Well, we went 20-8 with Z contributing next to nothing in August, so there is a lot of truth to us being able to win without him. However, we go from a dominant team to a very good one without him.

The thought of Ted Lilly serving up gopher balls in game 3 of a series scare me. We'll just have to wait until tomorrow and see what the deal is.

We probably won't know tomorrow.

He's going in the morning, so I think we'll at least have something preliminary on what is wrong.

Who said he's going in the morning?

Lou said he's going tomorrow and being that's it's a night game, you'd have to figure he is going early tomorrow.

Why? It's not like

A) Zambrano has to be at the game

and

B) He couldn't go in the afternoon and still get to the park in plenty of time

He could but I think he'll want to get this examined asap. I don't think Z, or the Cubs will want to wait until the afternoon. It's just a hunch.

They can manage without Big Z as long as Lou shakes up that batting order some. I mean really shake it up. Try DeRosa in the 3 hole, and get D Lee out of there. I love D Lee, but the man is a walking double play and he can't handle pressure at the plate this year. He looked silly tonight. Him and Aramais both need some time off.

As soon as Big Z left with the sore arm their bats went dead again. They need to pull themselves together again. Big Z may just need to rest that arm some, as he has probably just been overcompensating. I hope so at least.

How did Lee look silly tonight? He was 2-5 with a walk and the double play was just bad luck. He hammered that ball. He should have been trying to get it in the air, but still, it's not like he reached out and guided it weakly to the shortstop like he usually does.

Oh, and they scored 4 runs after Zambrano left the game.

All I care about with Z is that he's ready for the playoffs. As long as he's not out for the season, I'll be happy.

Same.

Soreness sounds better than saying he felt a twinge or a pop or something, that's for sure.

But I'm still going to be on edge until we hear something.

Players leave games every day with random soreness. More pften than not, maybe they miss a few games. The good thing about it being a pitcher is he has 4 scheduled days of rest anyway. Arm soreness better than shoulder soreness.

Also, as Dexter said, if he misses the remainder of the regular season, no big deal. Unless 2 other WC contender go on an insane tear, we really only need to win 10 more games if that, and we have 5 other pitchers who are well capable of that. Granted, 3 of them are a lot more capable than the othe2, but I like the odds.

Lilly has had a nice 2nd half of the season. I think he has something like a 1.19 WHIP in his last 9 starts. He should be more than adequate as a #3 in a playoff rotation, especially if given the NL's #1 offense and maybe best bullpen.

Losing Z would obviously hurt, but it merely drops the Cubs from a phenomenal rotation to a very good one.

The thing is that Lee has been hitting ground balls at people for a long time already. His inability to drive the ball on a consistent basis is a reason for his movement out of the 3 hole. That spot in the lineup, as shown yesterday is one where you are expected to drive the ball or hit it in the air at times and with his inability to do so anymore, Lee should not be moved somewhere else in the lineup. He simply is not the run producer that he once was. Derosa and Soto have driven in more runs from spots in the lineup that are less conducive to collecting RBI. Part of the reason for Aramis' tear this year has been Lee missing out on RBI as well.

Right arm soreness was exactly what I was thinking. Definitely not panic time.

Asuming that it is nothing, my suggestion would be to have Z and Harden share a rotation spot throughout the rest of September, with Demp, Lilly, Marquis, and Marshall filling it out.

Again, the last problem was a shoulder problem, and I have yet to hear the word shoulder mentioned.

It's actually, Dr. Gryzlo.

Let's hope Z got the name right and isn't off to Wallyworld.

This team has done very well with all the injuries they've had and guys have been picking up other guys all year. 15 days off might be the best thing for Z for this year and his career.

Agree. And that was not a good pitch that he swung at. There was a struggling pitcher on the mound and the count was 2-1, IIRC. The pitch was way inside. He should be looking for a pitch he can put in the air to bring in the go ahead run. Terrible at bat and this is happening way too often with DLee this season. I don't want him benched, just moved down in the order.
