It's one of two things...

Z feels find and doesn't want the test because he'd miss a couple of starts.

Z doesn't feel fine and doesn't want the to take the test because he doesn't want the test to reveal anything that would keep him out of the playoffs.

I can see Z gutting out any injury for the playoffs. You'd have to rip off Z right arm to miss the playoffs...

The fact that Zambrano took himself out of the game makes me worry that it might be the second one. I can't imagine Z asking out of the game for something minor.

Man Z is hard headed. I don't care if a test showed his shoulder in perfect condition. I still don't want him making his next two starts.

It's funny, but that injection just might save our asses in the postseason. Anything to make Big Z rest for a few weeks.

Chris Deluca (Sun-Times) is on the Score and he's saying he talked to a few people close to the situation and they all told him the reason Zambrano missed the MRI is because he had a personal matter to attend to, and that he promised he'd take it today. Thos goes along with what ESPN reported, so I'm going to believe that over this Jesse Rogers guy who keeps changing his story.

Constrasting this news from 670 with the tone of the Tribune article, wow. I don't know what to believe, but I know what I want to believe.

Z doesn't pitch until the NLDS. I don't know why that's so hard to understand. If we only win the Wild Card, fine. I mean, does it really matter?

Yeah, he might not have necessarily expected to get it done right then and had something more important to do, and figured what's one more day, he's in a holding pattern anyway as far as pitching goes.

Jesse Rogers is supposed to be on at 7:45. I'm kind of curious where his story stands...My big problem with all this is if Zambrano had some personal matters to attend to and said he would take the test today, why the hell wasn't Lou told. Lou was left hanging in the wind on this one. Something doesn't add up. It makes it sound like the "personal matters and getting the test done on Thursday" was put together to protect Zambrano. If Lou knew this story you would think he would have just said this, which makes me think it's a BS stroy or someone in the press relations department really dropped the ball. I hate that they left Lou hanging to preserve Zambrano's supposed story. Who knows, and I actually don't really care as long as he gets the test done.

I asked this before: How serious is Rich Hills injury? Is it legit, or was it more of a giving up on the season type of thing. This would be a great oportunity at redemption for him.

Yeah, that sounds like a terrible idea.

This show is terrible. They aren't even asking Rogers why Deluca had a completely different story than what he said. Isn't it kind of relevant that each of your guests had a completely different story?

What was different about their stories? I forget what Deluca said.

Deluca (and ESPN) says that he missed the MRI because of a personal matter he had to tend to. Rogers says it's because he doesn't want the injection. I can't believe the hosts didn't ask him why Deluca had completely different info. Kind of a big difference between those 2 stories.

MLB Injury Report:

Hill brought up to go on 15-day DL: The Cubs added Rich Hill (back) to the roster and placed him on the 15-day DL on Monday.

(Updated 09/02/2008).

Injury Report

Back - 15-day DL. Out for the season

(Updated - 9/2/08)

Even if Hill were healthy at this point, I would have more confidence in Marshall, Marquis, or Guzman to start over him.

I'm starting to think it's a combination of both stories. Z didn't want to get the MRI done at first, but had some personal matters to attend to after his doctor visit, and after thinking about it, decided to get the test done today. :banghead:

Why the hell did hey bring him up if hes out for the season and not put him on the 60 day?

They put him on the 40 man roster. Something about protecting their rights to him. It's one of those "years of service", waiver wire, call ups things that I very rarely understand. All I know is the Cubs wanted him on their 40 man roster for some reason. They had to do something similar with Guzman while he was in the minors too. All this DL and roster standing stuff is confusing as hell.

I think it has to do more with playoff roster spots.

Yeah, there was an article the other day regarding the possibility of David Price being added to the Rays' playoff roster even though he hasn't been called up yet. If you have a guy on your playoff roster who's disabled, you can replace him with anyone, regardless of whether they were up before roster expansion.

They said on the Score 670 that Big Z didn't want to take the injection the MRI requires because it would shelve him for two starts. Does an injection from an MRI cause stiffness or discomfort? Supposedly the treatment needs time to wear off for 10 days or so.

If they are doing an arthrogram, they have to inject dye directly into the joint. I had one done earlier this year, and there was increased discomfort for about a week. I'm sure it's different for everyone, but at a minimum, they would probably have him miss two starts as a precaution following that procedure.

Thanks for the info. I heard them talking about the procedure later on the radio. I'm praying there's nothing seriously wrong and he gets some rest for a few weeks. Remember last time he sat out for a few starts and came back with that great game against the Cardinals on July 4th, and followed it up with some great starts. After this is all said and done it might be a blessing in disguise getting extra rest. A fresh Zambrano for the playoffs is a good thing. I'm trying to be optimistic here. :beg:

Well, yeah, the HFA would make a big difference if we won the division compared to the Wild Card.

Also, I would hope that if Z skips some starts, he makes one last regular season start in New York just to prepare him for the NLDS. I don't know if I want his first start back, where he could be a little rusty, in such an important game.

I'd imagine the story about a family matter is the Cubs' story to cover for Z. The truth is probably somewhere in the Jesse Rogers story.

FWIW, none of us actually heard what Rogers reported last night, so what he said today might actually be what he said last night and the poster who put it on that message board just got it slightly wrong.

Either way, the idea is that he missed it because he thinks he doesn't need it/doesn't want to miss two starts because of the dye. I'm guessing that the stuff about him not wanting to know what it is if something is wrong was speculation by Mully and Hanley, but I didn't hear it. Let's just keep our fingers crossed about the MRI results and hope they shut him down for 2-3 weeks.

Yeah, I agree with you.

Good luck Z ya big lug!

If there is nothing wrong with him get the MRI and miss 2 starts. I know Z wants to be out there and is an emotional, slightly irrational guy, but he should be smart enough to realize that rest is best for him and the team. If he's really a team guy and wants to be in the World Series, he would realize this.

Then again, this is the guy who walked into the shower room and punched a wall after being told he was going to go on the DL earlier this year.
