Apparently Lou has found the problem. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/06/piniella-may-bench-fukudome-and-soto.html Third base/cleanup isn't really the problem. The main concern is the bottom of the lineup and stopping baserunners. Why does Fukudome have to lose playing time while he still gets on base. From what I can see he has gotten on 15 out the last 17 games that he started not including today. Byrd on the other hand, who he could also be given the time off, who has only reached in 3 of his last 8 starts without today. I know that he looked good tonight, but just because he has a good game and kosuke has a bad one has lower statistical meaning than the previous games leading up to this one (even Aramis hit that one walk off). Also aside from today, hill had thrown out 22% while soto had thrown out 21%, so there is another big difference, which is worth using for Lou to throw someone under the bus for to cover the fact that he has been making incredible poor choices all season long. I'm all for letting Colvin get more playing time, but I just don't understand the justification. Really, with the outfield that we have and the way that they have all been hitting, we could do an even split rotation and the same thing could be done at 3b with the three options there. Once anyone can show that they want to be on this team, they can maybe win the job. It is just so frustrating that these players cannot do anything and meanwhile guys like Jose Bautista are hitting more home runs than our infield when they have never hit this many home runs in any season in their career before.
