  1. Two words: Why bother? The perfect Cub move.....over the hill veteran on his last legs acquired after the worst stretch of Cubs baseball in recent memory. Shouldn't this trade have been made a while ago?
  2. But guys, we just won two straight from the Reds !!!!! Hey Hey, Holy Mackerel, No doubt about it.........
  3. There are ways around the salary cap in the NBA which is why the New York Knicks can have a team salary of $123 million. Dallas is second in the NBA at $96 million. I'm not sure on the rules but I know there are ways around it. The NFL has a strict salary cap and there is no way around it. I just don't see how the trib is the reason for the current crappy team outside of their support of andy MacPhail. it seems to me that they are more than willing to spend money, they just have an admin that spends it stupidly. I don't think their current payroll is the problem, its how they spent that money. Now if you want to say they should replace MacPhail because he hasn't replaced Hendry maybe i would agree, but generally when things go this bad the firing starts at the bottom and works its way up, so I guess I don't know any organization that would have removed MacPhail already. Besides I don't want to be the Yankees. I hate the Yankees. I wouldn't mind being the Yankees of '97 where alot of their players came from their farm team, but there is no way I would support a $200 million payroll team. and any such team that won the Series would certainly be a bitter sweet win for me. I have to disagree. The Trib has shareholders to answer to and as long as they can point to the Cubs as a money-maker, than they really have no reason to get rid of MacPhail because they are making money. Now if they were TRULY interested in a World Series winner, than MacPhail and his crew will be fired. Any owner interested in winning the World Series would have fired MacPhail after 11 years of failing to attain that goal. Even reaching the World Series. And who cares if the Cubs go the Yankee route to winning a title? Isn't 98 years of failure enough? I honestly don't know why anyone would be aganist Cuban buying the Cubs. The Trib have had 25 years and I think they have proved they don't know how to do it.
  4. At least our players look better. Actually, at first glance, Woody looks kind of whitetrashy. I could see him out in the front yard of the trailer, sitting on a couch, cap turned backwards with a sleevless T on sluggin back a Old Mil. The goatee, or whatever that is, also adds to the look.
  5. At this point, does it matter?
  6. Wow....Is that even worth a response?
  7. And how many rings is the great Dusty wearing? Thanks for playing.
  8. I just finished mowing in time to see the bottom of the 8th. I sat and thought should I stick around or go clean up? I really wish I would have stuck around to watch. This is too funny.
  9. Per the Score Hmmm, wonder which out of those two will end up getting more playing time? Stupid.
  10. The old "lipstick on a pig" saying comes to mind......
  11. If the Cubs were to start dealing, do you trust Hendry to acquire the right players in return? I say no.
  12. /quote] Get people healthy and make some moves this team will get back on top. No pressure rehab year for Wood, Prior and D. Lee oh yeah and Wade Miller. Scott, I have two questions for you. 1. Do you honestly feel that this current administration can make the proper moves to get the Cubs to the World Series? 2. Is it wise to bank on Wood and Prior for next years rotation?
  13. Hopefully, this ridiculous argument can now be put to rest. And throw in the "When we get Lee and Prior back......" one also. Thank you.
  14. Ditto. What a stud.
  15. As far as a "fire sale", I don't think Hendry would ever do it. It would reflect on him making big mistakes personnel wise and I can't imagine him admitting that.
  16. Hey CaliforniaRaisin....Sorry if this has been mentioned but does that baseball card give us a sign that "Wimpy" will be our next manager?
  17. My observations from last night was. Jones is hiting much better Am Ram is the king of solo home runs. He GIDP twice before the Solo shot. Dusty actually got Marshall out of the game to preserve some confidence he might have left only down 4 in the 4th. Cedano swings at the first pitch every time if it's even near the back stop. The Cubs look like they all have the Corey Patterson plague. They don't look confortable at all and don't look like they have a plan. During the White Sox game Hawk Harrelson was commenting on how you plan for a pitcher each game. If he is young and has control problems then you take a few and make him throw strikes. The Cubs coaching staff is teaching something other then that apporach from what I can see. I believe they teach swinging at certain zones. If the ball looks like it's in your 'zone' then you swing. It's the totally wrong apporach. But work for players like Barry Bond and Jeff Kent (ala, vereran player that have aunderstanding of baseball.) No wonder why the younger players struggle under the current make-up of the Cubs. The coaching staff coaches thinking the players have more basebal knowledge then they actually do. Again, "my favorite team sucks".
  18. I really saw something on that field last night. Something that made me think....."My favorite team sucks".
  19. If A.J. is "despised", what does that make Barrett? Oswalt, Dave Roberts and now the sucker punch. Say what you want about the Sox. They've got a ring. And I'd take Ozzie over Dusty any day of the week. And why did the Sox get "rewarded"? Let me think....because they earned it. Like every other team that wins the World Series.
  20. The extension is coming.......we as Cub fans will have do deal with it.
  21. Bingo!!!! Z needs to shut his piehole.
  22. Marlins 9 Cubs 1? Damn you Paul Sullivan!!!!! P.S. Think the Marlins would do a straight-up organizational trade with the Cubs? Right now? I mean like before tomorrow's game?
  23. Wow. I was stunned when I saw this. I just assumed that Barrett punching A.J. would snap the Cubs out of their funk. What a shocker.
