The Blue jays are going hard after Milton Bradley according to XM this morning.

Read someone today that Furcals agent will be in Chicago meeting with Soto who he also represents no word on if Furcals agent will meet with Hendry . Furcal has said he will cut his list of teams down to 3 next couples days.

According to another board Levine was just on ESPN 1000 and said Bradley is the only RF Hendry is looking at. Gotta love that .436 OBP and .999 OPS. His injury history is somewhat discouraging, but with our depth we could afford to have him play in only 120-130 games.

BTW, what board was this?

And consider me on board for Bradley. Even if he only play 110-120 games that would be alright since we have the felixibilty with DeRosa, Fontenot, Fukudome, etc.

I'd much much rather have 110 games of Bradley than 145 games of Ibanez or somebody like that.

The last time Milton Bradley played the field, he only played 61 games - that was 2007. In 2006, he played 96 games, mostly all in the field. In 2005, he played 75 games. Granted he played 126 last year, but that was as a DH for 94 games.

I don't know where you're getting that he could be healthy for 100+ games. It'd probably be more like 85-90. That's not worth upwards of $10 mil.

Not sure if this was posted yet or not, but this confirms that the Cubs have talked with Furcal's people and have shown some interest. Clearly seems like he is a down on the priority list, but it's always interesting to hear who we are talking to. From Rotoworld btw.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, the Cubs are interested in Rafael Furcal.

Furcal's agent confirmed the team's interest, but called talks "nothing serious" yet. "I think it will go according to how some things play out," agent Paul Kinzer said. "I know they have other needs to fill." The newspaper notes that by signing Furcal the Cubs would either shift Ryan Theriot to second base or look to trade him.

Hendry better not get Mark friggin Teahan to play RF..Thats not much of an upgrade over Kouske..We really need a legit Power hitter to fill that 5 spot..Bradley,Abreu,or Ibanez please.

I'd rule out Abreu at this point. The Yankees are offering him arbitration, thus making Abreu much less valuable.

NO NO NO!

I'm sure it's nothing but speculation, but still.

Other than DeRosa not being at 2B, what's so bad about this?

Anything to get him outta SS IMO.

I'm not expecting both to be on this team next year.

It depends if they are talking about a full-time starter or not. If the Cubs sign Furcal, they are very likely to not go after a RF. So that moves DeRosa to RF, which leaves Fontenot to play 2B. Fontenot's biggest problem is that he cannot hit left-handers, and sliding Theriot over to 2nd in a platoon with him handles that situation nicely. That leaves the lineup as:

Against right-handers: Soriano, Furcal, Lee, Ramirez, Soto, DeRosa, Fontenot, Fukudome

Against left-handers: Soriano, Furcal, Lee, Ramirez, Soto, DeRosa, Johnson, Theriot

I doubt that happens, but mostly because I doubt the Cubs are unhappy enough with SS to spend big money on Furcal.

If the Cubs really are targeting all these guys through trades, then I don't see how it's possible 1 of them doesn't get moved.

If Soriano ever leads-off with Furcal on board I'd shoot my left nut.

Be realistic Theriot hit over 300 in almost 150 games last year, there's no way he loses his starting job this offseason. He will either be starting with the Cubs, or traded to another team to start. So most likely if the Cubs actually do get Furcal, Theriot will most likely be at 2b almost everyday.

What's everyone's preference between Hermida and Bradley? I think I'd have to opt for Hermida.

Hermida.

Without a doubt Hermida. I don't want to pay Bradley megabucks to sit on the bench with injuries.

It's not like Hermida hasn't had his own durability issues either.

Hermida played 265 games the past two seasons. Bradley hasn't played 100 games in the field in a season since 2004.

"Durability issues" don't begin to convey the issues with Bradley.

According to Larry LaRue of the Tacoma News Tribune, the Cubs, Mets, and Phillies talked to Raul Ibanez's agent this week. Those three clubs remain high on him. LaRue says the Mariners fielded a call from Ibanez's agent, but he's unlikely to sign because he wants to win and does not want to be a designated hitter.

Another reason to let Ibanez leave is his Type A status. He's highly unlikely to accept an offer of arbitration, and the Mets, Phillies, and Cubs all have unprotected first-round picks.

Bobby Abreu-OF- Yankees Dec. 1 - 2:55 pm et

Concerned about what the economy will do to the free agent market, the Yankees are considering not offering arbitration to Bobby Abreu prior to tonight's deadline.

It's hard to imagine they wouldn't at least gamble on Abreu, especially given that they've already decided not to offer arbitation to fellow free agents Andy Pettitte, Jason Giambi, Ivan Rodriguez, Sidney Ponson, Carl Pavano and Chad Moeller. The two draft picks they'd get if Abreu leaves would be their only extra selections, and they're probably going to lose their own first-round pick when they sign a starting pitcher.

Agent: Four teams interested in signing Furcal

By Jayson Stark

ESPN.com

(Archive)

Furcal's agent, Paul Kinzer, told ESPN.com Monday that he has previously scheduled business to attend to outside the United States this week, so "I don't see anything happening before the winter meetings."

The A's and Giants have actively pursued Furcal over the last couple of weeks. But another reason Furcal is in no hurry to sign is that two other clubs have interest, but only if they make another trade.

One is known to be the Braves, although Kinzer would not confirm that. The Braves would pick up their efforts to sign Furcal only if they include shortstop Yunel Escobar in another deal. Escobar would be part of any Atlanta package for Jake Peavy. And the Cardinals and Royals also have expressed interest.

Kinzer would not identify the fourth team in the Furcal hunt. But indications are that neither the Cubs nor Furcal's old team, the Dodgers, are currently in the mix. Executives from two other teams nominated the Red Sox and Orioles as possible matches.

Kinzer declined comment, other than to say: "There are a few situations right now that will play themselves out either before the winter meetings or at the winter meetings. And that will give us a clearer picture of what's going on."
