Tigers intrested in MB (Silly Steve Stone Rumor)

Milton should try and hit RH next time we face a righty and he is in the lineup. I know if you are a career switch hitter that'd funk you up, but maybe he should try it though because he uber-sucks hitting LH this year.

This is what I've been calling for for a week or two now. Make him strictly a RH hitter and bat him second. He's still getting on base at a great clip, and he's hitting well as a righty. Maybe that success will roll over into righty vs. righty matchups.

I mean, it couldn't hurt right? He's been 100% useless as a lefty.

Yeah, there's no way I'd want the Cubs to do this deal unless they can get a solid bat back in return.

Don't trade Milton midseason just for the sake of trading him.

The purpose would be to free up money. And if we had to pay a decent portion of his contract, we should get valuable players/prospects in return.

Then wait until the offseason to dump him. But trading him now to get prospects in return isn't smart (unless you get a bat in return) because it only hurts the team.

And if the Cubs pay a decent portion of the contract, it wouldn't be freeing up all that much money.

If the Cubs pay half his salary from here on out, they'd free up $4 million next year and $6 million next year. That's decent savings for a cash-strapped team and there's a chance they'd pay less than that.

Saving part of Milton's contract might free up enough money for somebody like Dunn. I'd take prospects from the Tigers and then Dunn from the Nationals (though we'd obviously give them prospects as well) quite happily.

Like I said, I'd trade him if you can get a guy like Dunn in a separate deal. But if you're going to trade him to free up money, wait until after the season, not right now.

I wouldn't trade Bradley just to trade him. The Tigers have a bad farm system, although they also have a few young players in the majors who could be of interest to the Cubs. Still, it's not a good idea to just chuck him under the bus when he has a strong OBP and could hit a hot streak since he's a very good hitter.

I'd think about a deal that somehow gets Dunn on this team in Bradley's place, but that's not happening.

I'm not completely opposed to trading Bradley and his contract, but to turn around and add another big contract, for a player like Dunn who only adds value one way now and has old man skills, that is not a good idea. Now is the time to make the next Michael Barrett/Aramis Ramirez deal. Find someone about to break out and gamble on him, because you haven't lost anything over the current RF production if he flops, and he won't be a contract anchor. Someone like Hermida or Schierholtz or maybe even Clete Thomas.

so this isn't real, but how about just for fun i create a deal that could make sense for the various parties involved:

cubs get:

adam dunn

joe beimel

tigers get:

milton bradley

$4M from cubs

nationals get:

casey crosby, LHP

scott sizemore, 2B

blake parker, RHP

junior lake, SS

fire away.

Total hogwash. Two Cubs people said it's the first they've heard of it and that Jim hasn't talked with anybody about this. Let's remember Stone has a, um, a, shall we call it, a thing for the Cubs. And Kap is his buddy.

This is total fabrication.

Hard on. I believe the term you're looking for is hard on. Feel free to quote me on that in tomorrow's paper.

Thanks for clearing that up Bruce. Any info on trade targets? Or is Hendry going to sit idly and make a last second trade for depth?

It's really hard to say. I would not be surprised if they did nothing. The bullpen really is their primary targeted area. They're going to see how Ryan throws in Iowa. Other than that, they're really locked in as far as positions on the field.

So they aren't looking for help at 2b or for another catcher? I think Fontenot/Baker at 2b could be ok, but with other hitters struggling so much we can't really risk those guys struggling anymore at this point. Same with Koyie Hill, we all seen how horrible he has been when getting too many AB's. Soto won't be back probably for a few weeks. Then when he does come back he could end up struggling a little bit at the plate. So it would be nice to have a veteran back up catcher who could maybe at least hit 240-250 off the bench. As everyone else has said I don't really see the bullpen as a problem either. I guess they feel if they can add another LH reliever Marshall can go into the rotation and fit the rotation issues with Lilly out for probably at least a month.

FWIW, Marty Brenneman also mentioned this rumor on WLW during the game. Of course, he could have been talking to the same "sources" as Kaplan.

My guess is Brennemann and Kaplans source is Steve Stone.

And I bet Steve Stone's source is Steve Stone.

Maybe? The way he described the rumor, it sounded like someone had told him directly (although, he added it was hard to believe but then went on to say it was a good source).

EDIT:It was probably Kap running his mouth at the ballpark

I think Kaplan heard from the same sources the Cubs are looking to acquire Dunn if they can unload Bradley. Sign me up. Should've signed Dunn in the first place.

x 1,000,000,000

Lets just clear any outfield spot possible and sign Jason Bay in the offseason.

He's not a very good hitter with us. For whatever reason, he sucks here. It's late July and he's shown few signs of life all year long. We'd be trading him so we wouldn't have to pay $10million/year for little return on the investment.

Milton Bradley as a Cub is a disaster. Unloading his contract is something that should be considered.

"Stoney fires back at bruce miles:

In detroit for the series. Understand a guy named bruce miles believes that the whole bradley story was made up. Who is bruce miles."

Steve Stone needs to realize he's not working for the Cubs anymore and worry about his own damn team.

It's been years now, and his repressed ire for the Cubs is still quite apparent. It has become abundantly clear that when Steve Stone gets a grudge, it lasts for life.

It's ironic that Steve Stone has pretty much become Milo Hamilton.
