  1. You're giving Hendry waaaay too much credit.
  2. If this is indeed the package, we could have topped it pretty easily. Fill enough of a smaller market team's holes cheaply and with a little upside and you can make these video game trades. Hill/Pie/EPatt/Marmol crushes this package. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=89351&src=152 "Hendry gave a couple of vague examples that at least indicated whom he's not trading. "Every now and then, we get somebody (saying), 'Well, you probably don't want to do it, but how about (pitcher) Rich Hill?' And we say no." " Hmmmm.....another Cub "untouchable"....that makes me a little nervous. I believe CPatt, Wood, Prior and Pie fall into that category also.
  3. So no one has a problem with Wood closing even though he has no previous experience closing and is prone to being wild?
  4. If it has anything to do with getting Fukudome, or betters the chances of getting Fukudome - Kaz Matsui is not going to hurt this team. And if Hendry and Co. are so worried about Fukodome coming that they would go after Matsui, here's a thought: Get a hold of Fukodome's people and tell them they'll pay his interpreter and or personal assistant to come over here with him. That would help a whole hell of a lot more and would give the Cubs one less mediocre infielder.
  5. Well, the Cubs have a hard time projecting their own prospects, so I'd be more than happy if they took a chance on him.
  6. Soriano only out-vorp'ed him by 3 points, so we kind of are. Agreed. The Soriano deal doesn't look any better to me.
  7. Get ready for Hendry to outbid everyone to land the great Kaz.
  8. Hawks reportedly approached him 10 days ago. Please take Hendry with you, John.
  9. Actually a proactive trade. Sox were not going to resign Garland, they are going to re-up Cabrera and they have now a huge upgrade at SS in return for a pitcher that won 10 games last year. And if they don't trade Uribe, they have a guy who can play a pretty decent sub role.
  10. Cubs Trib message board said 3 year deal per Kap. FWIW
  11. This has already been shot down. http://www.stltoday.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=501612
  12. Of course Hendry's interested. Could it be any other way?
  13. If I heard the news report correctly, the agents have already been contacted and I think the G.M.'s have also. I could be wrong on the G.M. part.
  14. Barring a trade, the Uribe signing ended the Eckstein Sox interest.
  15. I don't have the overall stats, but I know one team who in 1984 came back to win a five game series after being down 0-2. Ah yes, sadly the Cubs can't play against themselves
  16. Or maybe they just suck at baseball. For 99 years? I don't think a sample size could get any bigger than that.....
  17. could someone explain to me why I was confident the Cubs would win this series? I must have been dropped on my head as a child
  18. I just want to quote this for it's pure awesomeness. Way to go Badger. Wow. "He's built up some equity"? Are you serious? The supposed ace who is getting paid more than any other pitcher in history and Cub fans are making excuses for him getting booed over his absolute horses**t pitching during the most important stretch of the year? That is mind-boggling. Here's a suggestion Carlos: Shut up and start pitching like the supposed "ace" you're getting paid to be. And then people will stop that oh-so-unfair booing. I'm paraphrasing DeRosa: When you perform well, you get cheered. When you perform badly, you get booed. Amazing how such a simple concept is so hard to understand. Maybe a list of "Players not to boo based on built up equity" should be handed out before all games for those who want to voice their opinion over poor play and performance.
  19. The only thing to remember about Hendry is he has spent nearly 700 million dollars since he took over and has one playoff series win to show for it. I wonder if fans even comprehend that, or just like to not think about that ungodly amount. It's not my money, so I could not care less, but you would think buy some stroke of whatever he could have lucked into assembling a World Series winner.
  20. 3 homeruns is good enough to win when your ace doesn't have a horrible outing for the third straight game corrected or if you get runners on base. If your "ace" is pitching, I would say 5 runs should be enough to win.

  22. No we don't suck. You're just expressing an "emotional sentiment'.
  23. A team that hasn't won a World Series in 99 years, and pessimism is labeled "irrational". And a team "in contention" in the worst division in baseball. That's beautiful. that's an over emotional sentiment around here. The fact that we haven't won a WS has very very little to do with the '07 team's struggles -- that's superstition. And you win a WS by making the playoffs. You get to the playoffs by winning a spot. You win a spot by putting yourself "in contention" for the stretch run. That's why we are in a position deserving of some optimism. Yes, the Cubs have put themselves "in contention" by beating up on bad teams during the weakest part of their schedule, which is what they are supposed to do. And what's the explanation for the first two months of the season, when they dug this current hole that they still haven't got out of? And you completely missed my point about pessimism. Pessimism and a Cub fan goes together like peanut butter and jelly. Anyone who thinks that we are going to see a World Series title with this team is more than welcome to, but it isn't very logical. It's not an "emotional sentiment", it's facing facts.

  25. You want Prior to come back as a AAAA power hitting corner OFer? I think he's saying that he wants Prior to have some balls. Ankiel's a great story, but probably won't pan out long term. Regardless, Ankiel has shown tremendous heart by coming back from his public humiliation, plus his crack-head of a father making life hell. Ankiel had a lot of excuses to quit, and nobody would/could blame him, but he still made it back to the show, and earned his way up. Sure which mark Prior had that kind of heart. speaking of, where is Prior? You have to be kidding with that BS about Prior. Prior broke bones in his elbow after getting hit with a batted ball and pitched one month later. He ran into Marcus Giles, flipped over him, and landed directly on his throwing shoulder, and pitched the next inning. He isn't lacking heart, and he's working hard to get back to where he was. Your statement about Prior's "heart" is possibly the most ridiculous thing I have ever read here. Save this post on your hard drive somewhere. Cause you're going to have to re-post it 25 times between now and next season. I know because I have already, and I just don't have the energy anymore.
