I can't believe I'm going to a playoff game at Wrigley Field tomorrow.

This might be the longest 33 hours of my life.

Good news. According to centsports, the Dodgers should be at a huge disadvantage on Wednesday. Why, you ask? Well, apparently they're playing two games on Wednesday, the first of which is against the Reds in LA at 3 p.m. ET and then the Cubs at 6:35 p.m. ET in Chicago.

They're going to have to forfeit one of the games...

I can't believe I have a paper due Thursday and therefore cannot use the tickets that I have for tomorrow's playoff game.

Yeah, I hate all of you.

That better be one important paper.

Look on the bright side - you could make some serious cash.

I bought 2 tickets to the 200 level behind the third base dugout (215) at face value (40 a piece) and sold them on ebay for $400. You can make some serious bank off those.

Or you could pull an all nighter and do the damn paper tonight. Whats a little lack of sleep compared to a playoff game?

I was reading some Dodgers blog, and one sentence jumped out at me:

They may not have heard of Corey Wade but he has been every bit as effective as Carlos Marmol.

Corey Wade?

Honestly, I hadn't heard much about him. I looked up his stats. They are pretty good:

55 G

71.1 IP

51 H

15 BB

51 K

18 ER

2.27 ERA

0.93 WHIP

Pretty damn good. Now look at his splits:

vs. RHB - .194 .266 .340 .606

vs. LHB - .211 .243 .312 .555

Home - 1.72 ERA

Away - 2.86 ERA

Impressive. But is he as effective as Marmol? Let's compare...

82 G

87.1 IP

40 H

41 BB

114 K

26 ER

2.68 ERA

0.93 WHIP

vs. RHB - .098 .215 .165 .379

vs. LHB - .182 .297 .371 .668

Home - 1.61 ERA

Away - 4.14 ERA

I've bolded the important stats. In 16 more innings, Marmol has allowed 11 less hits. The issue is of course walks. Marmol walks a lot of guys, Wade does not. But Marmol counters his control issues by striking out an amazing amount of hitters, limiting the damage they do. Against RHB, Marmol is likely the best reliever in baseball. His line against lefties isn't too shabby either.

I didn't realize that Marmol had such extreme H/R splits. Considering that ballpark conditions at Wrigley are not extreme, and likely closer to neutral, I'm willing to bet its a fluke.

Last year at the Cubs playoff game I wore a t-shirt and shorts. This year I'll probably wear long underwear and a sweat shirt. I'm smart enough to know when it goes below 60 at Wrigley, it feels like winter with the wind.

3 out of his 4 worst performances this season were on the road.

6/2 @ SD: 1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO, 1 HR.

6/19 @ TB: 0 IP, 0 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 SO, 0 HR.

7/2 @ SF: 1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 1 HR.

His one bad performance at Wrigley, Rich Harden's first game (which looked "better" ERA-wise after a scoring change...haha):

7/12 vs. SF: 1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 1 BB.

Wade has been very effective all season for the Dodgers.

Hong-Chih Kuo not being able to pitch is big.

Lowe's last 5 road starts:

29.1 IP

4 ER

20 H

3 BB

3-1

1.23 ERA

0.74 WHIP

Granted the teams he faced are the Nationals, DBacks, Pirates, Padres and Giants. All I'm saying is that don't expect Lowe to crap the bed tomorrow just because he's on the road. With temps falling to the low 50's and the wind likely blowing in, he could have very favorable conditions.

The wind blowing in is a blessing. Lowe is a sinkerballer and I would be more concerned if the wind was blowing out.

True. It helps Demp way more than it helps Lowe

dempster is the MVP of this team...i don't think any cubs fan can honestly say they predicted him to perform like he has this season...i certainly didn't...

we need dempster to step up to one more level, and considering what he has done already...i am quite confident that he will do it again tomorrow evening...

fear the canadian...fear the dempster

Not worthy of its own thread but:

Have you heard? The Cubs haven't been to the World Series since 1908. I know, I'm tired of hearing about it, too.

No, I haven't heard that Carol. That is interesting.
