I don't quite get much announcers seem to affect people's enjoyment of the broadcasts. Outside of Ron Santo, I can't think of any that were good or bad enough to make me notice much.

Joe Carter, Dave Otto, Joe Morgan, Buck and McCarver, Hawk Harrelson...

The whole Nats TV team can go on that list. Brutal. I had to listen to them for one of the games of the Cubs series.

The Pirates' guys were horrible in the years past that I've heard them. Not that that they were particuarly obnoxious, but more in that they were just SO boring.

They're boring because they're always losing. When something good happens they're practically screaming. There's no middle ground with those guys.

The Mariners' broadcast team is also horrible.

Steve Stone = John Madden = Captain Obvious

He's way overrated as an analyst, just like Madden always was (yes, I know Madden was more well known for his color work, but he was still an analyst).

I would take Dave Niehaus of the Mariners over any Cubs announcer.

While I don't believe Steve Stone is "in love" with the Cubs, I believe most his his angst is towards Jim Hendry. And after reading his twitter comments, they mostly deal with moves Hendry did or didn't make.

Stone used to be a really good analyst. But he's gotten way to "angry" and arrogant, and him teaming with the Hawkeroo is not good for Steve Stone.

Like dipping pretzels into dog poo, separately one is decent. Together, it's really just dog poo!!

Not sure if this has been posted, but if has, deal with it.

"We have absolutely no interest in Milton Bradley," Leyland said. "Somebody started that (garbage). And the people that started it ought to know better."

Lets see if Stone has the balls to call out Leyland, like hes tried to with Bruce.

I absolutely look forward to his response.

I too want to hear Stoney ask, "Who is Jim Leyland?"

He's done, he'll play out the string with the Sox because no one else wants him.

I'll bet money that his response focuses solely on Bradley, something along the lines of "what a surprise that a true professional like Jim Leyland wants nothing to do with a nutcase like Bradley. 23 RBI!! Nice work Jim."

My brother said the Scott Van Pelt show is running the rumor now. He did say, apparently, that it was just that, a rumor, but he also mentioned the Cubs might be in on Dunn. I'm sure it's complete and utter BS since Scott Van Pelt isn't an insider, but thought I'd pass along the info fwiw

I'm as big of a Dunn fan as a lot of people on here, but it seems like every year right around now we always hear at least one Dunn to the Cubs rumor. I'm not putting any stock into anything Van Pelt says.

Neither am I, just passing it along because Cubs deadline rumors are boring. Woo hoo, John Grabow

Where on earth would we play that disaster?

That disaster has put up a .959OPS and would lead the Cubs in every offensive category outside of batting average. I wish we could find somewhere to play that disaster....

Hendry said Tuesday he usually laughs such rumors off, but added: "I think it's unfair to the player, and in this case obviously there wasn't anything to it, and we're finally getting a little better, starting to swing the bats a little better. Milton certainly right-handed is swinging well, and working like heck to get better left-handed.

"He has played very well in the outfield. He has stayed healthier than most people gave him credit for. All someone has to do is pick up a telephone and call.

"I'll never give out information the world doesn't need to know, but I wouldn't deny it if it was true. ... I never had any talks with anyone about Milton."

Man it seems like someone we know told us something like this...man, who was that?

Oh...yeah...

One thing I said on my blog yesterday is that if we hear a rumor, Jim Hendry says to call him and he'll do the best he can to say if it's worth chasing or not. Sully and I each talked with multiple Cubs people yesterday when Kaplan put it on his blog, and they all said it was the first they heard of it.

:D)

Well this seems easy enough:

"Jim, any truth to the rumors that you're talking with Team X about Player Y?"

Hendry: "No."

Translation: No

"Jim, any truth to the rumors that you're talking with Team X about Player Y?"

Hendry: "We're always talking with other teams, looking to find ways to improve our ballclub."

Translation: Yes

Now if all someone has to do is pick up a telephone and call, then we're going to need your number, Jimbo. ;)
