he has a personal driver so that he doesn't drink and drive. if that's not a sign of a drinking problem, i don't know what is.

How much does he drink though? You don't have to be drunk to be over the legal limit.

If he's going out and getting plastered every single night, sure, he's probably got a drinking problem.

But if he's having a few beers per night, might be over the legal limit and doesn't want to risk a DUI, I don't think that's a drinking problem.

Actually being responsible enough to not put yourself in a position where you are going to drink and drive suggests the opposite of a drinking problem.

Seems almost commendable. Most drunks would likely continue driving regardless. They drive better with a few in 'em.

Difference being between what you're talking about and what is going on here is that the driver is assigned to him by the university at their request from what I understand. This wasn't Billy's idea, it was something the university decided would be a good idea to keep everybody out of hot water.

And it's just another contributing factor to what dew is talking about. I've heard exactly what he said, he just didn't play well with others when it came to fitting in to the Kentucky culture. And trust me, I can understand how he feels based on what I have to deal with because my company's corporate office is in Kentucky. It's just a little bit of a different culture if you're not from there and you don't quite get treated the same or trusted quite as much as those who aren't outsiders.

i think the important part of this is that the university hired someone specifically to drive him so that he doesn't get a dwi. when you have to have a designated driver on your payroll, there's something seriously, seriously wrong.

I lived in Lexington for about 9 months. Rough crowd if you're not from there and don't totally accept the culture 100%. (Kentucky basketball and horse racing) I got more cr*p for wearing a Cubs hat there than anywhere else.

Kentucky is about the worst place to try and make that "good ol boy from the great state of Texas" schtick fly.

Where was this Mizzou team at the IL/MU game in St. Louis back in December?

I'm still ticked I wasted my money going down there to watch a boring game that Illinois had sewn up in the first 5 minutes.

i don't know if gillispie has a drinking problem or not, but anytime a rich pro athlete gets a dui everyone says "why don't these idiots just hire a driver, it's not like they can't afford it."

that being said, he's a 47 year old who has never been married and apparently still goes out drinking and womanizing. that suggests some sort of problem, at least as far as who he is and how mature he is.

Not everyone has to get married. As long as he isn't hurting anyone else, who cares if he drinks everyday?

Since the discussion is happening here, I'll go ahead and post this here. Gillispie is officially out.

Florida's Billy Donovan, the leading candidate to take the job in 2007 before Gillispie was hired, will not be a candidate for any jobs that become open. Donovan was said to be strongly considering the job, a source close to the coach told ESPN.com's Pat Forde.

Bingo. We don't know how often he uses the personal driver. We don't know how often this driver has picked him up after he's gotten smashed at a bar, as opposed to how many times the driver picked him up from a nice restaurant after he had two glasses of wine with dinner. It's very easy to get a DUI these days, even if you have been drinking responsibly. Kentucky was smart for giving him a driver, considering the amount of bad publicity that could go along with Gillispie getting a DUI. I wouldn't be surprised if they continue this practice with the next coach.

If it turns out the guy goes out every night and gets plowed, then yeah, that would qualify as an alcohol problem. However, speculating on his alcoholism based on Kentucky assigning a driver to him seems like fumbling in the dark to me.

probably the employer that is paying him millions of dollars a year, since he's also a very public face for that employer.

and i know it's cool for people in their 20s to say "gettin drunk and gettin laid, what's wrong with that"... but if you're still living that life in your late 40s, you're kind of a creep.

I get why Kentucky would take issue with it, but personally don't care how he chooses to live his life. He wants to drink and chase skirt, it's his life.

Being married or not has nothing to do with that.

chase budinger is such a scrub. i don't get why people talk about him as a draft prospect at all. he's about half the college player that adam morrison was, and we all know how well that worked out.

people play up his athleticism, but what they really mean is that he's athletic for a white guy, which is still not athletic enough.

Chase can jump high, that's why they say he's athletic.

Some team is going to be disappointed after picking him, hopefully not the Bulls.
