This is exactly what I've been saying from the start. Everyone is like "Oh Hendry has leverage, Peavy only will come to the Cubs, wait it out Jim." While I kept saying "no this is stupid, right now Peavy only wants to come to the Cubs, but if Hendry waits too long and backs out then Peavy will start to reconsider other places, and SD will reconsider other teams and a bunch of other teams will jump in like ANA and offer way better players than we are, and get Peavy." And thats what will happen here. The Angels will offer SD a huge package of young guys, and SD will love it and beg Peavy to go there, and he will just to get off that team.

If there was an 8 for 1 deal and the players were Vitters, Pie, Hart, Guzman, Marshall, DeRosa, Marquis and Cedeno all for Peavy, I would still do it in a second. I basically have given up on Pie. All he has is "tools." Meaning he is fast, can hit for power if he hits it, and can catch the ball. That doesn't make someone a good player. Hart hasn't impressed me at all, Guzman is never healthy, Marshall can be replaced by anyone. If Harden goes down then we can put Samardzija in the rotation, Gaudin, or call up a guy from the minors or go sign someone or make a trade. DeRosa is good, but its his last year with us, and Fontenot wont be a big downgrade. Cedeno is awful and will never be good, Marquis is terrible, and Vitters is the only one who "can" be good. So lets trade him before no one thinks highly of him anymore. I really would do that trade in a second.

If he could turn DeRosa into Hermida, that'd be a great trade. Could happen, depending on a few things. So now we're willing to trade DeRosa to get Hermida but not Peavy. So if we make that trade, then we end up trading DeRosa like we don't want to do, we get our RF in Hermida, but no Peavy. Whereas if we trade DeRosa in a deal for Peavy and then sign Milton Bradley whom right now is better than Hermida, aren't we looking way better?? With so many LH RF options out there in FA, I think our best bet is to sign one of them and trade for the pitcher we need. Instead of leaving our rotation as is and trading our starting 2B for a RF.

That's why you get a player like Rich Aurilia to platoon with him against lefties. Or you sign Furcal and have Theriot platoon with him. Either way, I don't care what the problem is... deal with it AFTER you get Peavy.

DeRosa did great at the middle to end of last season. But he wasn't that great at the beginning or the previous season. I think Fontenot can slip right in and we wouldn't even notice a big of a difference. But in the case of the roation. I think peavy over Marquis is a pretty big difference. You're basically adding another #1 while subtracting a #5. I hope this Marquis to the Mets stuff is true. Then we can go back to the Peavy stuff.

So say the deal was the Cubs giving up Vitters, DeRosa, Pie, Hart, and Marquis (while eating 5 million), you guys wouldn't do that to get Peavy??? This deal would basically even out in terms of money. And we're rumored to have about 10-15 million to spend. So we'd still be able to get Bradley. So by not doing this trade our team is going to be something like this: Assuming we get Bradley either way. 1) Soriano LF 2) Bradley RF 3) Lee 1B 4) Aramis 3B 5) Soto C 6) DeRosa 2B 7) Fukudome CF 8) Theriot SS Zambrano, Dempster, Harden, Lilly, Marquis Instead of (which will cost the same amount of money): 1) Soriano LF 2) Bradley RF 3) Lee 1B 4) Aramis 3B 5) Soto C 6) Fontenot 2B 7) Theriot SS 8) Fukudome CF Peavy, Zambrano, Dempster, Harden, Lilly So basically it is Fontenot and Peavy or DeRosa and Marquis. I choose Peavy. If that of course was the deal on the table.... Oh yeah, and we lose Vitters, Pie, and Hart.... Vitters of course being the only one who might turn out to be good.

Yes I am DeuceBaseman, and I pleaded to get my name back, but they won't have any of it. And apparently I just got warned for being mean. And I don't believe everyone should slide into 1st. All I'm saying is that from the naked eye, I thought sliding feet first looked faster than running through the bag. So I conducted a study in college and based on my sample size and my study, I concluded that it was faster to slide feet first. Do I think it's more dangerous? Not necessarily, unless you don't know how to slide or you slide too early or late. But people step wrong on the bag all the time and hurt themselves. But we're not talking about that here. We're talking about Peavy, and how I think its very bad that we backed out of the deal. You gotta give up something to get something. And if Vitters, DeRosa, Hart, and Pie are too much for a top 3 pitcher in all of baseball, then I would never trade a player. I just really wish we could hear all the details of this deal, but unfortunately we probably never will since Hendry can't talk about other teams' players. I still hope we trade Marquis, sign Bradley, and revisit talks with SD.

How am I a troll? I've been a member here for years. I used to go under DeuceBaseman but I got banned last year arquing with you idiots about how you guys thought Cedeno was better than Theriot and you guys thought Roberts wasnt worth Pie.

Didn't we have like the best offense in the NL last year, or at least close to the best? Who cares what we need. We need a RF and 1 more SP. I'd rather have Reed Johnson in RF and Peavy then Milton Bradley and Marquis.

All they wanted was Vitters and Derosa. How is that wrong??? You calling Hart and Pie something?? How am I embarassing myself??? Cuz I'm the only one here pissed that we didn't get Jake Peavy?

And what did your "analysis" conclude for you?

I don't understand how you guys don't even care about this? You guys posted every second on here for like 5 straight days in anticipation of getting Peavy. And now that Hendry turns down this great deal for us, everyone is just like "oh well, lets go get Raul Ibanez." Are you kidding me?? Who would you rather have, Marquis and DeRosa or Peavy and Fontenot?? Thats the question Hendry should be asked. He better have something up his sleeve. He better trade Marquis in a separate deal to save a lot of money, then try and get back in this Peavy stuff.

I understand that not getting Peavy isn't the end of the world, but we had him! We could have had him for nothing! Opportunities like this do not come up very often. He wanted to come to CHI, Towers needed to trade him. All they wanted was Vitters and DeRosa! It was that easy. Hendry screwed this up. And all the little reports about it being inevitable just make it worse. Because everyone in the world knew how easy of a deal this would be for the Cubs, and it was a no brainer, that is why everyone said it was inevitable, because no team in their right mind would turn this deal down.... oh wait, the cubs did!

I was being dead serious! I'm so mad right now. Who cares if we dont know ALL the details. We know that Soto, Lee, Aramis, Soriano, and Marmol or any of our other SPs weren't in the deal. If that is the case, then everyone else should be fair game! Hendry is just trying to gain leverage, but it will backfire and Peavy will stay put or go to ATL, ANA, or NYY. Hendry is a moron. DeRosa?? Peavy is only 3 more wins than Marquis??? According to what? That stupid system?? I say hes 10 more wins, easily. He could easily go 20-3 for us. Marquis is probably not even a .500 pitcher. I hate this. I thought this was a "done deal?" But oh wait..... the Twins want to give us Boof Bonsor for DeRosa!!! So lets back out of getting Peavy cuz we want Boof!!!
