Yeah, but CC was dominating everyone else, and kept the pressure on the Cubs by beating just about everyone else he faced. I'm glad he's back in the AL.

The Yankees' new rotation is starting to take shape as they are also in serious negotiations with free-agent Derek Lowe. An agreement with Lowe appears likely to be finalized in coming days, as well. The sides were discussing a contract for four years and about $66 million late Tuesday.

Looks like Lowe could also be a Yankee within the next day, the Phillies wanted to sign Lowe and maybe missing out on him will maybe force them to pay a little more of Marquis' contract or send out an extra player/better quality.

I wonder whats next for Melly Melvin and the Brew Crew? With CC, and probably Lowe and Burnett out of the picture, they're either left risking it again with Sheets, or signing someone like Oliver Perez who wont begin to fill the voids of CC and Sheets. Their best bet is to move Fielder for a solid pitcher.

The Brewers weren't going to beat the Cubs for the division title with him, anyway, so I don't think this is a catastrophic loss. Getting Sheets would be nice, but once he goes down with an injury again they'll be right back to square one. They're better off finding a solid pitcher to fit into the middle of the rotation, and maybe a spare guy to fill in if someone gets injured. A Gallardo/Parra/Bush/Suppan/McClung rotation wouldn't be horrible (it wouldn't be much above average, either), so my guess is that Melvin kicks the tires on a couple of guys but doesn't do anything irresponsible, like giving Jon Garland $60 million or something. Now that he knows where he stands with payroll flexibility, he can go out and maybe sign Fuentes and continue to fill other holes through free agency.

Losing Sabathia stinks in the short term from the Brewers perspective, but in the long run it'll probably be worth it. And hey, Sabathia can opt out of New York after three years...I can always dream of getting him back someday.

Does anyone get the feeling Lowe = Kevin Brown. I don't know why I feel that way but I do.

Yep. I also see CC turning into a Mo Vaughn situation.

Kevin Brown? Mo Vaughn?

When the Mets got Vaughn he was 33 years old and was going to miss the entire next season due to injury. Sabathia is nothing like Vaughn.

Lowe is nothing like Kevin Brown either. Nothing. Kevin Brown was a washed up 38 year old with a history of arm trouble. Depending on the contract Lowe could be the best "deal" out there. I wish the Cubs would have gone after him.

Yankees will regret that contract much sooner than later. Nice to see they haven't learned. I still say the Red Sox and Blue Jays are the playoff teams in that division.

I wonder if the Brewers front office is feeling like they are waking up from a bender and hoping what they remember isn't true: Did we really give away *that* much for a rental on a playoff spot?

Unlike us, though, the Brewers farm system is loaded. LaPorta will be very good one day, but they've got plenty others in the minors that'll be good too.

Who do you think the Brewers traded to get Sabathia in the first place?

They traded LaPorta.

What I was saying is that the player they traded away (LaPorta) will be quite good one day, but some other players in their farm that they didn't trade will also be quite good, so the loss isn't quite as catostrophic for them as it would be for us.

Hence, the plenty others part?

It is a sad, sad day. My only hope is he hates NYC so much he uses that opt out.

why is it a sad sad day? of course they overpaid for him, but he's really good, durable (so far) and the yankees have a practically unlimited pay potential.
