  1. who is coming in to pitch? i'd almost assume heilman at this point.
  2. apparently the odds are higher when you get your hits with 2 outs.
  3. no, we can pretty much chalk it up solely to the pen. and another bonehead managerial move
  4. and lou for taking him out when he did.
  5. Dusty Baker. If you look at all of the pitchers who he may have damaged, he has to be up there.
  6. That is why you don't look at total wins, but rather at winning percentages against those divisions. The central has winning percentages over .500 against both the east and west. In fact the winning percentage against the west improved tonight while the central was 50/50 in the two games against the east.
  7. The teams in the central as of today are 8 over against the east and 5 over against the west. From a quick scan, there is no other division in baseball that is over .500 against both of the other two divisions. I could be wrong because I just did quick mental math, but that would say that relative to the rest of their own league, the NL Central is, as of right now as good (and competitive) as any division in baseball. I would still say that the AL East is better of course, but when compared to the rest of the AL and also when looking at the division top to bottom, that division has weaknesses of course. Of course, these numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt. Not a lot of games have been played by certain teams against certain divisions (Astros for example are 7-2 against the West, which is our difference maker), but it is what we have for this discussion. Total wins certainly is not a useful stat because the NL Central would then always be the best and the AL West the worst.
  8. At this point in the game it doesn't matter, but I am repeatedly surprised at how well some of the opposing teams lineup for our hitters up the middle. Maybe it is just seeing us always grounding out up the middle and not thinking of the ones that get through and then only seeing those balls that get through by the other team, but it seems to me that the defense is not lined up all that well for those hits in particular.
  9. "Steve Phillips will never get a chance to be a MLB GM again"
  10. and while fox is up it is as good of a time as any.
  11. haha, that was better than that 2-0 swing.
  12. Especially when you could be listening to Joe Buck. I wish that I could sync my radio to my tv.
  13. I'm in Texas, so I'm a little leery about Craigslist. If I could meet someone face to face with cash, then I wouldn't mind. I live in Winnipeg and I used Craigslist this year for the first time. It worked for me, but I was leery throughout the process.
  14. Marshall with a complete game victory, too.
  15. he is afraid that if he gets thrown out, trammel won't put patton in.
  16. among the smartest plays i've seen there by freel
  17. Win or lose, at least some runs are being put up on the board. Feels like there is some hope.
  18. only way that miles can reach is by striking out.
  19. Miles didnt steal anyhting, Hendry should be fired for giving it to him Embezzlement. i think that miles feels sort of like that couple from new zealand right now.
  20. When does Gerald Perry's name start being brought up as a guy to replace. Each of the 3 years under Lou's regime, the offense has gone MIA as a whole for stretches at a time. I know that he got them to start taking pitches for a while, but there have been times even when they have been winning when every run has been a struggle. In 2007, I know that at the end of the season each game was exciting, but a big part of that was because we were working terribly hard for each of the runs required. It seems that when our guys face pitchers who have and stick to a gameplan and refuse to walk batters, they can shut the offense down. Perry might not be the guy who can teach how to be effective against pitchers who are doing well. I don't know what to suggest for this success, but I'm also not saying that I should be the one to replace him. It is just that without a doubt, he is the weak link on this coaching staff.
  21. To get Hoff in the lineup, or what? i guess. according to Lou (via Len), Soriano to 2B, Hoff to LF. WOOT, a run! Thats a double whammy. Not only to you have a bad defensive second baseman, but you lose Sorianos arm in the outfield. If you're willing to sacrifice defense, just bring up Fox for 3rd. that makes far too much sense, though. i don't understand why fox isn't at least getting a couple of games in at 3rd down in iowa. they may be giving him some ground balls over there, but i haven't heard anything about it.
