Never thought I would get to this point with Jim Edmonds but it's got to be asked. Should we now begin supporting and cheering and treating Edmonds like all the other Cubs? Through today he is batting .297 with the Cubs and has 13 RBIs in 64 at-bats with us (thats a 102 pace in a 500 at-bat season). His bat seems to have turned around and now our CF spot doesn't seem as big of a hole as it was. When I hear his name I still start to get mad but with him now producing I think I will start treating him like all the other Cubs. Am I the only one going through this dilemma? I highly doubt it. Curious to see how many are willing to cheer and root for him now. Edited by CubbieBum

Unfortunately its forunate that yes it is time. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but hey, look at my nmae. The signing at the time ranked upthere with that STeve Trachsel signing last year. I've always hated Edmonds, but the guy has been real good so far this year. He's had some huge hits and some great catches. That said, I'd prefer if it were Pie or some other CF doing this as long as it didn't cost us prospects.

Shoulda been cheering him once he put on the Cubs uniform. Who gives a crap who he used to play for, there are numerous people on our team that played for other teams. Hell Derrek Lee played for the Marlins and helped beat us in the playoffs but hes loved. People need to get over it.

Maybe he isn't genuine, but he sure seems to be having fun with the Cubs. When he hit that game-tying homerun earlier in the week, he seemed pretty excited. I wouldn't be happy for him if he was hitting .179, but it is a little easier for me to like when when he looks like he is enjoying himself. Edited by Wilson A2000

Are we talking about excepting Edmonds, or accepting him ?

.... and who really knows the difference ?? Hell, even Roast thinks it's only a spelling mistake, eh?

I've accepted the guy. He seems like a good guy in general and I'm glad he's finally helping the team. He's a showboater so you're gonna hate him if he's on the other team any way you slice it. I'm not gonna be immature like that Cardinal fan on Youtube and hate the guy forever just because he used to be a Dirtbird.

Hes a Cub now. Its not like one day vs. the Cards hes going to intentionally drop a fly ball, and rip off his Cubs jersey reveling a Cards half shirt underneath. Ive been all about him since the rumors started.

if that happened though, that'd be pretty crazy.

i was open to the edmonds signing from the beginning, although i was hesitant because i didnt think he could hit anymore. he's proved me wrong thusfar and i'm glad. i'm definitely a fan and i knew i would be as long as he produced. and, like someone said, he seems like he's having fun. between the tying HR the other day, to the rockies game where he was on second when dero hit the game winning HR, to when he caught a game-ending fly ball awkwardly and looked at fukudome and started cracking up, to joining in on the hip-bump celebration at the end of games, he seems like he's having a great time here, and that makes me like him even more.

was it a little shocking when he signed? sure, but i find myself expecting edmonds to help the cubs win in some way every game. and most games, he has. i'm about my favorite team winning the world series, not immature beefs between local rivalries.

My attitude all along was, once he became a Cub, I was rooting for him to do well. I wasn't expecting him to, but I was rooting for him to.

Exactly. Fans holding grudges based solely on where the guy used to play is pretty sad. When a player comes to the Cubs, he's a Cub. Of course, many ignorant fans have no qualms about berating even career Cubs players, but that's another can of worms ...

I seriously doubt anyone would complain or refuse to accept Pujols if he became a Cub, and he's nearly as hated as Edmonds was.

I'm starting to warm to Jimmy. I'm also conscience that Kendall had a little hot streak after arriving last year, so while I hope Edmonds continues this production, I am a bit wary.

conscience, or conscious ?? Almost sounds Freudian, no?

I think a lot of Cubs fans (especially my friends) were upset about the signing and rooted for him to suck for two weeks and be cut. I think that philosophy was as prevalent as the fans that just accepted him from the get go. His first home game he was booed while taking the field. I was on the fence. I didn't care one way or the other. If he sucked then I could continue not liking him and the Cubs wouldn't be hurt too much. If he turned out to be good then he helped us win plus something I didn't think of is the getting to rub it in the Cards fans faces (can't wait till we play them and hope he has a big hit).

Edmonds has a .400 OBP and a 1.011 OPS for the month of June. He and DeRosa have been carrying us as everyone else on the roster is a cooling/off slumping a bit compared to May.

I like productive players. I didn't think Edmonds would be productive, so I hated the idea of adding him. He's been productive, therefore, he has earned my respect.
