  1. Scott, my friend, let it go. It's over. You'll be a lot happier.
  2. Goony, as long as TribCo is in charge and the Cubs are making money, MacPhail isn't going anywhere and either is Hendry. Hendry, who assembled this mess, just got a contract extension. Your points justify the fact that Hendry, Baker, etc. should be fired. But the current ownership more than likely won't make the necessary personnel changes needed. And plus, why not look at the Twins, Yankees, Red Sox, Marlins as success stories not under corporate ownership? The entire comparison of franchises doesn't apply here anyway. The Cubs have set the standard for failure and no other team deserves to be mentioned in the same breath.
  3. And to answer the question of the thread: If fair is fair and Hendry gets an extension for assembling this mess, shouldn't Baker get his extension? I hope he doesn't, though. The Hendry extension was a big mistake.
  4. Ryan, I quit going 4 years ago. I really don't miss it like I thought I would. I guess the whole "Wrigley" mystique has worn off. I also quit buying the Tribune and cancelled my Chicago magazine when I found out the Trib published it. The question is, would you be preventing yourself from enjoying Cubs baseball or from enjoying Wrigley Field?
  5. What worries me the most is I don't think Hendry would consider this kind of drastic move. He strikes me as the type that doesn't like to admit a mistake has been made.
  6. I'm now at the point where I find the Cubs exceedingly bad, to the point of being funny.
  7. I feel Hendry has been living off of the fumes from the Lee/Ramirez trades. He constructed the current mess. And I'm still waiting for all the great FA's that will play for the Cubs because of Dusty. Not including Jacque Jones.
  8. Just think, the Cubs were five outs away from the World Series and have regressed to this point. And the GM gets an extension...........
  9. From what I remember the only person "who was afraid how he was going to do" was Baker. I have a feeling that Murton already knew what he was doing when he got here. Baker needs to stay out of his way.
  10. Wow, Hendry's record with minor leaguers is even crappier than I thought. And he gets an extension..........
  11. A payroll cut from the $95-100m range down to $80-85m would be worse. If you couple a payroll drop with the incompetent management team (which was just extended), it would get worse to the point it would take a few years to recover. They've already dropped to the 90 million range. The White Sox have a higher payroll, which I never thought I would see in my lifetime. And who's to say the new owner wouldn't clean house? And "it would take a few years to recover"? Recover from what? All those glory years the Cubs have provided us with? Zero for twenty five is a failure, plain and simple. Or am I the only one who thinks the Tribune reign has been a failure?
  12. Cubbie Rich, that's the best rumor/news I've heard all year. I hope your friend is right. Any word on who put the offer in? I'm curious if it was the local guy who wanted to buy them last time. I remember how happy I was when the Trib bought them. I thought there would be a couple of World Series titles by now. I was just a little bit off on that one. That's why I shake my head when I hear Cub fans say "it could be worse". I'm not sure what could be worse than zero titles in 25 years.
  13. Win, I'll give you credit. You are possibly the only Cub fan I know who justifies the Wood in relief decision. Even though you're wrong, you stick your guns.
  14. I'm wondering why everyone who suggested trading Wood in the presason was shouted down with "HE HAS A NO-TRADE CLAUSE!", but now it seems more and more are suggesting it with none of the same vitrolic response.
  15. And to everyone who couldn't make it to Peoria tonight, Woody will more than likely make another appearance this year.
  16. Are there really Cub fans that are shocked or suprised the Cubs are playing badly? I see the results and just kind of shrug my shoulders. This is in no way groundbreaking.
  17. http://www.theheckler.com/index.php?page=0000-DH-06-05-05&idrub=69&idsite=1&PHPSESSID=19be6dd23086f4ae726dd2c756b8dd41 enjoy.....
  18. I honestly don't know how any Cub fan could be angry or suprised. I'll just go by my thirty years of Cubfandom.: 84,89,93,03. No World Championships. That's it. In thirty years. I look at those four years as the exception, not the rule. Sure I think it would be great if the Cubs won it all, but '03 solidifed it for me. Hope for the best, expect the worst. What about when Wood and Prior come back? I look at them as projects. I expect nothing out of both and anything more is gravy. And one or both will more than likely be injured again. This is, after all, the only team in all professional sports to go this long without a title. The Cubs aren't exactly entering unknown territory with their bad play. Sure I'm tired of the same old crap, but hey, it's the Cubs. I quit buying their tickets 5 years ago.
  19. The ball was pronounced dead after splitting into 7 different pieces.
  20. http://www.suntimes.com/output/couch/cst-spt-greg03.html Enjoy
  21. This is a joke, right?
  22. Last year Rolen was ran over by Choi and was done for the year. The curse thing gets old. Sure it gets old but, how many starts did Carpenter and Mulder miss last season? Exactly the point. And how many starts did Wood and Prior miss last season? And the Cubs, once again, foolishly thought those two could be counted on. Sorry I guess I forgot about project 3: Wade Miller when you come up with a idea for suitable replacement pitchers and finding a taker for Kerry Wood and his salary, give Hendry a call, ok? When Hendry comes over and starts doing my job, then I'll do his.

  24. I just got home from work and I have a question I'm sure has already been asked: Why in the hell is Barrett not starting?
