Anyone know what the dimensions of the new ballpark are going to be? Gotta figure they will have a more friendly fence for RH hitters.

Same as old Yankee Stadium.

Off the books:

1) Giambi $22 million

2) Abreu $16 million

3) Mussina $11 million

4) Pavano $11 million

5) Farnsy $5.5million

6) Pettitte $16 million

= $81.5 million

$25M is what...$5M above market value. Financially who are they going to get to replace all these guys, even at $25M for CC they wont be anywhere near last years payroll.

The Yankees have a different set of books than everybody else. Its a good deal to them.

1:14pm: SI.com's Jon Heyman says the Yankees will also make offers to A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe within the next day or two.

FRIDAY, 10:27am: ESPN's Buster Olney says this initial Yankees offer will be in the $140-142MM range. By the way, the Giants have already touched base with Sabathia's agents.

Lowe, Burnett, and CC. Yanks aren't messing around.

That division is a heck of an arms race. If Tampa stays good it's going to be even more intense than it was last year.

Oooh, arms race.

I thought the Yankees were going to try to stay away from offering the world to free agents. Try to build more from within.

I don't think they wanted to add more payroll, but they lost a crapload off their books this year with Giambi, Abreu and others becoming FAs, so why not spend it?

And they do need pitching. I suppose, yea. I see $150million and I go "holy crap!"

Then I realize we gave almost that much to Soriano, and I go "holy crap!"

Bingo.

ESPN has the hot scoop...

LeBron thinks Yankees will have no problem luring CC

CLEVELAND -- LeBron James is convinced CC Sabathia will end up in pinstripes.

The Cleveland Cavaliers superstar and New York Yankees fan wants his favorite baseball team to land Sabathia, the top starting pitcher in this year's free-agent class.

The Yankees have formulated a proposal to Sabathia that would exceed Johan Santana's $137.5 million, six-year contract with the New York Mets both in total and average.

Asked before Cleveland's game against Utah on Saturday night if he thought the Yankees would win the Sabathia sweepstakes, James smiled and said, "We're gonna get him. Absolutely."

Hot off the presses, LeBron thinks Sabathia will sign with the Yankees.

I would say it's a slow news day, but let's be honest, ESPN creamed their jeans when they heard this

Brewers Could Offer C.C. Six Years

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 6 at 9:14am CST]

According to Newsday's Ken Davidoff, the Brewers might offer a six-year contract to C.C. Sabathia. Davidoff has a source who said the possible sixth year would bring the total value of the deal to about $110MM, still $30MM short of what the Yankees have offered, but $10MM more than Milwaukee's initial proposal. Jayson Stark first reported that the Brewers could offer a six-year $110MM deal Thursday.

Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News has a source of his own who doubts that Sabathia has serious suitors other than the Yankees and Brewers at this point. The source said to McCarron that a deal with the Giants is "not happening," and doubts that the Angels were ever involved.

Yesterday, Jon Heyman wrote that the free agent lefty received two offers from teams other than the Yankees and Brewers.

And the San Francisco Chronicle's Bruce Jenkins thinks that the Giants have a chance with Sabathia even if they can't compete dollar for dollar with the Yankees.

If this much is true, the Brewers could have a decent shot. Its clear at this point that if CC wanted to play for the Yanks, hed have signed by now, as nobody will match that offer. I know that the reason hes taking so long is that hes waiting for one of the Cali teams to match the offer, or at least come close, but if they dont, he could choose Milwaukee, as he enjoyed his time their, and was treated like royalty, where as with the Yankees, as soon as he has one non quality start he'll be booed out of town, and he could take a $30 million bath to be in a lower pressure environment, as long as the players union and his agent dont intervene.

If this does happen, we need to step it up for Peavy.

there's a lot of waiting going on. ESPN reported that CC is waiting to see if the Angels are signing Tex, and that Derek Lowe is waiting to see where CC goes and for how much.

I guess when you're making this much money a few million may not mean much, but I can't see leaving $30,000,000 on the table because I don't like NY. For that money, I would learn to love NY.

When cost of living is factored in, isn't the Brewers offer a lot closer than it seems?

I guess when you are a big time athlete you spend money all over the country, but it seems that it makes it a little better, no?

I really doubt CC would spend much of that $30M in additional living expenses in NY.

Don't forget Toronto. Second-best team in the division last season by pythagorean wins. I think they are being excessively overlooked this time around.

I can't imagine really being happier making $30 mil a year as opposed to $20+ mil a year to be honest. Once you're in that pay echelon, I'd rather go somewhere I liked instead.

That's you, Backtobanks. Me, personally, Peace of Mind is worth more to me then an additional $30 million over the life of the contract. There's a reason why CC is stalling the Yankees. Could he end up in New York, yes. But gut feeling is saying talking the Yanks offer would be the last option he would do. I believe he is waiting for a "home town team" to offer a competitive offer, one he would jump at. I honestly believe in this case, CC does not want to pitch in New York, but will if it comes down to that.

you would have to be a complete idiot to not only turn down the chance to play for the yankees, but to also turn down an extra $30 million

When you're dealing with that kind of money, you're really not oing to notice it that much. He wont anyway. His agent on the other hand...

As for playing for the Yankees, its a high pressure situation, and if you dont perform, you're going to hear about it, more so than any other team. Especially when they put that kind of money in it. Some guys prefer the small market team, be the big fish in a small pond so to speak.
