  1. Rome asked Giles about Kendall (they're tight) and Giles said that Kendall has a very painful hand injury that he hasn't told anyone about.
  2. I haven't read the thread, but I'm more worried about the starting pitching after Z and Lilly.
  3. There's no way he could top the guy who's spent 680 million dollars with zero results.
  4. Vance how in God's name could you vote 100,000 times for Lee? Did you really have that much down time?
  5. Was it the band that ruined the field or the owner trying to generate more profits that ruined the field? Why don't they just take some of that revenue and fix the field?
  6. I'm guessing a bunch of teams lost interest when they found out the Cubs weren't going to pick up basically all of Jones' contract. Which tells me Hendry didn't call off the Marlins trade. He was probably told by one of his bosses or the commissioners office that he would not be allowed to send that amount of money in a trade.
  7. Just reporting what their baseball sources told them. No different than Kaplan reporting last night that the Cubs had traded Jones to the Marlins. except that the score has always been very unreliable. So why the uproar? Take things with a grain of salt.
  8. That's essentially how I feel, and kudos for Hendry for not compounding the error of signing Jones by making a poor deal. No way Hendry nixed this deal. Piniella wanted Barrett gone, Hendry traded him. Piniella wants Jones gone, Hendry tried but no doubt someone stepped in. I heard Dave Van Dyck say that he thinks the Commissioner's Office played a part. Anything over 1 mil has to be approved by them. He also mentioned they haven't been happy with the Cubs since their offseason spending spree. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but there is no way Hendry pulled out of this deal. Also interesting that both Hendry and McDounough have said they will have no salary constraints trying to make this club better. So if Selig's boys didn't get involved, they've got some explaining to do, because this was reported as a done deal by none other than the flagship.

  10. Per David Kaplan, Jones and 5 million to the Marlins for a left handed minor league pitcher. Amazing, the guy who keeps paying money out for his mistakes still has his job.
  11. If the transition is that late, then I agree with goony. Still, I wonder how much damage even Hendry can do when the team is in transition and everything is up in the air. I don't think we'll see anymore 136M or even 44M or 21M contracts handed out. The worst thing he can do is trade what remains of the farm system, and if that's going to happen, it will likely happen during this season anyway. 2008 is going to be a throw away year. The best we can hope for is that Hendry hasn't traded Soto,Pie,Cedeno,Veal,Gallagher,Patterson, and Marshall. If we have most of these guys back, we'll at least have some young players to throw out there and rebuild with. I still think the Cubs should be sellers this season, but I would be surprised, nay, shocked, if Hendry puts the needs of the organization before his own job and legacy. I'd be mildly surprised if he even recognizes that this team, as currently constructed, is a .500 club at best. Well put, Grace. I'm very nervous that he's still at the controls.
  12. I figured it was time for the monthly update. Yep. Still spinning their wheels.
  13. I don't have time to read 46 pages, so here goes. Don't even look at this as a "trade". This was nothing more than the dumping of a player that the manager no longer wanted on the team. What was given in return means nothing. He was not going to be resigned and Lou wanted him out.
  14. Yea I prefer the "no accountability" method. I think everyone should pretend like absolutely nothing is wrong and continue as is.
  15. Hendry won't be allowed to take on players with big remaining contracts.
  16. different faces....same result.....we'll get em next year....
  17. plenty of room still available......
  18. Well, Soul it's not up to you or IMB to decide who exercises restraint and who should or shouldn't visit threads. And what the hell does "deserves what he gets" supposed to mean? A giant shout down by Sammy apologists on a message board? Oh, the agony.
  19. Uncle Lou has pulled off some head-scratchers this year. I have this sinking feeling at the end of his tenure I'm going to be saying the same thing about him that I did about Dusty.
  20. Actually, it's more RBI's and HR's than everyone besides ARam, more doubles than everyone but Lee and Soriano, more total bases than everyone but Ramirez and Lee. Of players with at least 50 PA's he has a higher OPS than everyone but Ramirez and Lee. Not bad for a guy just flailing away for HR's. Oh, so he has better stats than everyone on the Cubs not named Lee, Ramirez or Soriano? The Sosa man-love crowd is a weeeeird bunch. You know what's even weirder? People who only post in one thread, and that thread being about a player they can't stand. Obsess much? I missed the memo for posting in one thread only. Sorry about that. And would you qualify a post dedicated solely to a player who hasn't been on the team in two years as "obsessing"? Just curious. You know what would be great? If you would shut up and go back to desipio. this gig is old. "Go back to desipio".......?
