I think he should stay in the announcer's booth. He cracks me up as a commentator.

Besides the whole, "Congratulations on the NCAA Tournament berth" to Illinois after the game against Wisconsin, I agree.

It's not Lav's fault garbage teams like UTEP and Utah St were put in.

There are rumors of Rod Strickland heading back to his alma mater to coach DePaul. Now that is a name that sounds a lot more likely to actually happen.

No, but I still cringed when he said it.

2011 guard Matt Carlino has re-opened his commitment.

http://www.insidethehall.com/2010/03/25/matt-carlino-opens-up-his-recruitment/

So yeah I have no idea what the hell is going on now.

wtf

If you look at this in a vacuum only -- which is difficult because of various strange/negative happenings with the program -- this is likely a positive. At this point, I think an open scholarship for 2011/12 has more value than Matt Carlino. Now, a similar situation with Austin Etherington will lead to a different opinion.

So how good is Carlino? He's supposed to be interested in UCLA.

Carlino is a good player. He's pretty athletic, has good size, and is smart player. He'd likely be a combo guard off the bench, with the potential to eventually start, at a program of UCLA's caliber (I'm counting this year as an aberration). He played great as a freshman in Arizona and was likely over-hyped because of that. He was quite good, but not outstanding, this year at Bloomington South (13 points per game, 40 percent from 3). If Indiana was in a better position, I'd be happy to take him. I'm not yet sold some of the teams Carlino is reportedly interested in will be as interested in him, though. I do think with his recent comments about the weather that he's likely to end up back west somewhere.

Thanks, Exile. After this abomination of a season, I just want guards who can shoot or handle the ball.

FYI, Oregon is going to try and push for Izzo: http://detroitnews.com/article/20100329/SPORTS0202/3290384/Report--Oregon-plans-to-offer-Izzo-largest-contract-in-college-basketball

Throw Tom Izzo into the group with Tubby Smith where he's rumored to take about 10 different jobs every spring-summer. Whereas Tubby usually just sticks to the southern jobs, Izzo gets to be rumored everywhere

In the latest edition of "as the IU transfer rumors turn" it appears Verdell Jones is the current flavor of the week. There is talk that his father thinks he should be a full-time PG and that is allegedly driving the rumors. Father knows best amirite? :-))

Quite frankly if Verdell is the only significant player who transfers I'll be pretty happy. He has natural scoring ability but his defense and turnovers reduce his value quite a bit.

Unless Verdell plans on taking a step down conference wise he's going to be in a rude awakening when he winds up riding the bench and isn't allowed to chuck 15 shots a game and yell at his teammates for his own turnovers.

Yeah, I'm not buying this one at all. He's pretty much in a perfect situation for himself. I think he'll play a little more PG next year anyway.

Ditto.

You would think it is a perfect situation for him but if the kid has an inflated opinion of his PG skills and his dad is helping fuel that belief then I could easily see it being true. He is a cocky kid anyways and his attitude on the court last season was kind of obnoxious at times and by that I am referring to his little scream fits at teammates. I won't be surprised if it is true.

He should be the primary ball-handler next year. Bringing in a couple more wing players along w/ getting Creek back. Hulls is better off the ball. Rivers is better off the team.

But if he transfers....so be it.

I'm sort of invisioning VJ and Hulls more or less splitting PG duties. Crean started giving Jones PG minutes the last few games of the season and I think he'll try to do that next season. I think Rivers is going to have a hard time seeing the court (or at least, I hope).

I've heard several people complain about his attitude problem, but I don't see it. I question his ability to be a good PG because of the TOs, but I don't have a problem with his attitude.

Pullen putting his name into the draft, but not hiring an agent. Hope this kid is given the right advice and decides to come back next year, as he's not a first round talent "yet" until he can prove himself at PG for a year. Him not being back would change us from a preseason probable top 10 to barely top 25 if even top 25.

Just what I've been told, not confirmed btw...

That would be a huge hit.

Lavin to St. John's.

I didn't follow UCLA that closely but he either had to have been a good recruiter or slightly better coach than he gets credit for. I know it's UCLA but still he wasn't that bad.

And yeah it sucks to not have him doing Big Ten games.

Boston College fires Al Skinner.

Joining the ACC has nuked BC hoops. No one in the Northeast wants to go to BC, they want to play in the Big East. And no one in ACC country wants to play at BC, they want to play in ACC country (the South).

ACC expansion has been a disaster
