As long as this is healthy Rich Harden, we win this deal hands down. We gave up two guys who were bench guys at best on this club, a 4th/5th starter and a C prospect for a #1/2 guy.

We didn't give up Pie, Hill, Ceda, Colvin, Veal, Cedeno, or Vitters. We held on to a lot of our better chips. We kept Marshall.

This is a good deal.

Agreed.

Comcast Sportsnet Chicago reports that the Cubs have acquired Rich Harden from the Athletics in a six-player deal.

The Cubs will reportedly also get Chad Guadin from the A's in exchange for RHP Sean Gallagher, outfielder Matt Murton, infielder Eric Patterson and catcher Josh Donaldson.

Great move Jimbo...talk about stealing the thunder of the Brew Crew...We essentially give up Gallegher for Harden because Murt and Patterson have no real future with the Cubs and who knows about Donaldson.

Great day to be a Cubs fan!

Yeah, I think this is a good deal for both teams. I'm sad to see Gallagher go, but there's a numbers game at play with Zambrano, Lilly, Dempster, Marquis, Marshall, and Hill. Swapping him for a shot that someone like Harden is healthy is a good gamble.

Part of me wonders if Jim didn't somehow know about the CC/Brewers deal, and let that come along, and then a couple days later drop the "We got Harden, cheaply!" bomb on them to show them that no matter how good they think they are - and deal they can make - the Cubs are still better and will make as good a deal or better to put Milwaukee back in their place.

I know, it doesn't work that way... but this is a big :P at the Beermaker fans who though the acquisition made them the best team in the MLB.

Holy crap what a deal. Still have pieces for another deal down the road, too. Oh my god, I'm beyond excited. PLEASE STAY HEALTHY. I DONT KNOW WHAT IM SAYING

My feelings on the deal are this.

Giving up Gallagher hurts. I liked him as a fan and a pitcher. But, you gave to give up something to get something. I don't think we'll miss Murton or Patterson. Donaldson is the type of player you expect to lose in these deals. Gallagher is the player that hurts. But getting Harden will be huge.

If Harden stays healthy, Zambrano, Harden, Lilly, and Dempster make a good looking playoff rotation.

I'll miss Gallagher and Murton. I never had much faith in Patterson and with Soto we're set at catcher for a long time. Fingers crossed that Harden stays healthy.

Good deal.

And it keeps some of our chips in case he does get hurt. We still have Hill, who could step in eventually and be good again, for instance.

From Oakland's point of view, I think we kind of hosed them.

Making this announcement before CC can even take the mound against the Rockies is beyond awesome.

Wow. This is amazing. If Harden stays healthy, even just for the remainder of this season, it's a bigtime steal for the Cubs.

Olney's right. We didn't match the CC/Brewers trade. We made a deal that was WAAAAAY better (assuming of course that Harden is, and remains, healthy).

This is true. The four guys we traded wouldn't have even been worth LaPorta.

I'm going to the Cubs/Brewers game on July 31st in Milwaukee. What does the pitching matchup project to?
