Eh, just read the article, not as awful as I was expecting. When Norm Roberts got canned, there was an article referencing AAU coaches in NY essentially saying Roberts couldn't succeed because he wouldn't give them what they want.(i.e. jobs, money, etc.) Cultivating relationships is to be expected. My only issue with the article was Mike Irvin barking out orders about what he needs to do, and the other guy saying he was done with DePaul if they didn't retain Webster. Very few of these guys are looking out for the best interests of the kids they coach, and it's really sad.

Agreed and your last few sentences are what I was referencing. The only place that could be worse than Chicago is NY and I'm not that familiar with them. Their sense of entitlement and hunger for power is just sickening.

Well, he's an awful coach. Though pretty clearly a good recruiter.

He's not a good coach but it's still amazing when you fire a guy with a 61-31 record, 2 NCAA's and a good recruiting class coming in. I wonder if Tubby would be in play there?

It is amazing, but perhaps that's because the administration used foresight and even more surprisingly understands basketball. I hate to reduce everything to Indiana, but what if IU had fired their coach who wasn't a good coach when he had a 67-38 record, three NCAA's, one national runner-up, and had just brought in a good recruiting class? Something tells me they don't go 29-29 over the next two years, then hire a cheater* two years after then sink into an abyss.

Of course, this analysis is dependent upon Wake actually being able to lure a good coach and not some ersatz Gaudio.

*It's possible with the ineptitude of IU's previous administrations they would have hired a cheater, but I think the Davis abomination made them desperate to win immediately.

The Kentucky quintet are all gone according to Kentucky Sports Radio's Twitter feed.

Yep.

Patterson, Wall, Cousins, Blesdoe and Orton are all going pro. I would bet Bledsoe and Orton will be back though.

A lot more coaching turnover in the ACC than I expected

Which one is Wojo gonna interview for?

Definitely haven't heard any rumblings about that, but I suppose it could possibly happen. He was the one responsible for Zoubek and Thomas' development over the four years as he is the big man coach. I just don't know if he has what it takes to be a head coach.

Also, X Henry elected to leave KU and go pro.

his handlers are about to become his entourage.

Do you mean his parents or his brother?

They (the parents) were the ones who basically handled his recruitment.

I know you're going to launch into a tirade about mercenaries and Hessians, but dude's entire family played at KU. And he was also the first one and done in school history.

Zavea probably saw how well staying for extra years at KU helped the NBA chances of Aldrich, Rush, Wright, etc. and thought he had to get the [expletive] out of there while he was still in the lottery.

don't make me post that kamala picture again.

could be worse, though. he could be flying across the australian wasteland in a jet-car hunting mel gibson. compared to kentucky, those kansas guys are jimmy chitwoods.

Kevin Dillard is apparently transferring to Xavier and Anthony Booker to Mizzou. The defections bring Lowery's number up to 12 since he set foot at SIU. Not only that, but we lose our best player and a guy that figured to only get better over the next two years.

The program's officially dead. We'll be lucky to field a team next year, at this rate.

Not everyone can have the same success at sending players to the NBA that Bruce "Lotto Machine" Weber and the Illini have had.

if xavier goes in the lottery ill s a brick.

is there a market for slow, fat, unathletic (by nba 2-guard standards) swingmen that can shoot but can't defend, rebound or pass?

he's basically eric gordon+2 inches+20 pounds-athleticism

i'd roll the dice on one of the 100 athletic project 4/5s before i'd draft henry but maybe that's me.

also, daniel orton is staying in the draft, im pretty sure the second they can (can they already?) that OKC will tell him he won't slip past them.

i had another sweet-ass ppoint i wanted to make but i can't remember what it was. oh yeah, orton had knee surgery his sr. year in HS and apparently there's a bugaboo that he blew his knee out last year, too? i dont know.

Boys basketball: Oliver Purnell reaches out to Public League coaches during first full day as DePaul coach

In his first full day as DePaul men's basketball coach, Oliver Purnell began laying the foundation for success where his predecessors ultimately failed.

"It (the phone call) meant a lot. The last coach (Jerry Wainwright) that came to town didn't reach out to me for three months, and I had the best player in the country ( Derrick Rose)."

Either they're going pro or they're coming back. They can't do both.

Well I assume Anthony Booker coming to Mizzou ends any idea of us getting another recruit this year, unless more than one current player transfers.

If true, I'm a little disappointed that it's not someone who will come in and play immediately.
