. (Back-loaded contracts,no trade clauses, overpaying etc.) Its not the best built team, but there is enough talent to win more than they have.

Yeah, and people have been saying that for a year and a half, but at some point you are what the results say you are. The Cubs are not good.

Koyie Hill starting again and hitting 7th. Enough with this [expletive]

Quick! Someone post their stats over the last [arbitrary period] to justify this!

I hate Hill too but it doesn't irritate me nearly as much as Colvin not playing, or bringing in Marmol to have him issue an IBB. I feel like you guys overrate Soto a lot.

Soto is young and has been good in the past, and has the potential to be better. Hill is older, has never been anything but mediocre, and almost certainly won't be in the future. When you have a young player who's floor is what you get from the alternative on a regular basis, it doesn't make much sense not to go with him the vast majority of the time.

Koyie shouldn't be getting more than one start every 10 games or so, really.

We overrate Soto a lot, but yet you think Colvin should play more? Colvin is competing against 4 other people for 3 spots in the OF, all of whom have had a better career than Colvin has. Soriano and Byrd for the most part have been damn good this year, and Fuku started out really well, and still is the best option to leadoff we have on this team.

What has Koyie Hill done in his career to justify playing more than Soto? Soto is younger, and has had a much better career offensively than Hill. Also, no matter what Lou or the other idiots in the media would like you to believe, the defensive difference between the 2 isn't much.

The only person being overrated on this team is Tyler Colvin

If only offense was the only thing that mattered as a catcher.
