40% CANUCK

May as well embroider a maple leaf right in the middle of the "C"!!!

This is amazingly awesome.

I love Gaudin coming along too. Bullpen depth, a good, somewhat young pitcher. Awesome.

I do think we will miss Gallagher in the long run. I've never been as sold as some on him for the immediate season, but I think there's a good chance he has a very bright future.

The Cubs wasted little time in countering their National League Central rival Brewers‘ move of trading for C.C. Sabathia as they acquired right-hander Rich Harden from the Athletics along with right-hander Chad Gaudin in a trade for right-hander Sean Gallagher, outfielder Matt Murton, Class AAA Iowa second baseman/outfielder Eric Patterson and low Class A Peoria catcher Josh Donaldson..

pretty basic info; probably more analysis tomorrow.

Bold prediction: Christina Kahrl will hate the deal for both teams.

Awwww, kinda sad seeing Gallagher saying his goodbyes at Wrigley. I really like the kid and I hope he kicks some ass out west. Gotta be a bit of a justifiable ego boost to know he's basically what got the Cubs Harden.

The fact that the Brewers got Sabathia still scares me.

But it's a good scared. This is fun. This is an arms race (no pun intended) that leaves the rest of the league in the dust if done right.

I got so sick of seeing the National League teams scrap together the hope for 90-wins and assume it was enough, while the AL teams stockpiled talent. Now the Cubs and Brewers are doing the same thing, and it's exciting.

NBC Nightly News sometimes has a segment called "The Fleecing of America".

Pittsburgh (Ramirez/2003 deals) and Oakland (Harden/Guadin) fans are going to want Hendry featured in "The Fleecing of MLB"! :good:

why do you say that? she liked the sabathia deal on both sides.

This is the best trade Jim Hendry has ever made.

(I know this is speaking the obvious.)

I am on cloud 25 right now.

I don't know. It may rival aganist Aramis/Lofton deal...

What if AJ Burnett was added to the rotation as well? Man oh man.

Yes!! And we still have the parts to get it done.

Is there any indication at all that Hendry is still interested in acquiring another starter?

Pretty crazy how the game works, on a personal level. Yes, Rich Harden appears to be a very nice upgrade for this team and bolsters their chances for a historic World Series run, and the middle-of-the-day, hope-you-enjoyed-your-time-in-the-spotlight-Melvin timing. Its very exciting.

But don't forget how it could affect other aspects, too. Everyone here was extremely lucky to have a poster like Mr. Gallagher, and this community is (likely) losing a valuable and significant contributor eventually after everything settles down. I hope I am not assuming too much, but it happens. This was a situation that we, as fans, may have to wait years (used to it) to have such a similar opportunity to enjoy, so I want to thank you, Mr. Gallagher, for your generous sharing, and remind you of the class act son that you raised (who can count an army of Cubs fans along with the new A's followers who will be supporting and cheering on his career).

One day Sean is just living the life of a ball player, messing around with teammates eating bugs on bets to entertain. I am sure he was well-liked in the clubhouse, as were the other guys. I'm happy for Murton, he could thrive in this new situation, eventhough I'm admittedly uninformed of the Oakland outfield. I hope no spots are set in stone, he earns one and never looks back, then turns it into a respectable contract from someone when it comes up.

This is a trade that I truly hope both sides ends up being overly satisfied with.

She generally is mildly disapproving of the Cubs and Hendry, viewing them as having an idea of what they want to do but little idea how to do it.

Best day of my cub's life since the nomar trade!

which, in hindsight, really shouldn't have been a good day at all

Someone needs to make an MSpaint about this, NOW

How are we speaking? We may have gotten more talent in the Aramis Lofton deal, but turning Todd Hundley into Grudzielanek (I can still spell it!) and Karros was like turning water into wine.

I'm not a BP Subscriber, but everything I've ever read of Kahrl's transaction analysis has been derision towards both sides of each deal covered.

Shes about as condescending and elitest as they get.

Anybody remember the last number 40 to be traded to the Cubs Mid-season?

Yeah, let's hope it turns out just as well.
