  1. Maybe because Ricketts doesn't have any money?
  2. I'm not sure how $14m is steep in price. It's steep if the owner doesn't have any money. Then why'd he buy the damn team? Boyhood dream? Who knows. Keeping Hendry was a big red flag for me regarding Ricketts. And I was pretty happy when he bought the team. And asking for the bonds 1 year in to ownership? He didn't really have a lot of goodwill banked to be trying that move.
  3. Is there any question that the Ricketts are hurting financially? Any Cub fan expecting a big splash is in for a letdown. Carlos Pena and Kevin Millwood are more the speed for Hendry right now. Not a lot they can do until the bad money's off the books.

  5. Thank you for the clarification Bruce. Now if he would fill a vacancy left by Hendry, I would feel even better.
  6. http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/4832 "Hendry said farm director Oneri Fleita would fill the vacancy at Iowa. Hendry praised Bill Dancy, the manager at Class AA Tennessee. He also said Tom Beyers would be promoted from hitting coach at Tennessee to minor-league hitting coordinator, the job Keller had." Uhhh.....what? The farm director is now the AAA manager? Sorry if this has been posted already. Please delete if so.
  7. Cub manager worries about media criticism part II. Nice to see nothing's changed.
  8. So from what I understand: 5 months ago, Soriano had a scope, not major knee reconstruction, on his knee. A simple knee scope. And five months later, he hasn't yet tested his knee "100 %"? After a scope? This will go down as Hendry's greatest signing.
  9. Also got to love a player who brings up the "curse".
  10. And why is any of this true? Because the people in management positions completely fubared the handling of the situation. Suspension, bad mouthing, and just general stupidity in dealing with the situation is what caused it. Get that through your head. If Theo Epstein had the same issue, you wouldn't hear a peep out of him about how difficult the player made the situation. He didn't bad mouth Manny when he had to get rid of him. He may have overpaid to get rid of him, but he got something decent in return. The way the Cubs allowed the situation to play out is the reason that there was a perception the "he couldn't come back". If they kept their mouths shut and dealt with it like adults instead of 10 year olds, Milton might be a Cub still and maybe provided some much needed production next year. Well done. :clapping: The Cubs did a terrible job handling this situation. Bradley was a jackass but the Cubs were plain stupid in signing him to begin with. fixed
  11. I'm happy they got rid of him, they had to get rid of him. Manager hated him as well as most of his teammates. Instead of trying to make that problem less worse, they made increased the damage depending on how poorly Silva does or what that extra money brings in. Silva is bad, but he won't be as bad as he was with Seattle in '08 even with the lack of MI range. None of that is a reason to get rid of a player. Why not get rid of the manager if he's incapable of managing the guy (and hasn't exactly been doing a bangup job nor is he owed much in comparison). I would have to say if a team applauds after a GM informs them of a suspension of a player, it's probably for the best he's not on the team.
  12. I wonder if this is just cause for Hendry's firing? I would sure hope so.
  13. The trade is going to hinge on the Cubs ability to flip Burrel and the amount of money they are going to eat on Bradley's deal.
  14. I thought the same thing. And didn't Harden say he preferred pitching at night when it's cooler? I thought I remembered reading that. Texas wouldn't really fit that. Money talks.
  15. No way this will be a one year with an option.
  16. As always.....still a better signing than Aaron Miles
  17. +1 This is already a smarter signing than the Miles signing. Of course, there's not much that isn't at this point.
  18. I have a bad feeling about this trade if it goes down. IMO Hendry is really in win-now mode and might empty the farm for Granderson.
