This part of that article was weird

Holden Kushner asked him about Jake Peavy and how many questions he fielded about Peavy during the convention. Bush added that the media has really overplayed the Cubs desire to trade for Peavy and he's really not sure why.

Bush said, "There's nothing to the Peavy stuff. We like our pitching staff and lineup the way it is. Peavy is a member of the Padres." The Cubs are in the process of getting ready for Spring Training.

Well, remember, rumors that say the Cubs *are* getting Peavy go in the "credible" pile, rumors that say he aren't go in the "obviously lying or incompetent" pile.

Isn't this one of those "I can't legally comment on having a player that already belongs to another team because of collusion" things?

I believe so, but I'm always surprised by things that many people say (ahem, Kevin Towers)... so I'm not really confident on what the rules are.

Towers can say whatever he wants about Peavy. It's his player.

Towers mentions players of other teams by name all the time. I've heard writers call him "Tampering Towers"

Peavy trade is dead folks, the cubs traded olson and cedeno for Heilman. The key name is Olson, Olson is what the padres wanted and now we traded him to the Mariners. Wow Hendry has done a horrible job this offseason. Its on ESPN.com by the way.
Posted
Hendry must have gotten wind that Towers and the Padres were done shopping Peavy, either that or he agreed to go to the Angels, and we wouldnt have been able to match their package. Theres no way that this deal would have happened otherwise.
Posted
Just giving up Cedeno for Heilman would have been a good move to add depth, but throwing in Olson would leave us with little to no depth. Marshall would have to be in a deal now along with Hart, Stevens, Guzman (possibly), Ascanio, Archer or Wuertz and Vitters would probably be the only position player included.

I wonder if the Padres have interest in Heilman.

I doubt it, but I'm thinking that if this move may have been to free up Marshall if they value him more than Olson.

but olson is likely to be better than heilman. so just cut cedeno if it comes down to it, and keep the better player -- olson, for the swingman role.

I dont know how you come to the conclusion that Olson will be better than Heilman. Heilman has better stuff than olson. But anyways i guess the one positive you can take of this is that Levine was right weeks ago about Cedeno moving for Heilman. The only way i see this being related to peavy is if the cubs acquired heilman to set themselves up when they include Marshall in a trade for Peavy. Marshall in my opinion has more value than olson.

There was discussion about Lou not wanting to go into the season with only one backup IF. I would like to see Hairston included in a Peavy deal as our new jack-of-all-trades.

Or Wigginton. (Miles can backup at SS)

No, and I don't for one second believe

1) it

2) it means Peavy is as good as a Cub like the anonymous poster is tying to lead people into believing

I'm pretty sure he's referring to comments Towers has made about other team's players in the past.
