Zambrano pitched five scoreless innings against the Clinton Lumberjacks,

good grief, it's the LumberKINGS for pete's sake.

The mascot is one of my faves to giggle at in the MWL...

I'm not sure if it's the goatee, massive bicep, or cheesy grin that gets me, but the in-the-park mascot is even better :)

Keep playing softball, Carlos, and skipping your treatments. You rock.

Keep treating everything you hear from some random moron caller on sports talk radio as gospel.

And keep putting your head in the sand and saying "It's Gonna Happen!"

It's funny cause the hispanic players can't read to be offended. Or won't talk back. If he's lazy, what is Rich Harden?

What kind of racist crap is that?

Exactly my point. They only go after either the black guys or hispanic players. That crap is getting old.

I guess you missed the Todd Hundley and Aaron Miles boos.

It's more about the press going after them than the boos.

I think he was talking about laziness/not caring, which I've never seen attributed to Miles(and I always remembered Hundley's criticisms being a drunk)

That and Miles and Hundley were terrible, whereas it doesn't take bad output for a minority player to be viscerally hated.

So because I don't believe some random idiot who called in to say he saw Zambrano playing softball, my head is in the sand?

I agree that his antics are getting a little old, but I'm not going to let that lead me to believe every negative thing I hear about him. If you want to be blinded by your obvious hatred for a player, I guess that's your decision.

And yet it appears Z admits to playing softball, of course. But he hides behind it by saying he was only playing catch with his daughter. I'm not a Z hater, by the way. I used to love the guy. But I'm so sick of this team and what they have all become collectively. Just so very disappointed.

He has admitted that he plays softball in the offseason. But playing pickup softball while on the freakin DL for a bad back while your team that was supposed to win the World Series tanks into the crapper, just does not smell right at all. In the very best it shows total lack of good judgement. In the worst, it is a breach of his contract. But of course, it's all made up by those sneaky Sox fans.

breach of contract? playing pickup softball is breach of contract? I'd like to hear this.

It could easily be. These guys have clauses in their contracts that ban them from participating in all sorts of physical activities. Teams don't generally call them out on it, even if the activity leads to an injury, but it's in there.

softball? Sure, I've read some things about the various clauses in the standard MLBPA contract, but I've never seen anything that would suggest that pickup softball isn't allowed.

I seem to remember somebody having a clause in their contract that they couldn't play basketball. Does anybody else remember this?

He was caught playing a pickup game which was reported days ago. Since he was caught, he is now saying he was just playing catch with his daughter. Again, the Dusty excuse. Hide behind the kids. So lame.

I hear there are some guys at the cubs.com message board that are really interested in discussing this issue in more depth. You may want to check it out.

In general, and in ways that could often be related to his performance as a professional baseball player, he's made some poor decisions. I remember Len and Bob saying (sometime in the last couple of years) how, on an off day during the season, Z was seen living it up at the Six Flags water park in Gurnee, Ill. Sure, you can get hurt doing just about anything, that's true, but if I'm a guy who makes a nice (very nice) living as a pro athlete, I'm not doing that during the season... we're talking mega water park here. Is it wrong? If it's not spelled out in his contract, no. Would a large percentage of active MLB players do the same thing? I have no idea. But if I was fortunate enough to be making my living that way, while I would not encase myself in bubble wrap, I'm not going to be tempting fates in that way, either. Just never sure about some of the decisions this guy is making.

Maybe if Milton Bradley spent more time at a waterpark, he wouldn't have these attitude problems.

"Reported" by some random caller on a sports talk show. That makes it 100% true.
