Harden & Gaudin for Gallagher, Murton, EPatt & Donaldson

currently Marquis is scheduled to pitch Friday, so I guess it's up to Lou whether he wants Marquis to face Zito (FRI) and Harden to face Cain (SAT) or vice versa

 

Seeing as though he's only making one start before the ASB regardless, makes more sense for him to be matched up against Cain IMO

Was on the Red Line home and my phone just blew up with texts. This is huge. I've wanted Harden all along. Getting Gaudin is a nice addition too. Seeing Gallagher go is going to be tough, but this is Rich Harden.

 

I know Gallagher has family on this board, so I hope they don't leave us just yet.

Billy Beane likes our farm system a lot more than I thought he would

 

i'm not surprised. murton can give you league-average offense at a cheap price in the corner outfield, and patterson is a major-league ready player who will give you good offense from 2B if you're willing to accept some defensive deficiencies. gallagher is a potential #3/4 guy who will eat a lot of innings at a cheap price. there aren't any real high-ceiling players here, but there are a bunch of guys who can give solid performances at low dollar figure - if you have enough of those, you can bring in a couple of big-dollar, big-production guys to supplement the lineup or rotation.

I'm freaking out right now. I flipped on ESPN before and saw it and I jumped out of my chair and screamed. Solid solid trade. I'll miss Gallagher and Murton. However, Gallagher is no mroe than a 3/4, Murton and E-Patt never had a place on the Cubs and Donaldson is raw and at least 3rd on the organizational depth chart (not including Hank White). Harden is great if healthy and Gaudin is a fairly decent reliever/spot starter. If Harden's healthy this is a GREAT trade for us.

Yeah, I can definitely see the value he would place in those guys. Maybe I'm more surprised that this deal was worked out with no real "high" ceiling players coming back to the A's (possibly Gallagher). From most of the speculation I read, I thought it would take at least someone like Hill or Pie to get the conversation started.

Hendry said this was not in response to Sabathia. I believe that to a point. But you can't tell me that Hendry didn't step up the talks after the CC trade.

 

 

I agree with that it wasn't a response in that Hendry has been targeting Harden for awhile. On the other hand, he might have stepped it up a bit.

 

I can't remember where, but I linked an article where a MLB source said the Cubs would react aggressively to any moves made in the NL Central. Well, hell yeah we responded!

Call me crazy, but getting Gauden in this deal was a GREAT move by jim.

 

As far as I'm concerned, we upgraded two spots in the rotation with this trade because Gauden is better than Marquis.

 

If Hill can come back this rotation is spectacular and deep.
