  1. Do you ever have anything to post other than digs at the Cubs, management, etc? no, which is why he hasn't been around much the past couple of months. not a lot to rip right now, what with the cubs having the best record in baseball. When they hoist the Series trophy, they will get all the props they deserve. Until then, the "best record in baseball" on June 21 means squat. "why he hasn't been around much the past couple of months"? not that it's any of your business, but my son learned to walk so my computer time is limited. Waaaay too many people take this way too seriously.
  2. " Pie is marginal "? I thought this was one of Hendry's untouchables?
  3. I would love to see those uni's permanently.
  4. that can't be true, corey is a lazy bum who doesn't care enough to improve his approach at the plate and become a better player. Good point. Because after being the third overall pick 10 years ago, Corey will now view this trip to AAA as the sign that he must change his approach to hitting. The light bulb will now go on and he will become the "five-tool" player that the Cubs were waiting for. I say he goes "Willie Mays" from here on out.
  5. Well you can't possibly bring in anyone who would block the great Felix Pie.
  6. Please explain how Sosa's last contract was a bad idea. You will never get an answer. Is he referring to the fact that the Cubs had to pay 16 million to Baltimore when they traded him?
  7. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/mariotti/973638,mariotti052808.article Can't stand Mariotti, but he brings up some good points.
  8. I stand corrected; I still think this is what to expect for the rest of his time as closer.
  9. The problem isn't just with hitting the first batter in an inning. IIRC, he now has hit 4 or 5 batters to start an inning and has walked 4 others to start an inning. But anyone who expected differently was wishing on a star. Wood didn't have the best control as a starter, and when you don't have 2 or 3 innings to work out of it, this kind of sporadic success is to be expected.
  10. I don't really know how anyone could find Jim Hendry "likeable". Any interview I've ever heard with him, where someone like say Derosa is brought up, Jim's first response always is something along the lines "We took a lot of heat when we signed him" or "A lot of people criticized us about that signing". I don't think I've heard a G.M. of a baseball team who automatically likes to point out how wrong people were about something, rather than say something like "Our scouts really did their homework on him and we felt he would be a good addition to our club". He seems to have extremely thin skin when anything negative is brought up regarding what is perceived as a bad trade/signing. I just don't think he handles himself like Theo Epstein or Cashman does.
  11. If you're playing blackjack and hit on an 18, and draw a 3 for 21, that doesn't make it a smart decision. It was an extremely poor decision that happened to work out splendidly despite your stupidity. Smart decisions sometimes turn out badly, and bad decisions sometimes turn out well. The Cubs taking, and keeping, Hamilton, would've been in the latter category. That's ridiculous. How would it have been a dumb decision for the Cubs to take Hamilton? Because they would have been playing 24-on-25 for as long as Hamilton was on the roster. Folks think Lou didn't give Pie a fair chance... just imagine the non-chance a guy with 50 ABs of .687 OPS in lo-A ball would've received. Look just see the situation for what it was -- the Cubs weren't built for rolling the dice on longshot reclamation projects in hopes of a longterm payoff, they were built to win right away. Wade Miller, Chad Fox.....
  12. It's amazing that the fanbase of a team who's unofficial motto is "Wait till next year" suddenly has a problem with a player who says their team is thinking World Series. Maybe people would have been happier with "We're really aiming for a wildcard spot".
  13. That you, Marty? I was gonna say that... An absurd ending to a post that could've made sense. Yea, because there's absolutely no truth in that statement whatsoever. The Cubs are the standard bearer for successful franchises.
  14. The only thing that matters in this entire episode is that Fukodome doesn't like the shirts. That means they shouldn't be sold. Why would any Cub fan buy and wear this shirt knowing that the player it's directed toward plays for the Cubs, seems to be a fan favorite, is a good player and is offended by this? This is entirely different than a shirt that says "Hundley Sucks" or something along those lines. End of story.
  15. I never understand when people say stuff like this. Getting to the playoffs is much harder than actually having success once you're there. Sadly, both tasks seem difficult for the Cubs.
  16. At least he'll have an excuse this year. Nicely played.
  17. If I'm not mistaken, Corey was one of Hendry's original "untouchables"........
  18. He's spent almost 600 million during his time in charge. The Cubs still have the longest professional sports streak with no championship. "We could be a lot worse off"? Is Hendry to blame for all 100 years? The amount of time since the last WS championship has little to do w/ Hendry's performance as GM. The only years that effect his grade as a GM are the ones when he actually held the job! I guess I didn't make my point clear. He's spent 600 million and they still don't have a World Series title.
  19. He's spent almost 600 million during his time in charge. The Cubs still have the longest professional sports streak with no championship. "We could be a lot worse off"?
  20. Anyone have 3 for that day they would like to sell? It's my birthday and my wife daughter and I would like to go. I checked cubs.com but the tickets were brutal Thanks in advance.
  21. I have a feeling Lilly's dropoff is going to be more significant than Haren's.
  22. Are you referring to the Cubs or Astros?
