Iowa has offered a 25 year old JUCO player from Maryland (6'5 SF averaging 20 and 10, shooting 60%) who spent 4 years in jail for a robbery when he was 17. Penn State and Rutgers have also offered and Kansas State says they will after they get transcripts.

So we've got a coach who earned the nickname Black Magic on the playgrounds in Philly, is an Ivy League graduate and isn't afraid of getting shady. Fran is the man.

Yeah, but does he celebrate an upset win at home like a lunatic who has lost his mind?

Talor Battle is 1 of just 3 D1 players to ever score 2,000 pts, 600 rebs, and 500 assists in his career.

The other 2 guys got to play NCAA tournament games, however. New head coach please!!

That is just sad. It reminds me of Antwaan Randle-El never getting to a bowl game at IU. #-o

At least he got half of a trophy named after him.

I was surprised to hear the CBS guys talk about them as a legit bubble team. I thought they'd been getting underrepresented in the conversation, but I think they need a BTT Championship run to be viable.

I think they clearly have a better resume than Alabama...for what it's worth.

Any chance Bradley University looks at Jerrance Howard after firing Jim Les today? Id think coaching a D1 team in your home town would have to entice Howard a little. Am I concerned for no reason?

I think McClain would be a better hire for Bradley if they're looking at Illinois assistants.

Really? Whys that? Howard gets all the pub for being the great recruiter. McClain would probably be able to get alot of the Peoria talent however.

Peoriaman on the scout board can be insufferable, but he at least seems well-connected to the Peoria area/Bradley program and he doesn't see any Illinois assistants in the running.

Howard's way too green to step into a valley level job. McClain could probably run for mayor in Peoria if he wanted to, and might jump at the opportunity for a head coaching gig in his home town. I don't see Bradley hiring any Illini assistant though.

I love that you've got those 4 schools and Kansas State is the one waiting on transcripts before offering

"Waiting on transcripts" means "holding them hostage" when you're referring to KSU, they're just preparing their retaliation if they don't get the commit.

Really, what does this even mean? Don't be mad because you stole a recruit from us and then he wasn't allowed to play by the NCAA. It's not like you're mediocre 8-8 record would have been any better with him.

Seth Davis (I know, consider the source) speculated that they would look at Norm Roberts.

Jeff Rabjohns who apparently writes for the Indy Star and on sports talk radio in Indy, says he's heard Lickliter's name mentioned with the Bradley job. Originating in Indy though, I wonder if it's Lick/his peeps putting it out there to get interest.

Yeah this is probably the dumbest thing you've ever said (which is impressive, considering your resume up til this point)

9-9 Big Ten record

52 in Pomeroy

4 in Pomeroy Pyth. SoS

Wins against MSU, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota x2

Close losses @OSU and @Purdue

Bad loss: home vs. Maine

I don't think the committee even gives them a sniff, but it would be fun to see Battle get a shot at the big dance.

I'm guessing that doesn't look much different than Illinois' resume. We have the bad loss to UIC and probably better overall wins against Gonzaga and UNC, same conference record, and got blasted by OSU at their place. And we're virtually a lock.

Illinois has better good wins, a much tougher NCSOS, a worse bad loss (UIC won two other games the rest of the year...the king of bad losses), and the loss at OSU was one of the closer home games OSU played this year, actually.

Plus, Illinois has less to lose and more to gain in the BTT, just because of the seeding.

Illinois is 19th in Pomeroy and has 3 nonconference wins better than PSU's best. (+ an overtime loss to Texas)

Their conference resumes are virtually identical, but as was the case in '09, it's PSU's cupcake nonconference schedule that will likely do them in. I will say on further review, if they can play Purdue tight in a BTT semi (after beating Wisconsin) they should be squarely on the bubble.

Posted

PSU always screws themselves in non-con. Either they cruise through a cupcake schedule, or, like this year, they schedule some power conference teams and then lose to all of them. Beating Maine and one of those power teams puts them at 18-11 instead of 16-13, and they would be in the discussion more.

They get 11th seed IU in the first round, which is a "nothing to gain" win. They have to hope Wisconsin gets upset
