Best part about Indiana winning a few games is that their fans will think they might actually be good next year. The tears will be delicious

2012 Final Four or bust.

NIT Final Four

Still aiming too high. I really don't give a crap about IU, but I love that Crean is just totally exposed right now

Are you peeping through his bedroom window? Sicko. :-o

no, he walks around with his pants around his ankles

I'd say whoever gave him the 45 year contract is the one with his pants around the ankles.

I mean Crean inherited a good-to-great situation with Marquette being a school with strong national prestige in a weak conference. He hit the lottery with Wade, and coasted on his success in 2003 up until he left overnight and torpedoed our recruiting class.

He's an average recruiter, and a horrible in-game coach, and this is much more plain now at IU.

But also his penis is much more visible now that he's at IU. Dicks

He's been much more than an average recruiter at IU. It's actually been an amazing recruiting job. His in-game coaching is still very questionable though.

As a UNC fan, I'm not sure what to think of Drew 11 transferring. He's not nearly as good as Marshall and I think that the team responds to Marshall better as well. But, with UNC finally gaining some momentum, something like this happening in the middle of the season, probably isn't going to help things.

Glad to see Marshall will get more minutes, probably Bullock and McDonald too actually. But, this is just a very odd time for something like this to happen.

Roy needs to stay the hell out of California from now on too. Between Drew, the Wear twins, and Stepheson(legit reason for leaving at least) we don't exactly have a good track record as of late out there.

I may just be underestimating how difficult it's been for IU, but it seems like if Crean is such a great recruiter, he should be doing better than well below .500 in the Big Ten in year 3.

You're severely underestimating how difficult it is to take a team with zero upperclassmen, very few legit D1 guys, and build it into something resembling a competitive program. Convincing anybody with any talent to come to a program in the state IU was is an accomplishment in itself. He's not going to get the guys that Calipari does, so to be as competitive as they've been this year, especially considering the injuries, I think he's done a pretty solid job and I'm an Illini fan who hates IU.

I saw on twitter that Roy may now be interested in Shaq Stokes a PG from NYC Lincoln. He needs to stay away, he's going to be visiting Iowa and we look like the favorite. Hopefully if Roy does go after him he realizes that he's not going to get substantial playing time down there.

Guess which newly dismissed player from the Big Ten is visiting ISU this weekend? Korie Luscious!

Apparently Fred feels that the best way to rebuild a program is by bringing in headcases who (outside of White) really aren't very good. If he wants to keep tying up scholarships in transfers who will be short-term role players, great. I really hope Luscious and his awful shooting end up in Ames.

Amazing is a bit of a stretch. It'll be 3 full recruiting years before he brings in a difference maker to a program that recruits itself.

I don't think Indiana really recruits itself anymore. Not on the level of a UNC/Duke/Kentucky. Heck, I think MSU "recruits itself" a little more than IU these days

Depends on what you define as difference maker. Watford and Creek have both proven themselves to be worthy top 50 recruits (although Creek is of course nowhere near that now with the injuries). To then have 5 probable top 25 players coming in the next 4 years is pretty strong for a team who isn't good yet. Indiana hasn't consistently had that level of recruits in a long, long time. If the school can sell itself, why hasn't it been able to in so many years?

In response to Andy's comment, Crean had exactly 1 returning player and that was a walk on. The school was also on probation and had recruiting restrictions. That isn't as bad as it can get, but it's pretty close.

Within the state of Indiana in the very least.

An average recruiter? That's just plain stupid. You might want to check out the classes he has lined up in the coming years.

As for his in-game abilities, I think "horrible" is a stretch, but I certainly don't think he's great and the jury is still out.

I hope you're right. But it really hasn't for quite some time (though that was mainly due to the epic incompetence of one Mike Davis).

He should have transferred at the end of last season as the rumors suggested. I'm guessing he ends up at USC or UCLA. And don't kid yourself into thinking Stepheson had a more legitimate reason for transferring than the Wears did; he was just as homesick and uncomfortable at Chapel Hill.

I don't even know if I agree with that. I mean, I'm sure Indiana kids like IU, but they haven't exactly been raking in in-state recruiting.

Here's a list of the top five kids in Indiana each year since 2002 and where they went. Now Indiana probably wasn't recruiting all of these kids, but still, they haven't pulled as many as you'd figure. If you just whittle the list down to 4*+, they've pulled 6 of the last 35 since 2002.

What a shitty class that was. Angle was like a top 30 player in the country as a freshman and was supposed to be good. He basically never contributed in 5 years at Iowa. Ratliff was all hyped up and Iowa was supposed to be his favorite for a long time. I think he was around a top 50 kid when IU came in late and grabbed him. Then he kind of sucked too. Of course the best player ends up being the dude who goes to WKU and ends up in the NBA.

Iowa at Indiana today, what do you expect Hoosiers? I know you guys played really well against Minnesota but without Watford I like our chances.

I don't have a particularly good feeling about this game but I hope I am wrong. Iowa seems to have our number in the last 3-4 meetings or so.
