interesting commentary regarding kevin coble and his decision not to play basketball this year.

"One of the reasons for me leaving the team," Coble wrote in an e-mail, "was in response to repeated ultimatums by [Wildcats coach Bill] Carmody stating, 'You either go on the Italy trip, or you can't be a part of this program.' "

I read that earlier today. It just seems bizarre. Why would Bill Carmody run off a talented kid like Coble if he was actually capable of coming back and playing this season? There has to be something more at play here.

according to some rumors, coble had no friends on the team, was on a family trip in hawaii during the italy tour, and was seen often playing pickup basketball during the summer.

wow. i'd love to know what's true and what's BS in this story. Feel bad for NW, though. I really want them to break their NCAA streak.

Harrison Barnes, even tonight's 0-fer aside, has been pretty disappointing so far.

I was always surprised at the #1 player in the country thing but since everyone else agreed, I assumed I was just clueless. I mean he can do everything well but he's not very explosive and never wowed me when I saw him. He's elite but I don't think he knows what his game is yet and he doesn't have the crazy athleticism to dominate without that.

Yeah it was obvious there was something when his statement thanked everyone from the bus driver to the film dude but nothing about Carmody.

The Maryland game showed me that Illinois has to work on its inbound plays against a press or Mizzou will kill us.

You seem to assume that there will be made baskets by Mizzou that would require an inbounds pass. This is not a certainty.

Iowa is leading Alabama at half time. I know absolutely nothing about Alabama but Iowa leading any major conference team is a nice thing.

Iowa beat Alabama 55-47. I also know nothing about Alabama but that's a good win for us regardless. Held them to 47 points in a 64 possession game and to 34% from the field and 16 turnovers. About to watch it online to see if we played good defense or if they were just terrible. They were 51st in Pomeroy's rankings and their offense was good against Seton Hall.

ben mclemore's mom is being a [expletive] and won't let him go to KU. So now he'll wait till the spring. A good, loving mother doing the best thing for her kid...and probably reducing his shot at the NBA by 40%.

Wisconsin was up 24-0 at half. Its not 24-14 Mid 3rd quarter. Keep running the ball please.

That'd be traveling.

Bahahaha. Oops. Wrong thread.

But it sounded like Wisconsin basketball

she didn't want her son turning into a soulless creature with no nation. i would argue that she is doing what's in his best interest.

Because only Bill Self can coach a stud recruit to the NBA.

Because Mike Anderson coaches a system, not players. And it's a system that is not used in the NBA.

Self coaches defense first (real defense, not trap and hack), pick and roll, and high/low. All of which will have him better prepared to succeed in the NBA than running around with your hair on fire for 40 minutes.

In the end, Ben will likely get to the NBA based on his own physical attributes. But how well he's prepared and how long he stays will be directly related to how he's coached in college. Just my opinion.

Snood's right, if he doesn't get real coaching like he would at Kansas, he may be nothing more than a fringe starter type at the NBA level. You know, like Mario Chalmers, Brandon Rush, or Xavier Henry. In fact, if he goes somewhere with truly bad coach, he may become an NBA nobody. You know, like Frank Williams, or Sherron Collins.

pretty ignorant comment. what players exactly has bill self done such a great job with in the nba with his defense first philosophies? and what players has mike anderson coached that are worse off for playing for him? if youre good enough, the nba will take you, regardless of what system you play in.
