I'd be really mad if I were the Braves. Tommy Hanson and Jair Jurrjens isn't enough but Poreda and Richards are?

I recall the Angels also offered Brandon Wood in a package. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Anaheim nix the deal because the Padres wanted Nick Adenhart too?

I see Sox fans getting excited about this and I will laugh if Peavy turns it down. On the other end, is their really much difference between the Padres and the Sox. A bad offense with a couple of decent pitchers. I can't imagine the Sox fate being much different than the Padres.

Come on, the White Sox offense is easily better than San Diego's, as is their rotation and pen outside of Peavy. Plus the White Sox are committed to winning and operate a payroll that reflects that, while the Padres are being held to a $40 million payroll. There's a huge difference. But if I'm Peavy I'm thinking that if the White Sox aren't my ideal destination, its very likely that more of these deals will pop up over the course of the next 2 months.

Well, the White Sox are a team whose ownership is stable and has shown a willingness to spend. They may be no better this year (although they probably actually will be), but over the course of his contract he could probably see more significant success with the White Sox than SD.

Yeah, I was going to add the disclaimer that the Sox will probably be better down the road but I don't see much difference between this year's Padres and this years White Sox. However they like to overachieve when they should be horrible so who knows.

I like that there is a report he is hesitant to pitch for Guillen. I'd have to imagine Ozzie is a negative factor for many players considering playing there.

I don't know why that would factor much, most managers have thrown pitchers under the bus throughout their careers at some point. I don't think Guillen overworks pitchers and they have a very good pitching coach with Cooper.

SD Union Tribune reporting that no deal is imminent and it's unlikely that Peavy will be traded to the Sox.

Really weird that the article says that on Wednesday night Peavy reiterated his desire to stay in the NL, yet on the Score Scott Linebrink was just on and said that Peavy wanted people to know that the "NL only" thing is false.

Not the best stat to quote but the Sox have 7 more runs than the Pads and they play in a hitters park in the AL.

If you want to get technical, the Pads have a better record than the Sox.

The season's not over yet. The White Sox hitters have a much better track record over their careers than the Padres hitters sans Gonzalez.

Well, he's a jackass and pyschotic, and insists that Ozzieball won them the World Series while ignoring all the HR and incredible starting pitcher performances that really drove that season. If you had your choice, I'm sure lots of guys would prefer to play for somebody else. Plus, he might not want to be called a [expletive].

Jerry Kranick from ESPN has spoken with Peavys agent, and he doesnt think it will be done. Axelrod is saying Peavy may be interested later on, but right now Peavy is leaning towards waiting to see if another deal comes along to a team he wants to go to. Axelrod says there are 3-4 teams that Peavy would accept a trade too right now with no hesitation.

With Peavy pitching for the Padres all year.

They may have a better track record, but every hitter on that team is getting really really old. It shouldnt be a surprise if their offense doesnt pick up at all, and they have Pods playing CF, that says enough about their offense.

At least White Sox fans get to ride the roller coaster of highs and lows that we seem to be so familiar with.

I much prefer trades when they come out of nowhere a la Cutler.

I'll be disappointed if this deal doesn't go thru, I would've looked forward to Peavy in Chicago.

There is another team in the city he could play for.

Not me. If he doesnt come to the Cubs, Id prefer he goes to Anaheim.

I wonder if Peavy declining the trade would be the end of the line for Ozzie?

That can't look good to the organization as a whole when a player singles out the manager as one of the reasons he won't accept a trade there.

We know the Cubs and Dodgers are two. The Angels, Brewers, Astros, and Cards may be the others? Probably doesn't matter about Atlanta since whether or not he nixed the deal with them over the offseason, they are just about the last team that needs pitching.

Well at the very least, now Towers phone is going to be ringing off the hook with calls from those teams with offers for Peavy. He may have just created himself a market.

Barry Axelrod, Peay's agent, is shooting this down and saying Peavy is unlikely to accept at this time.

Just re-quoting what people need to see. I'm glad Peavy is against it, way to stick to your guns and hold out for what HE wants, not what the Pads want. He's in control and it sounds like he fully understands that.

I'm assuming those 3-4 teams he would go to without hesitation, the Cubs are obviously one of them. I would say Atlanta as well but didn't he reject the idea of going to Atlanta? Maybe that's changed. Would the Brewers be the other team?

Ehh, I'm sure he'll be diplomatic about it and claim its the AL.

Why? So the Cubs could still blow games with this bullpen and no bench?

The difference between Marshall and Peavy isn't worth the upgrades needed to improve the bullpen and bench (now regulars since they can't stay healthy). Even though the farm is improving, they don't have enough to improve every sector of the team.
