  1. I really enjoy how with our cleanup hitter up, we are actually talking about passed balls and wild pitches as if they are the most likely way to get a guy in from 3rd.
  2. if you were willing to bunt, you might as well steal here, but we won't
  3. now starlin will probably be told to bunt in front of the offensively inept twins.
  4. Why not use Zambrano now in relief. What is the point of having him out in the pen?
  5. Doubtful. All the language coming from the organization indicates he's playing full time. This is all part of the learning curve. Yeah I think he isn't getting pulled soon. If this shaky defense continues for a week or so then maybe, but I am guessing they are willing to chalk this one up to nerves. I don't even know if he gets Hanley at 1B if he comes up with that last one cleanly, however it would have stopped him from getting to 2B. I hope that you're right, but I just don't have any faith in them to do the right thing. I hope that I'm wrong, but somehow expect to see Fontenot get the pinch hit opportunity to justify the start tomorrow.
  6. Well, that'll probably cost him his job. I doubt that we'll see Castro start for at least 2 or 3 days.
  7. After reading that, I 100% believe that the racist part of it is greatly exaggerated. The reason is the last line of that ESPN article. If you didn't boo me, I don't have a problem with you (and the implication in that quote is that if you booed me and you are not black, you are racist). Booing happens to all players. To me it sounds like the booing is what he is most upset with. There were probably a handful of occasions where he received hate mail, but that is to be expected when playing in any major market. Obviously with a fanbase like Oakland or Texas that is smaller, you will see less hate mail in general. I know that recently the players who have drawn the ire of the fans at Wrigley have happened to be black, but the favourite players have also been from minorities as well. I would also have to say that Kevin Gregg received his fair share of booing (I guess that Bradley would say that that is a result of a performance). I cannot say for sure that it isn't true, but I also question the going out for dinner story. I am not surprised that the person was bad mouthing both players, but as a professional athlete this again must be expected. Even Mantle, Mays, and Aaron had bad games that could be critiqued. The part about going back to the ghetto almost sounds like a throw in line. I know that I have made these kinds of foolish, off the cuff, exaggeration remarks when I am upset and losing an argument to make my side of the story sound stronger and clearly Milton Bradley is an angry person. Then is the matter of the child being called a derogatory name. They are kids, this is what happens. I don't know what the derogatory name was, but for all we know, the name was "jerk". And lets get serious here, who do you think the parents of the offending child are? Being in school at age 3 and the same one as Milton Bradley's daughter means that you have a fairly large income and are sending your child to a good school. I know that ingrates are everywhere, but I find this story absurd as well. I just can't believe how this idiot continues to come out with this garbage.
  8. really? I got through much earlier than I have since this got popular around 2004, and despite a couple can't complete high traffic situations, made the purchase and got through a couple more times to finish my shopping much earlier than expected. I agree. In the past you would be lucky to get in more than once in the first hour and that was a result of people going for those 3 or 4 ultra high demand games. Since those were eliminated in the presale, the rest of the tickets could be purchased today. Realistically, you could only maybe get through once for one of those few games in the past because the brokers were working overtime.
  9. Sox and opening day tickets will still net you a profit for resale, but this totally changes the secondary ebay market. One good thing about this, though is that if you are looking for pirates tickets in april or something like that, you won't have to compete with as many people on Friday. I was always annoyed when I wanted good tickets to those kinds of games and I have to sit in the VWR while other people are only going for opening day and sox tickets.
  10. I don't know if I'd call him a "future star", but Max Scherzer has shown flashes in the past.
  11. Even Grace should be considered ahead of Dawson for his number being retired. One key to having a number retired should be a strong connection to the team. Some could even argue that Maddux was borderline as he will mostly be remembered as a Brave. I also find it an insult to some of the other guys who had to wait and were much more deserving. Fergie had to wait more years and was not an automatic upon hall induction. Conspiracy theory: This may be due to a change in ownership, though. The Ricketts might want to get in an extra sellout promo day at the end of April or something.
  12. Is he the only Expo in? Gary Carter
  13. What I don't understand is, if we are willing to go with the status quo or a little less now that we made the trade today, why not go with Colvin in the OF. The likelihood of competing once Holliday signs is virtually zero, so why lock ourselves up with anyone at all now?
  14. Now the latest on MLBTR (most of what is on there is from Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun) says that all that the Mariners are giving up is Aumont. I don't know what to believe because if that is all that the Mariners had to give for Cliff Lee, as good as he may be, there would have been a lot of teams that would have given more than that. You would have figured that the Cubs could have given Cashner for argument sake.
  15. I'm just speculating here, but could it be the Yankees? They just got a CF in Granderson. This would leave Melky as a corner OF, but they may feel that his production there is not enough. Could they be thinking of moving him for Bradley? The Cubs get a CF and the Yankees get a corner OF to replace Damon. This is obviously unlikely, but could it would be surprise.
  16. I am about halfway through "Munson" and so far I am really enjoying it. It is written by the Yankees PR guy at the time and it is full of a lot of great stories. Crazy 08 was great. Clemente by Maraniss is fantastic (one of the greatest books that I have read regardless of subject).
  17. I'm not sure there's a single bit of good news in that summary. Not a Hudson fan? I kind of agree with the rest, just unsure of extensions with Lee and Lilly. Age-wise, it could be a mistake, but not sure what we could get to replace them either and until we see what they'd accept, I figure it's a moot point anyway...... Why don't we just move Ramirez to 1b, get a stop gap 3b and then Vitters should hopefully be ready to take over there.
  18. similar players through age 29 per BR: 6. Aaron Miles http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/i/iwamuak01.shtml
  19. I would definitely be interested. It sounds like a fun format.
  20. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=4581458 3 years, 2.42 million
  21. I so badly want the twins to win so that I can go to my first playoff game this weekend.
  22. I think that it would be hilarious for it to be Cardinals/Yankees. The whole story would be clean (pujols) vs. dirty (a-rod). What would be the topper would be if prior to game 7, pujols' name would leak as a doper and he would make a buckner like error. It wouldn't be quite as sweet as possible because he has already won a ring. That or another sweet moment would be brad lidge getting his revenge on pujols by striking him out looking to end the NLCS.
  23. I don't understand why Seattle would even want to trade Felix. They still have him under control for a couple more years and he is a starter that a team can be built around. They also appear to have something going as they move forward.
  24. I would imagine Z would take over in the outfield lol Marshall. He has the most experience.
  25. Wells is now 2 7+inning starts away for qualifying for ERA leaders. Right now he'd slot in at 9th in the NL and 14th in MLB (1st among rookies).
