Very interesting. I think Smith will end up in the top 10 due to talent, but 1 may be a bit too high. The Lions may take the risk, though.

reggiemiller rules and the Rams are now on the clock.

character issues and combine overreactions are what have players who kicked ass throughout college slipping to successful teams where fans of the other teams wonder "hey why didn't we take that guy?" Randy Moss and Terrell Suggs, for example.

Good point, and why I think he'll end up in the top 10. I don't dislike the pick at all, personally.

also, the last 10 #1 picks have combined for just 5 pro bowls between them. i think the stat was also that the last 20 #1 picks have combined for 29 total pro bowls, and Manning & Pace were 15 of them

This is tough I was going to pick Smith, but with him gone I think that the Rams choose

Aaron Curry LB from Wake Forest.

Great pick. They need defensive help and Curry's probably the best defensive player in the draft (or close to it).

Handlebar McSkullet and the Chiefs are now on the clock.

And I thought the wait was unbearable when there were 15 minutes between picks on TV, and I was forced to listen to Mel Kiper, Jr. and the ESPN crew ...

KC selects Brian Orakpo DE/OLB Texas

huh?

May I help you?

Without him being able to workout, being rated by most in the teens, and the fact Kansas City has so many holes they aren't likely to reach to fill one specific void having Orakpo go three seems like a reach to me. It's your team but I don't think Kansas City would take Orakpo over Maybin if they wanted a pass rusher.anyways but they are close so I could understand it. I'm just surprised with all the others top prospects out there Orakpo would go so high.

Most all the mock drafts I've seen have Orakpo going before Maybin. All of them having Orakpo just outside the top 10, but Maybin's lower - in the teens range generally.

I think Orakpo's a bit of a reach here, but the Chiefs desperately need talent and he's definitely got it. I'd say it's likely the new Pioli/Haley duo will swap to a 3-4 defense and Orakpo will fit in a DE spot or OLB in that scheme. Personally, I would have gone Stafford, but I'm a big fan of his.

Has anyone PM'd mhuber, by the way?

aaron maybin weighs like 150 pounds, he's nowhere near the 8th best player in this draft

Maybin 249 Orakpo 263.

That's a difference of 14 pounds. Obviously makes some difference but Maybin is far from a lightweight. Maybin is almost definitely a OLB that could play DE sparingly while Orakpo is just big enough to be a DE in a 4-3 but would probably need to be an OLB in a 3-4 because DE's in a 3-4 need to be more like a DT/DE hybrid.

So most pundits see a WR here but Crabtree is hugely overrated. Ruskell is someone who also goes talent before need or what the fans look for.

With the Mock here taking an odd turn already, Stafford looks like an interesting choice because Hass is already 34, but there will likely be at least 1 more year for him and a better value will be available later in the draft.

Seahawks choose:

OT Eugene Monroe - Virginia

Wow, first mock that I have ever seen with Crabtree not going to the Seahawks. I like Monroe but I think J. Smith is the best OL prospect in this draft.

Mike Aller / Cleveland is on the clock.

Bump.

I PMed Mike but he hasn't read his PMs.

I'm not a Crabtree fan, and I think Monroe is the best OT in the draft, and the 2nd best player available. (Curry 1st)

Ahh, I like Jason Smith a bit more. Definitely agree on Curry being the best player in the draft.

Why don't you like Crabtree? I think he's one of the top 5 prospects in the draft.
