Jesus, how corrupt was SMU in the early-mid 80's? I knew about the football stuff but had no idea they were ever ranked that high in basketball.
They had a decent run in the mid to late 80s under Dave Bliss. They made the NCAA tournament 3 years in a 5-year stretch (losing in the 2nd round each time). In 1984--85 (the year they actually lost to Chaminade; the article Garwilly linked to was a year off) they were #10 in the AP preseason poll and got as high as #2. Jon Koncak was their star.

You can't stop Jon Koncak. You can only hope to contain him.

OU is atrocious this year.

In the spring, one of the early projections from the guy at Rock M Nation had OU's performance adding up to a (-1)-17 conference record. That was before they had a full team after the whole draft ordeal, but still. Probably the worst team in the Big 12.

From reading some of the stories on his commitment, he mentions over and over again that he (Yogi) is making it his priority to get Harris on board as well. That would be a hell of a class.

Most importantly, you got a nice little trail of talent coming in now.

You got a 5-star in Zeller coming in 2011. At least couple of Super 60s coming in 2012 (Ferrell, Perea) and possibly 2 more in Jurkin (borderline) and Harris (if he comes). Two 4-star recruits in 2013. And even 2 potential 4-5 star guys in 2014. Crean is setting up the program to be really good for a long time.

Jurkin's a 3 star, probably wouldn't have even been recruited if not for Perea.

He mentioned that because ESPN has Jurkin as a 4 star and 53rd on their list of Super 60 prospects for 2012 (actually only 11 spots behind Perea who is ranked all the way back at 42nd on that list). I'm not a big believer in ESPN's rankings so I don't put a lot of stock in that but it is out there.

As is the case with most things sports related, it's best to ignore ESPN

I don't disagree, but their basketball recruiting coverage should improve greatly with Telep.

I actually meant to put Patterson. But I guess I had Peter Jurkin on the brain.

Wisconsin is so dreadful to watch.

+1

It's hard to believe that Bo Ryan has the best Big 10 winning percentage of all time. They just win (Except in the tournament)

Quite an exciting game between ND and Georgia. Neither team played well in my estimation and both should have had the game locked up at points in the second half but couldn't finish. Luckily the Irish pulled it out in two OTs and face Cal tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm interested to see how that works out. I guess it's nice that they're trying, and they really have no excuse with their financial might to be as poor as they are at it.

I know the level of Tennessee basketball hate on here is very, very high, but beating Villanova 78-68 was huge today.

Great, very unexpected win today.

I don't get why either. They've done nothing but play by the rules. Wait...
