Sources told Gammons that White Sox shortstop prospect Gordon Beckham is not among the players in the proposed deal. Beckham was the eighth overall pick in last year's amateur draft.

Seriously?

I wonder if this means he's not explicitly in the deal, but could be selected from among a group of prospects as a PTBNL. No one's leaked the names the White Sox are offering yet.

I'd be stunned if Beckham wasn't part of the deal.

Poreda and Richard have been two names thrown around, but all of this information is coming from two sources I have my reasons to doubt (Gammons and Levine). Without more details, it's really hard to evaluate this trade. If it's just Poreda, Richard, and two Low A throw ins, this deal makes no sense from the Padres' end.

Infielder Gordon Beckham cannot be traded because his one-year anniversay as a professional player isn't until August.

I posted about it earlier in the thread. There's nothing stopping the White Sox from making him a PTBNL in the deal.

I don't see this happening.

Peavy can just wait it out and approve a trade to a team of his choosing or he sticks it out in San Diego. It's going to be a surprise if he goes to an A.L. club.

He's getting paid either way.

i'd prefer that the deal doesn't include beckham, that peavy signs off on it and it signals that the pads are in firesale mode, in conjunction with hendry being willing and able to trade for adrian gonzalez.

not including beckham would mean the pads are accepting less than ideal return for a high-profile player; i'm not all that high on peavy outside of petco (not saying he's a fluke, but he ain't the same guy); and i think gonzalez would improve the offense significantly, and with a good contract to boot.

but i'm pretty sure this pipe dream gets derailed at any number of the necessities

Friend thats a White Sox fan just texted me and said Peavy declined the deal. He said it was on 670am..

Can anyone confirm this?

Crap day for the Pale Hose. Not only are they humiliated at home by their chief rival but they have to go through a much condensed version of what wewent through all winter.

i wish our peavy process ended this quickly, that's for sure.

I'd much rather go and get a second baseman who can rake over getting Peavy at this point.

Okay, your next assignment is to find that guy. The thing is, Peavy is available, and all reports indicate he'd prefer the Cubs over anybody. Utley and Kinsler aren't exactly available.

I shall take the assignment. Rake may not be the right word, but Ray Durham has posted an .800+ OPS in two of the past 3 seasons. In 2006 he was two points off from a .900 OPS.

And he's a free agent.

Or how about Senor Lopez:

He's done most pf his damage at home, but he's still an improvement over Fontenot and/or Miles.

Sounds like the Padres are getting pretty desperate. Jon Heyman is reporting that the Padres asked the White Sox at the last minute if they had any ideas on how to persuade him. If Peavy is going to continue to be very picky about where he will accept a trade to and the Padres really need to move him, hopefully something can get done with ownership to allow us to take on salary and maybe Hendry can get a deal done without giving up Vitters.

Ya don't worry about it Jimbo, just let the Astros or Braves swoop him up while you go look for more Aaron Miles type players out there.

It's obvious where he wants to be, and it's not the southside of Chitown.

Hendry can't trade for Peavy because the Trib won't approve the budget boost. Hendry could have a deal in place and would still have to wait for Ricketts to completely take the team over before they could make it happen.
