The Blue jays are going hard after Milton Bradley according to XM this morning.

Read someone today that Furcals agent will be in Chicago meeting with Soto who he also represents no word on if Furcals agent will meet with Hendry . Furcal has said he will cut his list of teams down to 3 next couples days.

According to another board Levine was just on ESPN 1000 and said Bradley is the only RF Hendry is looking at. Gotta love that .436 OBP and .999 OPS. His injury history is somewhat discouraging, but with our depth we could afford to have him play in only 120-130 games.

BTW, what board was this?

And consider me on board for Bradley. Even if he only play 110-120 games that would be alright since we have the felixibilty with DeRosa, Fontenot, Fukudome, etc.

I'd much much rather have 110 games of Bradley than 145 games of Ibanez or somebody like that.

I wonder what type of contract Bradley is looking for. Even though he had a very good year last season, his poor healthy history is going to stop him from getting a huge deal.

He's the "only" RF he's looking at? I find that extremely hard to believe.

"Hendry is now looking solely at Milton Bradley for right field! Says he is the best mix of great offensive potential and a pretty reliable glove." That's what was on the board.

What's everyone's preference between Hermida and Bradley? I think I'd have to opt for Hermida.

Bradley. Much more of a sure thing, offensively. No talent sacrificed to acquire him in trade. No draft pick lost.

$33/3?

I don't know. Toronto has been big on getting Bradley, and you gotta think if they lose Burnett they will have some money to spend. They could start a bidding war. They are more lenient on battery in Canada, so there's another factor.

But seriously, Toronto has made Bradley their number 1 priority, they have money to spend, they have a DH spot to offer him to lessen injury risk. It will be hard to pull him away from them unless he really loves Chicago or really hates Toronto.

I would guess around that maybe a team comes in a gives him a 4th year or 12-13 per year, but I would guess he would get 3 guaranteed years at the max with options for a 4th or 5th year. I wouldn't mind the Cubs signing him to just a two year deal but for more money like 2@22-25 with a 3rd year option.

I would think Bradley would take less to stay in the states and play for a winner.

I can see teams offering Bradley two years, and possibly three years. Playing only in 75,96, and 61 games before last year is gonna scare a ton of teams off of long term deals. Especially when Bradley DH a good amount of last season. Not to mention Bradley isn't known for being a very nice guy. Bradley signed a 1y 5.2m deal last offseason. I wonder if the Cubs could get him at 2y 18-20m? I guess it depends on how much the Blue Jays and other teams are willing to offer him. Edited by cubsfan26

FWIW, the Prosportsdaily people are claiming they heard it too.

So did Levine say Bradley was the only person Hendry was looking at for RF, or Badley is the only right fielder Hendry is looking at. If it is the 2nd one, that really only eliminates Abreu. Ibanez is a left fielder Hendry could be looking at to play right field. They also could fill RF by signing Furcal and moving DeRo to RF and Theriot to 2b.

From everything I heard this offseason is the Cubs are looking for a LH power bat. So I don't think they have alot of interest in Furcal or even Brian Roberts.

There have been a few reports about a "traditional leadoff hitter" like Furcal or Roberts, too.

It doesn't really matter though, all I am saying is that this Levine report doesn't necessarily mean we are focused on Bradley, so much as it means we are looking at guys who didn't play RF last season to fill RF for us.

I don't think they've ever said power bat. Every quote from Hendry and Lou has been "left handed athletic guy"

I think there looking for a guy to hit towards the middle of the order, from most articles and things I heard on the radio. Thats why we keep hearing names like Hermida, Ibanez, Abreu and Bradley for RF. Piniella said we need to add some LH hitting, get younger and more athletic though. But Hendry only has so many options he can pick from.

Has Barry Bonds officially retired? Maybe he can play right field!

At this point, he can't even play LF much less RF. If he can get a job in 2009, which seems unlikely, it would be with an AL team and strictly as a DH.

DO IT JIM!!! PLEASE! Make my day. Bradley, Furcal and Peavy are the guys that I want and I can live without Peavy if we can somehow get the other two :)

You guys do realize that there are OTHER teams in the MLB as well don't you? The Cubs can't sign EVERY FA and trade for EVERY All-star. The Cubs are NOT gonna sign Rafael Furcal. He is a lot of teams' top priority, whereas he is our #4 or so priority. The most we'll do is sign a RF and trade for Peavy, and that is more than enough. The main focus right now should be trying to find a 3rd team to get Peavy to Chicago, and also look for a FA RF. I think Peavy is a real possibility, but I feel like since it hasn't been completed yet I only give it a 40% chance of happening. I would love to have Milton Bradley in RF. He is the best RF FA by far. Look at those numbers, they are ridiculous. And he can take a day off a week and start Fontenot. BUT I don't think the Cubs are gonna offer him enough because of his baggage (injuries/attitude). He won't pick the Cubs over a team like the Blue Jays whom I'm guessing since he will be their main priority will offer them a way bigger contract. Call me pessimistic but I don't see us getting Furcal or Bradley. Let's pray for Peavy though!

It should take less to get him here anyway just because of the tax situation in Canada. I'm not sure what the exact number is, but you pay something like 8-10% more in taxes up there than you would here.

Don't Bradley's injury troubles mainly deal with his legs? Would Toronto's artificial surface really be a good idea for him? I guess that is partly negated due to the fact that he'll be DHing most of the time, but I would think if we can match Toronto's offer...the Cubs offer him a chance to play on natural grass, a chance to play on a team that will likely be in the playoff race every year of his contract, etc. I'd think we'd have a pretty big advantage assuming money is equal.
