Well, here we are, boys. We've waited since Opening Day for this. In some aspects, we've been waiting for this team all our lives. It was a hell of a regular season with a ton of memorable moments, but none of that counts anymore. Right now, the magic number is 11, and if the Cubs reduce that to zero, we'll all go on the biggest benders of our lives, and tell our grandchildren about it (the Cubs winning, that is. Not the benders.)

For Game 1 in the beautiful monument to all things right and good, Wrigley Field, the Cubs throw Ryan Dempster

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6006.jpg

17-6, 2.96 ERA, 1.21 WHIP

Opposing the Cubs will be Derek Lowe

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/5801.jpg

14-11, 3.24 ERA, 1.14 WHIP

I've got nothing against Derek Lowe, but I hope the Cubs beat him like a rented mule.

I get chills thinking about the 2003 NLCS, hearing an entire stadium, and even the crowd out on Waveland Ave singing "Go Cubs Go" and I want to hear that again this year.

Let's get it done, boys. Let's beat these guys!

Lord. How am I gonna make it to Wednesday?

At least I get to watch it...I get home from work by 6, giving me a half hour before the game starts.

This will suck. At least there are a dozen or so Dodger fans in the office too, I'm gonna see if a bunch of us can bail out early. I really don't want to be caught in rush hour traffic, listening to the last few innings of this one.
Posted
already physically sick to my stomach in nervousness.

Oh God, me too.

I don't know if I'll be able to make it until Wednesday.

Game 1 will be like Z's no-hitter from the 8th inning on. I'll be hanging on every single pitch. Only it'll be about 10 times worse. And I won't be sort of rooting for the Cubs to have a quick offensive inning so Z can get back out there. The bats can take all the time they want to in October.

Sweet, I have seats in the lustful section of the ballpark. 8-)

I'll have a Davis High football preview to write on Wednesday for Thursday's paper and will have to call a couple coaches but I can do that from home, or at least wait and go into the office after the game is over.

I'm off on Thursday, though.

GO CUBS!! Let's trim into that magic number right away.

Posted

Wednesday night I have to work at 7pm (eastern), and will need to be out of the house around 620. I'm really not happy with my job right now. It's going to suck working all night and waiting until 5am to watch this on DVR, then repeating the process the next night.

PLEASE win this game

I'll get us started with the hot chicks. We need a lot of them.

Bianca Beauchamp? Talk about starting with the A-game.

What? Baseball? Right. Go Cubs.

Just walk Manny every time. 2 outs and nobody on? Walk his ass. 1 out and nobody on? Walk his ass. Men at 1st and 2nd with 2 outs? Walk his ass.

Seriously, Lou can't let Manny beat us. After him they have a bunch of good-but-not-great .800ish OPS hitters and they're all young and inexperienced. Put the pressure on them and make them beat us.

I'm down with this idea, but you know what's another keen idea........how about constantly be up by 4 or more runs every time Manny is up.

Just don't give Manny anything to hit, and you should be fine, Cubs.

PLEASE don't let him kill you like you let Pudge kill you in 2003.

When in doubt, WALK HIM!!

You mean like pitching him in a spot he wants you to and exploits nearly every time, and you can't seem to figure out why he keeps getting hit after hit?

Yeah, none of that again, please.

Posted
I know it's stating the obvious but i love our chances if we can win game 1. I don't see how we do not progress if we beat Lowe and follow that with Z,Harden. Having said that there are 2 things i don't think i can handle losing in a sweep and a game 5!!! Go cubs finish them!!!!

Man, the Dodgers own Demp, but that was the old Demp...

any guesses at our lineup?

Soriano

Theriot

Lee

Ramirez

Edmonds

Soto

DeRosa

Fukudome

Dempster

I'm going to guess Fontenot gets the game 1 start.

Soriano

Fontenot

Lee

Ramirez

Edmonds

Soto

Derosa

Theriot

I'd guess the Dodgers will trot out

Furcal

Martin

MRamirez

Kent

Ethier

Kemp

Loney

Blake

Really hard to tell w/ LA, because their likely starters haven't played together this year thanks to Furcal's injury and the Blake and Ramirez additions.
